Was Chevy Chase Canceled By The Left?
Vanity re CNN Chevy Chase Documentary

Posted on 01/12/2026 2:45:26 PM PST by Williams

Except for his early SNL career and the first Vacation movie, I've always considered Chevy Chase to be a poor actor and not particularly funny.

And he has a reputation as a jerk. They didn't let him do a skit or appear on stage at the SNL 50 year anniversary show. Apparently a lot of people don't like Chevy Chase and he's difficult to work with.

A clip from the CNN "I'm Chevy Chase and You're Not" special made him look like he was nasty to the female interviewer, telling her she's not intelligent enough to understand him.

Having watched the show, it seemed to me he has been ostracized by the woke entertainment industry due to two complaints from fellow actors. One gay, the other a black woman.

Chevy Chase is known for irreverent humor. He was in a show with a gay guy and made a private joke to him they should do a segment on AIDS where the gay is dying and they weigh him each week. The gay guy claims (and Chase says he's lying) That Chevy came to his trailer crying and begging for forgiveness after this incident.

The other case was a typical liberal blacklisting for using the N word but not in a derogatory manner. Chevy was upset they were having his show character make too many obnoxious statements and he complained "Next they'll have my character call the black cast members (the N word)".

This resulted in a black female demanding that he apologize. He said "for what? " He pointed out that on SNL he and Garrett Morris would call each other the N word all the time. Chase was fired from the show over this.

Pretty sure this nonsense is why they wouldn't let him on the stage for the SNL anniversary show.

He's a crotchetty old man at this point, suffered heart failure and has memory loss. I don't think he's a good actor anymore. Don't know his politics.

I ended up sympathizing with him and feeling he's been canceled by the jerks in Hollywood and New York.

They didn't say it directly but it was strongly implied.

Yes, if he had made fun Pres Ford tripping once, ok, but he did it over and over and over on many shows. It got ridiculous —showing my age, I know.

Sad, since Gerald Ford was a standout college football player at the University of Michigan, playing on two national championship teams (1932, 1933) and being named the team's MVP in 1934, earning him recognition that includes being named to the Sports Illustrated Silver Anniversary All-America roster and having his jersey (#48) retired by Michigan.

It was an election year.

When he left SNL, he changed instantly. All he did to be funny is act silly and make funny faces. And everyone says he was a nightmare to work with. He did a few movies with Goldie Hawn, and even she says she never really liked him. I liked the first Vacation movie he did, but none of the others were very enjoyable to me.

Being a jerk is enough. I wouldn’t read anymore into it. His late night talk show scored something like zero.

I have told my Gerald Ford story before...but here it is if you have not heard it.

In my college days I went on a trip with Young Republicans to Washington DC. The agenda was amazing—we met with an number of prominent individuals in one hour (or longer) meetings one at a time—I remember Attorney General Kleindienst, Elliott Richardson, John Volpe, Senator Brooke and then House Minority Leader Gerald Ford as well as others.

Every person we met was impressive—easily handled any question we could throw at them—all without notes btw—all without any aides helping them in any way...

Except—Gerald Ford.

He made some remarks that were boring cliches—and was totally stumped by every question we asked.

It was sad.

Needless to say I was stunned when he became Vice President and then President.

Ford was just not a serious person—sorry to deliver the bad news.

There was a you tube video on him on the Carson show. He was “joking” about taking over The Tonight Show. Johnny didn’t seem pleased. The clip noted that Johnny never had him on his show again and never offered advice or help on Chevy’s start up talk show. Chevy seemed to be a big lib.

Vacation 1 was the best of later comedy films, but some was funnier to others. Being a car guy, the NY City scene was dead-pan funny.

I got a sore gut from laughing so much.

“Well, we’re here!”

“How do you like your hamburger helper?”

I never stayed up for SNL, though...

Chevy Chase is an asshole.

The only nice thing I can say is that it’s nothing personal. He’s just a jerk to everyone.
