  • Too Bad Javier Milei Isn't Running for New York Mayor

I admit my headline is clickbait and based on a dream that could never happen. Javier Milei is the president of Argentina, not an American. Further, Zohran Mamdani appears to have a lock on the New York City mayoral election, if only because Republican Curtis Sliwa will not drop out. That his real competition is the tarnished Andrew Cuomo doesn’t help either. Neither of these men has anything close to President Milei’s charisma, let alone his originality. Neither, for that matter, does Mamdani, whose “democratic socialism” is just the same old, same old in new clothes. Nevertheless, the victory a...

The Microsoft co-founder recently penned a letter arguing that increasing global prosperity is the best way forward on the issue.Next month, government officials, policymakers, and activists will flock to Belém, Brazil, for the United Nations' annual climate change summit. In the past, these conferences have focused on wealth distribution schemes and transitioning from fossil fuels. At this year's conference, Bill Gates is advocating for a different strategy: shifting the primary focus away from climate change altogether. On Monday, the Microsoft co-founder penned a letter on his blog, Gates Notes, that argued for adopting "a different view and adjust[ing] our strategies...

Oct. 28 (UPI) -- A message in a bottle found during a beach clean-up in Australia turned out to contain letters from two World War I soldiers who launched their bottle 109 years earlier. Debra Brown said she and her family were cleaning up along the shoreline in Wharton Beach when her daughter found a bottle containing letters from Malcolm Alexander Neville and William Kirk Harley, soldiers serving in World War I in 1916. Neville's letter showed he came from Wilkawatt, South Australia, and Brown was able to use Facebook to contact Herbie Neville, the soldier's great nephew. The elder...

Democrats on Tuesday voted for the 13th time to keep the federal government shut — as Senate Majority Leader John Thune told The Post there was an easy fix to ensure millions of Americans won’t lose access to SNAP food payments. “The simplest way to end it and the simplest way to make sure that people are getting the food assistance they need is to pick up the bill and give us five votes,” Thune said in an exclusive interview as the Senate failed to reopen the government in a 54-45 vote. “And we’ll, we’ll send it to the president....

No longer content with issuing commercial licenses to unqualified illegal immigrants who don't speak English, Newsom reportedly decided to escalate matters by issuing licenses to the female population as well. "What do you want to do, gatekeep driving?" Newsom asked during a press conference. In the race for New Jersey governor, Democratic nominee Mikie Sherrill is trying to reverse Donald Trump’s gains with Latino voters in the 2024 election while her Republican rival, Jack Ciattarelli, is seeking to build on them. Their dueling missions collided on recent back-to-back days in this northern New Jersey county, where Ciattarelli worked to turn out early voters in Clifton with the governor of Puerto Rico, Republican Jenniffer González-Colón. In neighboring Paterson one day later, Sherrill campaigned with Democratic Rep. Nellie Pou, who represents the area, sprinkling in some Spanish to rev up the crowd. “Recuerda, este estado no...

In a stunning and significant pushback to the “doomsday” climate activist community, Bill Gates, a leading proponent for carbon emissions reductions, published a remarkable essay Tuesday that argued resources must be shifted away from the battle against climate change. Instead, Gates argues, the world’s philanthropists must increase their investment in other efforts aimed at preventing disease and hunger. Climate change is not going to wipe out humanity, he argued, and past efforts that strive for achieving zero carbon emissions have made real progress. But Gates said that past investments fighting climate change have been misplaced, and too much good money...

Take this with a grain of salt, but users have reported another privacy transgression by Microsoft. According to the report by users from the Resetera forum and elsewhere, Copilot Gaming, an AI specially for gaming-related AI tasks, is taking screen captures of your gameplay for training. While that would be fine if the user knew about it and enabled it willingly, it appears to be turned on automatically and without informing users about the data collecting and use of the data. According to the user who noticed it first by monitoring network traffic, the AI is using OCR technology to...

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not go to a regional leaders summit in Malaysia this week to avoid meeting President Donald Trump and having possible conversations about Pakistan, people familiar with the matter said, Bloomberg reported Tuesday. Modi was at first supposed to go to the meeting in person, but he changed his plans at the last minute and decided to attend virtually, according to Business Recorder. Indian officials were concerned that Trump would again bring up his claim that he mediated a ceasefire between India and Pakistan after a four-day conflict in May, the sources said, according to...

U.S. Border Patrol chief Gregory Bovino, who appeared in federal court on Tuesday sporting his trademark dark green uniform and crew cut, seems likely to become a regular presence there. U.S. District Court judge Sara Ellis ordered Bovino, the Border Patrol sector chief overseeing the agency’s operations in Chicago and previously in Los Angeles, to appear in federal court each weekday at 6 p.m. to report on daily immigration operations. She also ordered that he turn over all agents’ use of force reports from Sept. 2 through Oct. 25, as well as the bodycam footage corresponding to those reports, by...

The retreat from Russia by Napoleon Bonaparte and the French Grande Armée in 1812 was a cataclysmic event that marked the beginning of the end for his empire and personal dominance in Europe, with about 300,000 soldiers perishing in a force that originally numbered roughly a half million. A new study involving DNA extracted from the teeth of 13 French soldiers who were buried in a mass grave in Lithuania's capital Vilnius along the route of the retreat is offering a deeper understanding of the misery the Grande Armée experienced, detecting two pathogens not previously documented in this event. "Vilnius...
