U.N. Human Rights Commissioner Mary Robinson yesterday warned Arab countries not to turn next month's World Conference Against Racism into an anti-West, anti-Israel hate-fest. That can mean only one thing: She's scared. Scared that the whole affair will be laughed off as one big charade. Which is what it's fixing to be. If so, Washington would do well to boycott the event. Specifically, Arab countries want to revive the old canard that equates Zionism with racism. The United Nations adopted that sick notion in 1975 (a move that former Canadian Ambassador David Malone rightly said did more damage to the ...

Richard J. Egan is President Bush's nominee to be ambassador to Ireland. In his official biography, Mr. Egan cites his "serving in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean conflict." That turns out to be a gross distortion. The truth, as reported in a news story based on Mr. Egan's military records, is that he entered the Marine Reserves three weeks before the 1953 truce in Korea and never went abroad. Moreover, he was court-martialed and sentenced to confinement for being absent without leave for three months after he went on active duty. An aide to Mr. Egan, a Massachusetts ...

The kids' aunt is waging an uphill battle to adopt ...

Tuesday, July 31, 2001 ChandraMonica don't represent my religion By Debbie Schlussel © 2001 WorldNetDaily.com I hope they find Chandra Levy, soon – for more than the obvious humanitarian reasons. I want her and her parents off my TV screen. I want them to stop soiling my religion – a religion they know nothing about, don't follow and are connected with solely by accident of birth. I'm very proud to be a Jewish American. And I'm sick of the Levys shamelessly dragging my religion through the mud, in their star-struck, new-age attempt to find their daughter. When I first heard the ...

How much would you pay to do away with spam--the unwanted messages that clog your e-mail box? Would you be willing to pay a penny for every e-mail you send? That's about what I think it would cost to do away with this menace to personal and business communication, but as with any plan there are drawbacks--including what a sender fee might do to AnchorDesk itself. I am thinking about this because CNET contributor Matt Lake last week wrote a great story on how to avoid getting onto spammers' lists. He was on the radio show last Friday talking ...

China announced in July that it will experiment with reforming its social security system. Under a trial program in one Chinese province, millions of workers will be able to invest a portion of their retirement funds in China’s stock markets, the ...

"Legally Blonde" is also, in its way, a sign of the times, celebrating a new kind of girl power, ...

PUNDITRYBirds of a Featherby Peter Beinart Only at TNR Online| Post date 07.30.01 In last week's column, I suggested that The Weekly Standard was trying to have it both ways: that you can't hate President Bush's meager defense budget and love his huge tax cut, because the latter basically caused the former. The problem is that a conservative magazine which opposes a big tax cut is like a liberal magazine that opposes abortion: it's an oxymoron. Tax-cutting isn't a feature of the contemporary conservative movement; it's its raison d'être. And so I argued that if the Standard really ...

In an interview, Rumsfeld tells me of the challenge he faces after "the procurement holiday" taken by the Clinton administration. He indicts the previous administration for its inattention to defense: "The average age of aircraft has gone up about 10 years. We're getting ...

I have here your semihysterical e-mail of the 24th instant, and I can't recall ever receiving a more wrongheaded lament from any of my numerous apprentice devils, second class, up there in the field. Consider the symptoms. Having just won the Olympics for 2008, China raises the distinct possibility that the athletes and spectators won't be safe when they arrive in Beijing. China wants to put a benign face on its repressive system. Just as the cheers, banners, and excitement over winning the Olympics subsides, the Chinese government puts Gao Zhan on trial. Gao Zhan, ...

With its vote Wednesday to lift restrictions on American citizens traveling to Cuba, one can safely reckon that El Jefe is no longer faint with Caribbean heat and island ennui. There's nothing like hate to get a tired dictator back on his feet. The vote came as an amendment to the 2002 spending bill for the Treasury Department, White House and ...

So, as I am an absent-minded dope, I cannot imagine a more horrifying mistake than the one made by Brian Palmer Gilbert. He absent-mindedly left his 5-month-old son Kyle in his car for two hours while he was visiting his in-laws, and the boy died. "The father forgot," San Jose Police Sgt. Armando Realyvasquez told the San ...

WASHINGTON – Back on June 21, less than two months after Chandra Levy disappeared, I called for Rep. Gary Condit, D-Calif., to resign from Congress. Many people thought that call was premature. It may well have been the first public call for him to quit. Now, five members of Congress have come to the same conclusion, including at least one prominent Democrat, Rep. Charles Stenholm of Texas. And there's good reason for that – Condit continues to stonewall. He continues to act like Bill Clinton. He continues to hide behind the skirts of his high-priced legal talent. And, most ...

Mayor Giuliani yesterday snubbed Harlem's massive welcome party for Bill Clinton, saying he had better things to do - like attend a press conference in Queens. Even Giuliani's invited stand-in, Deputy Mayor Rudy Washington, was a no-show at the gala attended by thousands celebrating the ex-president's opening of his new office on West 125th Street. Washington's seat near the rostrum remained empty as former Mayor David Dinkins' mention of "the current mayor" during a speech drew harsh boos from the crowd of 2,000. Organizers had hoped Giuliani would speak at the politics-powered event, but said it was a mistake that ...

Editor's note: Kathleen Willey came to prominence in 1997 as part of the Paula Jones' sexual harassment lawsuit against President Bill Clinton after being subpoenaed to testify in the case. Courted by the White House to remain silent, Willey reluctantly testified about the sexual assault she suffered at the hands of the president – unleashing the brutal and unrelenting Clinton spin machine, determined to ruin her at any and all costs. SANTA MONICA, Calif. - Funny lady Paula Poundstone appeared in court for a hearing on child sex-abuse charges yesterday - and was greeted by supporters who offered up their kids for hugs. More than a dozen pals and fans of the popular stand-up comic sent up a cheer as Poundstone strode toward the Los Angeles County courthouse in the glare of television cameras. The 41-year-old comedienne cooed over one infant boy and hugged the daughter of a neighbor in her first public appearance since revealing she's in alcohol rehabilitation. The comic - who has three adopted kids and two foster ...

Institutional Racism at the Washington PostFrontPageMagazine.com | July 31, 2001 COURTLAND MILLOY'S COLUMN in Monday's paper titled "Colin Powell: Bush Man or Black Man” is a good example of the institutional racism at the Washington Post. This is the second racist column in a month written by a black staffer. Make Comments View Comments Printable Article Email Article It suggests that Secretary of State Colin Powell is somehow not "black," since he has failed to support the UN World Conference Against Racism (WCAR) with sufficient enthusiasm. What is wrong with the UN conference, which proposes to focus on Zionism ...

WASHINGTON - First Lady Laura Bush fueled speculation her husband will approve federal funding for stem-cell research yesterday when she cited the "life that could be saved by research." "A lot of those embryos will be destroyed anyway or disposed of anyway," Mrs. Bush said. "There's certainly a life side of it . . . when you think about life that could be saved by research." But Mrs. Bush also told CNN she's "not really sure where [the president] is right now on it." Advocates, such as former First Lady Nancy Reagan, who has personally appealed to the president, say ...

Link is above. I just can't figure this out. This gentlemen, when told by a customer that the customer's daughter is seeing an older man, possibly a congressman, decides to invent a story about his own daughter being once in the same situation. Not just with any older man, but also a congressman (it seems to me he named Condit), and provides specific details. Why would he, as a minister, do such a thing?
