Hurricane Melissa has made landfall in Jamaica and is set to wreak havoc on the Caribbean island, including an abundance of displaced wildlife.
The National Hurricane Center downgraded the storm to a 'powerful' Category 4 at 4pm ET, hours after it made landfall on the west coast of Jamaica.
The Jamaican government has contacted the Trump administration and launched a relief website as the nation looks to recover from the catastrophic winds, flash flooding and storm surge
So far, multiple deaths have been reported. Locals have been warned to shelter indoors, with 185mph winds, flooding and huge ocean surges all forecast.
Health officials have also warned island dwellers of displaced crocodiles during the storm chaos.
'Heavy rains and flooding associated with Hurricane Melissa may result in crocodiles being displaced from their natural habitats,' said the island’s South East Regional Health Authority in an official social media post.
Melissa is one of the strongest hurricanes in recorded history, surpassing the intensity of Katrina. That storm caused an estimated $125bn (£94bn) worth of damage and killed 1,392 people when it struck New Orleans in 2005.
Officials warn residents to be mindful of crocodiles displaced by storm
Jamaica's South East Regional Health Authority warned residents in Kingston, St Andrew, St Catherine and St Thomas to be aware of displaced crocodiles.
'Exercise extreme caution as heavy rains and flooding associated with Hurricane Melissa may result in crocodiles being displaced from their natural habitats,' the agency said.
'Rising water levels in rivers, gullies and swamps could cause crocodiles to move into residential areas in search of dry ground.
'Residents living near these areas are therefore advised to remain vigilant and avoid flood-waters.'

Why not contact Mexico or Cuba or any South American government?
America can’t shoulder the world’s problems.
Let them contact King Charles. They're his subjects.
Maybe they could become a U.S. territory like Canada or Greenland.
>> surpassing the intensity of Katrina
thus, Bush’s/Trump’s fault
Jamaicans achieved independence from the United Kingdom on 6 August 1962. Let them call the UK.
Nix to becoming another welfare territory. We need another PR like we need another Obama.

It isn’t like a tornado. They knew this was coming.
Plan.
I hope Trump helps. His help would actually help people.
Yes, Jamaica is Commonwealth, but it is also close. And, Commonwealth doesn’t mean much, these days.
We also have lots of assets nearby to help deliver the aid. We’re good at that. I may well be wrong, but I’ve come to believe that President Trump is a humanitarian, he doesn’t want people to suffer.
And chupacabras and roogaroos and sasquatches..... Bad enough without adding to it. Prayers up for brothers and sisters in harms way.
One thing that Trump could do at minimal cost to the taxpayer is centralize private donations. And shame Hollywood types into writing checks. We should be good neighbors.
Very rare there attacks wise
But alligator pond and black river got plenty
This. A lot of heartless people on this thread. It's a reminder than just because this is a Conservative site, not everyone here are Christians. If there's something we can do for them to alleviate their immediate suffering, we should. It doesn't mean we have to be there long term.
They can call their neighbors in Haiti. We’ve send billions to that dump.
I’m sure west Jamaica is getting hit hard but their large city Kingston in the east is looking good based on the clock webcam.
Since the area hit is less developed and populated than where Katrina hit the dollar amount may not be as high but the devastation will still be horrendous.
Agree ask Mexico etc for help by CT I r
No sympathy. This was an extremely slow moving storm— they had plenty of time to get out.
