<p>June 21, 2002 -- WASHINGTON - The White House yesterday hit the roof over leaks of ominous pre-Sept. 11 messages - and Congress asked the Justice Department to investigate the security breach.</p> <p>White House spokesman Ari Fleischer publicly complained about the leaks to the media of two messages intercepted Sept. 10 by the National Security Agency, while Vice President Dick Cheney called leaders of the congressional 9/11 probe to express his fear that national security could be put at risk.</p>

<p>WASHINGTON -- A Pentagon agency plans to push for accelerating development of a missile-defense shield based at sea, just one week after the U.S. pulled out of a treaty with Russia that banned such a system.</p> <p>The Pentagon's Missile Defense Agency said it hopes to deploy sea-based defensive missiles as early as 2004. Although the agency hadn't previously disclosed a timetable, a deployment two years from now would represent a faster pace than many experts had expected for putting in place defenses designed to intercept enemy missiles while they're hurtling through space.</p>
