NEW YORK, June 20 (C-Fam) A UN committee of human rights experts told the Government of Guatemala that its restrictive abortion laws must change. Unlike many non-binding recommendations of UN rights bodies, the opinion in this case is binding to a limited degree. The Human Rights Committee, charged with monitoring the implementation of the UN civil rights treaty, told the small Central American nation that its abortion laws violate its human rights obligations. The opinion of the UN treaty body is doubly controversial. Not only does the opinion call for legal abortion. It attempts to redefine the technical legal term...

The Irish Rover, a student-run Catholic newspaper at the University of Notre Dame, has won a major legal victory after the Indiana Supreme Court declined to hear a defamation case brought by Professor Tamara Kay. The court’s June 18 decision ends a multi-year legal effort by Kay to challenge the paper’s reporting on her pro-abortion activism — leaving intact lower court rulings that found the Rover’s coverage was accurate and protected under Indiana law, the Irish Rover reported. Kay sued the newspaper in 2023 over two articles she claimed were defamatory. The first, published in the fall of 2022, cited...

The end is nigh. That seems to be the message this week from the three liberal justices at the Supreme Court when faced with the nightmarish prospect of parents being able to remove their young children from mandatory classes on gay, lesbian and transgender material. … Justice Sonia Sotomayor declared that there “will be chaos for this nation’s public schools” and both education and children will “suffer” if parents are allowed to opt their children out of these lessons. She also worried about the “chilling effect” of the ruling, which would make schools more hesitant to offer such classes in...

Unprovoked, Brice violently attacked both men, leaving Schaefer unconscious and Crosby with multiple fractured facial bones and temporary blindness. On February 6th, the jury found Patrick Brice guilty on two counts of misdemeanor...

California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed on Friday a budget that pares back a number of progressive priorities, including a landmark health care expansion for low-income adult illegal immigrants, to close a $12 billion deficit. It’s the third year in a row the nation’s most populous state has been forced to slash funding or stop some of the programs championed by Democratic leaders. Lawmakers passed the budget earlier in the day following an agreement of a $321 billion spending plan between Newsom and Democratic leaders. But the whole budget will be void if lawmakers don’t send him legislation to make it...

In many ways, the winner of the Democratic primary for mayor of New York City Zohran Mamdani is a gift to Republicans. He puts a big spotlight on all the extremism that the Democrats have embraced; he drives it all out into the open. When asked by host Kristen Welker whether he thought as a "self-declared Democratic Socialist," whether billionaires have a "right to exist." His response should give everyone pause. ZOHRAN MAMDANI: “I don't think that we should have billionaires.” pic.twitter.com/optpzkp28w— Open Source Intel (@Osint613) June 29, 2025I don't think that we should have billionaires because, frankly, it is...

There has been much discussion and conflicting opinions on how much damage the U.S. “Operation Midnight Hammer” strikes did to Iran’s nuclear facilities, especially the underground site Fordow. President Trump and his team claim that the 14 bunker-busting bombs destroyed the place and left it inoperable, while the mainstream media has been working aggressively to say the attacks only set Iran’s nuclear dreams back by a few months. Now there is fresh evidence that the late-night B-2 stealth bomber-led strikes caused plenty of destruction, and the Iranians are already trying to clean it up:NEW FORDOW SATELLITE IMAGESOngoing activity includes cranes,...

Venessa Pinto, employed by the Leicester diocese of the Church of England as a lay preacher...asked him out. "I was very taken aback, because I didn't know her. And I was like, 'I'm gay, but thank you for asking.' But she asked me if it was because she was black." ... Hulme, then in his mid-twenties, was at a very happy juncture in his life. Canada announced Sunday night it was suspending a tax on U.S. technology firms that had caused President Trump to suspend trade negotiations between the two nations, handing a major victory to the American president. The Canadian government said it was suspending enforcement of the tax that was due to be collected starting Monday, saying the action was taken “in anticipation of a mutually beneficial comprehensive trade arrangement with the United States.” Prime Minister Mark Carney informed the Trump administration of the decision, and the two sides plan to resume trade talks on or about July 21. Trump had called the...

St. Peter and St. Paul are two of the most well-known saints and are often spoken of as the two men most responsible for spreading the Christian message in the days of the early church. As to why they are celebrated on the same day, legend has it that they were executed on the same day under the command of Emperor Nero and buried in Rome. (Although historical accounts cite Peter being martyred in 64 AD and Paul in 67 AD.) Because of his Roman citizenship, Saint Paul was beheaded. St. Peter was reportedly crucified upside down because he said...

A nonprofit founded by Georgia Democratic politician Stacey Abrams to protect voting rights paid more than $20 million to a lawyer who is a close friend and helped set up two of her private businesses, according to tax and state incorporation filings and other records obtained by RealClearInvestigations. Abrams’ Fair Fight Action redirected the tax-exempt donations and government grants to Allegra Lawrence-Hardy, her former campaign chair between 2019 and 2023. Most of the funds covered legal expenses charged by the boutique law firm Lawrence-Hardy co-founded, for a failed race-bias lawsuit filed against Abram’s Republican opponent, Gov. Brian Kemp, after she...

So I just got back from a neurologist for a little more of a precise diagnosis of what for a couple of decades has been called "ADHD." It was actually a very in-depth series of IQ tests. Turns out I'm "genius" level in comprehension, verbal abilities, short-term memory, and so on. But seriously below average in long-term memory. Like 145, 143, 141, 139, 147, 151... 86??? Fortunately, it doesn't fit any profiles of dementia or Alzheimer's, especially since I'd be incredibly young for that. Could be brain damage, given my history. Could just be a weird roll of the dice,...
