Bomb squad technicians who responded to a Santa Monica townhome complex where a resident reported finding grenades X-rayed the explosives and told city police they believed the devices were inert, according to a new search warrant in the investigation into the explosion that killed three Los Angeles County Sheriff’s detectives last week. The bomb squad retrieved two hand grenades left behind — apparently by a previous tenant — in an underground parking garage storage unit at the Bay Street complex on Thursday night and took them to the Biscailuz Center Training Academy. The next day, at least one of the grenades...

Something strange is happening with California’s summer. While much of the world swelters or floods, California has been caught in a quieter kind of extreme, especially in places like the Bay Area. Here, stable conditions have dominated for weeks, with relentless cloud cover, cool temperatures and a stubborn marine layer. It’s not just a coastal phenomenon. Inland spots are running cooler than normal too, creating a rare kind of regional uniformity for July. Tuesday was the second consecutive day where not a single spot in the Bay cracked 80 degrees and every location was running below normal temperatures. This cool,...

WASHINGTON (AP) — Six months into his second term, President Donald Trump has gotten almost everything he has wanted from the Supreme Court that he reshaped during his first. The legal victories are noteworthy on their own, but how the president is achieving them is remarkable. Administration lawyers are harnessing emergency appeals, which were used sparingly under...

July 23 (Reuters) - Chinese-made engines are being covertly shipped via front companies to a state-owned drone manufacturer in Russia, labelled as "industrial refrigeration units" to avoid detection in the wake of Western sanctions, according to three European security officials and documents reviewed by Reuters. The shipments have allowed Russian weapons-maker IEMZ Kupol to increase its production of the Garpiya-A1 attack drone, despite the U.S. and E.U. sanctions imposed in October designed to disrupt its supply chain, according to the sources and documents, which included contracts, invoices and customs paperwork. An internal Kupol document, reviewed by Reuters, showed it signed...

House Democratic leaders on Wednesday stepped up their hardball criticism of President Trump and the GOP over the Jeffrey Epstein controversy, accusing their rivals of shielding pedophiles by not releasing federal files surrounding the case. The Democrats say the decision by GOP leaders to leave Washington a day early for the long summer recess — a move precipitated by Democratic efforts to force votes compelling the Trump administration to release those files — is indication that Republicans don’t want the details of the Epstein case revealed because they might implicate wealthy GOP donors, or even President Trump himself. “What a...

[Catholic Caucus] Close the Workshop: Why the Old Mass Isn’t Broken and the New Mass Can’t be FixedIf we are well past the days when it was common for faithful Catholics to become unhinged at the very suggestion of “fixing” the Missal of Paul VI, we must admit that is in large part due to the influence of those calling for a reform of the reform—obviously including a pope, several curial cardinals and such organs of so-called “mainstream” orthodoxy as Ignatius Press and Adoremus Bulletin. Some who favor this project, perhaps most, see it merely as a pragmatic way to enable...

Why pay higher prices in a more competitive housing market when you can just keep paying compulsory taxes on your capital gains? That’s effectively the head-scratching argument CNN tried to make to ding President Trump’s tax-cutting agenda. Yeah, we couldn’t really make sense of that logic either.

A federal appeals court ruled in favor of MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell on Wednesday in his bid to avoid paying $5 million to a software developer who declared victory in Lindell’s contest to disprove his claims of foreign interference in the 2020 election. The three-judge 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals panel’s unanimous decision found an arbitration panel exceeded its power by changing unambiguous contract terms to award the developer Lindell’s prize. “Fair or not, agreed-to contract terms may not be modified by the panel or by this court,” U.S. Circuit Judge James Loken wrote in the 12-page decision. In...

No other story should be allowed to divert your attention away from Epstein and Trump. That definitely seems to be the attitude with Politico which is now treating the unfolding of the shocking details of Team Obama and their role in basically staging a coup against incoming President Donald Trump in December 2016 as really nothing more than an annoying diversion away from EPSTEIN! That is the basic theme of Tuesday's article by Politico's White House correspondent Eli Stokols, "Deflecting Epstein questions, Trump urges...
