NEW YORK (AP) — Wall Street ticked to more records Monday after bouncing back from losses taken because of worries about the worsening feud between the White House and the Federal Reserve, one that experts warn could lead to higher inflation in the future. The S&P 500 tacked 0.2% onto its prior all-time high set on Friday. The Dow Jones Industrial Average recovered an early loss of nearly 500 points and added 86, or 0.2%, to its own record, while the Nasdaq composite gained 0.3%. Some nervousness was still evident in the market, though, amid concern that the Fed may...

NEW YORK (AP) — New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and his wife Rama Duwaji began moving into the official mayoral residence on Monday, leaving behind their leaky, one-bedroom apartment in Queens for a fully staffed mansion in Manhattan. For Mamdani, the historic house stands in particularly sharp contrast to his previous living quarters: a $2,300 per month one bedroom apartment that lacked a washer and dryer, and was prone to flooding from a busted pipe. The couple’s new digs, meanwhile, boast 11,000 square feet (1,021 square meters) of space, a private chef, ornate ballroom and a veranda overlooking the...

SEOUL, Jan 12 (Reuters) - South Korean authorities have launched an investigation focused on the possibility civilians may have flown drones that North Korea said violated its airspace, the Defence Ministry said on Monday. President Lee Jae Myung has vowed a swift probe and said on Saturday if civilians had indeed operated the unmanned aircraft, it would be a "serious crime" that threatened South Korea's security and peace on the Korean peninsula. South Korea is willing to jointly conduct the investigation with North Korea but has not made the proposal, a defence ministry spokesperson said citing Minister Ahn Gyu-back. North...

The advisory came Monday as Iran entered its third week of anti-government demonstrations, with hundreds killed and thousands detained, according to rights groups and news reports.”

The Trump administration has taken action in response to Minnesota's decade-long social services fraud scandal, which could cost taxpayers $9 billion. The U.S. Agriculture Department announced a freeze on $129 million in food stamp funding for Minnesota. This move is part of the administration's broader effort to address welfare fraud in Democratic states. The Government Accountability Office estimates that the federal government loses up to $521 billion annually to fraud. Last week, Vice President J.D. Vance announced a Justice Department task force to investigate fraud nationwide. "Those programs should go to American citizens, not be defrauded by Somali immigrants and...

Frank Baker started in major league baseball as one of those raw country lads so endearing to sports writers of his era, and retired a gentleman farmer. Born on a farm just south of Trappe, Maryland, which had been in the family since before the Revolution, he began to play baseball with his brother Norman and the other children of the area before starring for the Trappe High School team. Until then, few saw him as anything more than another farmer’s son.

[Catholic Caucus] Cardinal Tasked with Promoting and Protecting Catholic Faith tells Hierarchy to Stop Obsessing over Doctrine and NormsI think the first consistory of 2026 has already been thoroughly denounced for what it was—a clown show—and that not much more needs to be said about it.However, as part of yet another episode of You Can’t Make this Crap Up, I would like to highlight some lesser-reported comments by Cardinal Víctor Manuel Fernández, aka “Cardinal Soft Porn,” which seem to have slipped through the media cracks. Keep in mind that this man leads the very serious Vatican body (Dicastery for the...

John Densmore and Robby Krieger – the two surviving members of the Doors – have appeared in a new music video with Playing for Change, the nonprofit project that brings together artists from all different countries and genres of music. This time, the chosen song was the Doors' "Riders on the Storm." In addition to Densmore and Krieger, other musicians included Lukas Nelson and Micah Nelson — sons of Willie Nelson — Don Was, Foo Fighters' Rami Jaffee, the Lakota Drum Group and many others. "Vocally, Lukas Nelson filled Jim Morrison's leather pants quite well!" Densmore said in a statement...

As the details of Minnesota’s widescale social services fraud blew up on social media over the Christmas holidays, it was hard to miss the contrast between the reaction of Republicans and Democrats. While Republicans were outraged, Democrats minimized and denied the very existence of the problem. With each new revelation of systemic fraud against the American taxpayer, we’re seeing a common denominator. Fraud protections have been deliberately bypassed in the pursuit of progressive political goals. Whether by incompetence or design, Democratic policies have turned the federal treasury into a piggy bank for fraudsters. American taxpayers have always been a fat...

It’s always great TV when the business journos over at CNBC take a wrecking ball to the media’s never-ending croaking against the Trump administration for an affordability issue they pretended wasn’t such a big deal under its predecessor. CNBC co-anchor Joe Kernen didn’t mince any words during the January 10 edition of Squawk Box. “[T]he affordability issue is from the 22% increase in prices and inflation under Biden. There's just — full stop. right there. That's the affordability issue. And you ought to be able to explain that,” Kernen rebuked. Gas prices alone had also spiked at least 31 percent...

A Bronx apartment building Mayor Mamdani showcased to highlight the talents of his new housing commissioner, Dina Levy, has racked up nearly 200 unresolved violations, The Post has learned. The 102-unit building at 1520 Sedgwick Ave. in Morris Heights as of Saturday had a staggering 194 open housing-code violations dating back to 2016 — including 88 “Class C” violations considered “immediately hazardous.” They included rat and roach infestation; broken doors and refrigerators; and mold, records show. Mamdani visited the affordable-housing complex best known for being the birthplace of hip-hop on Jan. 4 to introduce Levy, 54, a longtime tenants’ rights...

Democratic Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly filed a lawsuit against Secretary of War Pete Hegseth on Monday — challenging Hegseth’s move to demote Kelly’s military rank after the senator told service members to defy the Trump administration’s “illegal orders.”Kelly’s lawsuit, which was docketed in Washington D.C., claims Hegseth’s efforts to demote his rank following his November 2025 appearance in a viral video violates the Constitution’s speech or debate clause. Kelly argued in a statement announcing the suit the executive branch has never before sought to impose military sanctions on a U.S. lawmaker over saying “something that the President or Secretary of...

Why is my doctor worried about my mortgage payments? So I found myself wondering as I filled out a questionnaire before a recent primary-care visit. Along with the usual prompts about my health, I encountered a series of questions related to my financial situation. The form asked whether in the last 12 months I was unable to pay my mortgage or rent on time, and if I was “worried that my food would run out before I got the money to buy more.” These questions weren’t an attempt to gauge whether I would pay my medical bill; they were part...

Decisional regeneration, sometimes referred to as decision theology, is the belief that a person must make a decision for Christ, consciously accepting Him as Savior, in order to be saved. According to decision theology, the new birth occurs when someone 1) hears the gospel, 2) is convicted of the truth of the gospel, 3) understands the need for salvation, and 4) chooses to accept Christ rather than reject Him. Often, the decision to accept Christ is marked by an action such as walking an aisle, praying a "sinner’s prayer," signing a decision card, or similar activity. Detractors of decision theology...

Except for his early SNL career and the first Vacation movie, I've always considered Chevy Chase to be a poor actor and not particularly funny. And he has a reputation as a jerk. They didn't let him do a skit or appear on stage at the SNL 50 year anniversary show. Apparently a lot of people don't like Chevy Chase and he's difficult to work with. A clip from the CNN "I'm Chevy Chase and You're Not" special made him look like he was nasty to the female interviewer, telling her she's not intelligent enough to understand him. Having watched...
