SACRAMENTO -- Rep. Gary Condit, D-Ceres, continued raising and spending campaign money this spring at about his usual pace, despite the media and police frenzy over his romantic ties to a missing Washington, D.C., intern.    Campaign records released Tuesday night show that the Ceres Democrat raised $195,370 and spent $144,270 the first half of the year -- including a previously disclosed $10,000 to the Chandra Levy reward account immediately after she disappeared in early May.    The records show Condit also incurred $206 in bills for in-flight telephone calls May 30. He also spent $2,373 for a news clipping service ...

Remember When? The present times have their marvels and wonders - computers, the internet, medicine, and so forth - but it seems to me that the late 50's were some of the happiest times in America.  This may be a prejudice due to age - but perhaps it is one that others share.  So I thought I would create a thread where we could discuss some of our favorite memories.  Here are some of mine - Christmas decorations on main street.  Beautiful, lavish, foil and light creations as visible during the day as at night.        Shortly before Chandra Levy went to Washington, D.C., to begin her U.S. Bureau of Prisons internship in October, her mother offered a few words of advice.    "I said to Chandra, 'Don't you become a Monica Lewinsky,'" Susan Levy said Tuesday, standing outside her north Modesto home.    "It's become much, much worse," said her husband, Dr. Robert Levy.    Lewinsky, the White House intern who had an affair with then-President Clinton, can be found today hawking a book and a line of purses.    Authorities cannot find Levy at all.    For three months, they have searched for the 24-year-old Modesto woman. And ...

Police investigating the disappearance of Chandra Levy said they will search a parking lot at a Virginia military base 130 miles away after receiving an anonymous tip that a body may be buried there.Police cautioned that the request for a search at Fort Lee, Va., was routine and that the tip, which came from a California Web crime tip site, www.wetip.com, was just one of hundreds of leads being pursued in the 3-month-old disappearance. The FBI and local police in the Fort Lee area planned to conduct the search for Washington police, possibly using cadaver dogs like the ones police ...

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The House rejected an attempt Wednesday by California lawmakers to require that the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission impose more stringent price controls on electricity sold in the West. The proposal, offered by Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Calif., would have directed that FERC, which regulates wholesale power sales, to require that electricity prices be pegged to the cost of producing the power plus a just and reasonable profit. An attempt to put the requirement into a broad energy bill failed by a 274-154. Opponents said that the FERC already has taken steps to steady the volatile Western electricity ...

The FBI and police on Wednesday examined an anonymous tip to an Internet site alleging Chandra Levy's body was buried under a parking lot near a Virginia military base 130 miles away. Plans for a search were put on hold. Police who have investigated Levy's disappearance in Washington asked authorities at Fort Lee near Richmond, Va., to search the site, but the FBI announced late Wednesday there were no plans for such a search "at this time." "If the tip is deemed credible, appropriate investigative steps will be taken," the FBI office in Richmond said in a statement. Learn ...

July 31 Neal Knox Update -- Last winter the Allegheny County Sportsmens League, a powerful grass roots group in the Pittsburgh area, sued Pennsylvania State Police and Gov. Tom Ridge for maintaining an illegal firearms registry. Now the FBI has jumped into that fight -- probably unknowingly -- on the side of ACSL. FBI auditors charged with verifying that Point of Contact States like Pennsylvania are properly conducting Federal Brady Act background checks, have found that the Pennsylvania Instant Check System (PICS) is violating both Federal and Pennsylvania laws. On June 15, Ralph Calvin Sieg, Acting Chief of the ...

: 59 Percent Approve of Bush by WILL LESTER Associated Press Writer WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Bush's standing in public opinion has been boosted by broad approval of his work on education and Americans' high regard for his personal qualities like character, honesty and vision, says a new poll released Wednesday. The ABC News-Washington Post poll suggested six in 10 Americans, 59 percent, currently approve of the job done by Bush. Slightly more said they like Bush personally. Bush's job approval had dipped to the low 50s in several polls in early summer and was in the mid-50s in ABC ...

Dear Mrs. Bush: I am writing you in the wee hours of the morning, unable to sleep for worrying about the Klamath Basin crisis . I have been awake for hours, and this is not the first time I have lain awake trying to fathom why my government has turned against its own in this region along the Oregon and California borders. I hardly know where to start; so much damage has been done. I pray you will take the time to read my letter. To begin, it appears yet another George Bush has reneged on a campaign promise ...

Are the environmental policies of G.W. Bush foolish? Reckless? Or positively sinful? All three, with an emphasis on "sinful," according to religious environmentalists, devotees of something called "eco-faith." An Associated Press story, following one in the Los Angeles Times, hails the view of certain "religious scholars" that failing to conserve natural resources is no less than an offense against God. That's the case whether you are drilling for oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, withdrawing from the Kyoto climate-change treaty, or just gassing up your SUV. Organizations from the National Council of Churches to the Coalition on the Environment ...

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The FBI said late Wednesday it has no immediate plans to search the grounds of a military installation in Virginia for the body of Chandra Levy, the 24-year-old woman who vanished without a trace three months ago. The agency said it is investigating the credibility of an anonymous tip that Levy was buried in a parking lot under construction at Fort Lee, near Petersburg, Virginia, and then covered in concrete. "At this time, the FBI is attempting to determine the validity of that tip. If the tip is deemed credible, appropriate investigative steps will be taken. At ...

Unfortunately the TV was on in the background and tuned to the Fox News channel at the time the O’reilly Factor was on. Bill O’reilly and Dick Morris were supporting the drug testing of high school students, with parental permission of course. O’idiot kept harping on a survey saying 71% of parents support this. Morris went on to suggest that Bush implement tax incentives for employers who drug test employees. Great, now they want your kid's pee, with your permission of course. And now they want to give financial incentives for employers to invade their employee’s privacy. What if you ...
