A federal judge has overturned California´s three-decade-old ban on assault weapons, ruling that it violates the constitutional right to bear arms. Former Minneapolis police Officer Derek Chauvin filed a motion for a new trial Tuesday after he was convicted last month of murdering George Floyd. Chauvin’s attorney, Eric Nelson, is alleging pretrial publicity affected Chauvin's right to a fair trial. At least 13 people were killed and about a dozen others were taken to hospitals after a gravel truck slammed into an overloaded SUV just north of the U.S.-Mexico border, authorities said. The crash occurred about 6:15 a.m. PT at State Route 115 and Norrish Road in Imperial County, about 15 miles from the border, the highway patrol said. The semitruck full of gravel hit a maroon Ford Expedition filled with 25 passengers, the highway patrol said.
