“The Pope is the Antichrist,” is what the billboard owned by Outdoor Media Dimensions says. Paid for by Larry Weathers, a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Remnant Ministries (a splinter group of the Seventh Day Adventists), the anti-Catholic ad is posted on Interstate 5 near Medford, Oregon, in the southern part of the state. Many such ads have appeared since 1993 in that part of Oregon. Local Catholics have protested the latest attack and so have many non-Catholics. For the past week, Catholic League policy staff members have been calling Outdoor Media Dimensions for the purpose of placing a ...

"She just wanted to come,'' said John Hendrickson, Whitney's husband. "We are very fortunate to have ...

Long may Prince Philip continue to speak his mind By Tom Utley ANDREW ADAMS, 13, cuts an unlikely figure as a hero. A photograph of him widely published last week shows an overweight child with a hideous Mohican haircut, staring belligerently at the camera with his hands on his hips. He is dressed expensively, but unattractively, in a Manchester United football shirt (£39.99), shorts by Le Coq Sportif, Nike trainers (£69.99) and socks decorated with cartoon characters. An unkind observer, studying the boy's appearance and reading his thoughts in the text accompanying his photograph, might conclude that Andrew presents ...

CANBERRA, Australia (AP) -- The head of U.S. forces in the Asia-Pacific region reassured Beijing that proposed regional security talks involving the United States, Australia and Japan were not aimed at hemming in China. Secretary of State Colin Powell and Australian Foreign Minister Alexander Downer announced Monday that the two countries along with Japan had discussed holding regular informal security talks which could include South Korea. The Chinese People's Daily newspaper, seen as the official voice of the government, described the proposal as another Washington-inspired dialogue directed at containment of China. Adm. Denis Blair, however, rejected Beijing's interpretation. ''It certainly ...

Mubarak says talk of Arab summit "illogical" Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak said Wednesday it was "illogical" to talk about holding an Arab summit "every time something happens," after talks with Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat, who is pressing for such a summit, the state MENA news agency reported. "It is illogical to consider a summit every time something happens", said Mubarak, who added: "What use would a summit be now?" "Holding mini-summits or maxi-summits is not the question", he said, adding that "contacts can yield results, whether they are held between the Palestinians and Israel only, or with the United States ...

About 1 in 5 teenage girls report being physically or sexually hurt by a dating partner, researchers reported Tuesday in what is billed as the most representative study of dating violence so far. The study also found that girls who have been victims of violence are more likely to exhibit eating disorders, substance abuse, risky sexual behavior--including first intercourse before age 15 and multiple partners--pregnancy and a risk of suicide up to nine times normal. We found that dating violence among adolescent girls is far more prevalent than most people think," said lead researcher Dr. Jay Silverman of the Harvard ...

It's time to fight back against terrorism. In December 1999, the Clinton administration issued a worldwide terrorist alert to Americans overseas advising them to avoid crowded millennial celebrations. Bomb-toting Islamic militants under the banner of the Saudi terrorist Usama bin Laden had declared war, so Americans were to stay discreetly indoors while other Westerners partied. In Israel and Jordan, American Christians were strongly advised to avoid any public manifestation of their faith. Vexed by the growing number, geographical range, and fearfulness of Washington's warnings, one senior Foreign Service officer declared the millennial alarm "the chicken-little PR finale of America's ...

Russia's Going Communist Again John L. PerryWednesday, Aug. 1, 2001 Few outside Russia pay attention to who's getting elected in the boonies. They'd better wake up. At the grass roots, Russia is going communist again. In two key regions of the Russian Federation, communist candidates were elected to the governorships Sunday. No fluke elections, they are of enormous importance, politically and geographically, for these reasons: • They tipped the scales. Only 10 years after the collapse of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, 45 of the 89 regions of the Russian federation are now in the hands of Communist Party ...

© 2001 WorldNetDaily.com Amid the violence of the Palestinian intifida, the Israeli government has said it will restrain itself. But in reality, it is poised for a major military strike that would seize portions of the territories and destroy the Palestinian leadership. Israel is exhausting its last options before going to war. In recent weeks, efforts to revive the Israeli-Palestinian peace process have resumed. The Bush administration has begun to back the notion of deploying international monitors to the West Bank and Gaza. And Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon said last week that he will stick to the U.S.-brokered cease-fire. But signs ...

MEGAN'S LAW AND THE JUSTICE SYSTEMBy: Steve EdwardsMegan's Law is once again in the news, as questions about its fairness and validity have inspired some renewed debate on this nationally-adopted statute. Naturally, most of those who favor the law do so with well-meaning concern for the safety of children everywhere, while others believe that it is a textbook example of an unsolved, underlying problem leading to the creation of an ineffective and unconstitutional law. The events that influenced a public demand for a way to monitor paroled child predators and provide this information to anxious parents are well known. The ...

Note from Bill: Shortly after reading the WorldNetDaily/DEBKAfile article last Thursday regarding the alleged movement of Iraqi troops into Jordan, Jim Bramlett confirmed for us through a high-level contact in Jordan, that this was in fact true. He was told that Iraq had moved in a first wave of troops, followed by another larger wave of troops. This evening I received the following information from Barbara Richmond (For Your Glory) pertaining to the Iraqi troop movement inside of Jordan. "On condition of anonymity, a Jordanian government official confirmed the presence of a limited number of Iraqi troops on Jordanian territory ...

Seven questions for Colin Powell What has the Bush administration got against Israel? At every turn, regardless of what Israel has done to defend itself against intensifying Palestinian terrorism, Secretary of State Colin Powell, or one of his underlings, has been quick to launch a verbal broadside against the Jewish state. Whether it is the use of economic sanctions against the Palestinian Authority, the pinpoint targeting of wanted terrorists planning attacks, or even the demolition of buildings used to carry out armed assaults against soldiers and civilians, Israel, it seems, can do nothing right in Powell's eyes. Indeed, hardly a ...

(CNSNews.com) - "It is true that I was awake when the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act [of 1996] (HIPAA) passed, and the case is actually worse than that-I voted for it," confessed House Majority Leader Dick Armey (R-Tex.), speaking at a Cato Institute conference on Tuesday. "It started out as a modest little bill claiming to make coverage portable from job to job," said Armey. But "it grew to become a whole package of reforms, most of them having nothing to do with portability." Instead, said Armey, the law "set a dangerous precedent for the federal regulation of health ...

A trial began Tuesday to decide whether KPRC-TV (Channel 2) fired a cameraman because he allegedly refused to go along with a reporter's plan to use fake passes to obtain an interview with then-presidential candidate George W. Bush. Channel 2 broke the law by firing Leo Chavarria for refusing to commit an illegal act, said his attorney, Donald Wilhelm. But Channel 2's lawyers said Chavarria was fired because he had a long-standing poor work record and had falsified a time sheet. Chavarria worked as a cameraman for reporter Brendan Keefe while covering Super Tuesday primary results in Austin on March ...

DAMASCUS, Syria - Syria may look to strengthen its army in the face of spiraling Mideast violence, President Bashar Assad said today. Assad said the Mideast region was in "a critical stage which requires full alertness and preparedness." Care must be taken with the "nation's fortress and shield," the president told troops during the annual Syrian Army Day celebrations. "It's not our nature to accept the lesser when we can achieve the more, higher and superior," he said. Ten months of Israeli-Palestinian violence has left almost 700 people dead, seen the collapse of cease-fire deals and enraged Arabs throughout the ...
