[Catholic Caucus] The Jubilee Flop: the Flowering Nothingness of the Francis Pontificate A letter sent to our friends in the Argentine blog Caminante Wanderer:Dear Wanderer,As I know you and your readers are interested, I am sending you a brief chronicle of my trip to Rome.I expected, as did the [Italian] government and the merchants of the city, that by this time Rome would be full of pilgrims who had come for the Jubilee, and would join the usual crowds of tourists. Well, neither the one nor the other. Rome is empty and, above all, empty of pilgrims. Everyone agrees that...

I do believe we have to give credit where credit is due. The people selected by POTUS Trump, sans Gaetz, have or are being approved for their Cabinet positions. Every one of them, sans Gaetz and it has occurred about has quickly as we could hope. Without saying too much or drawing attention to himself, Senator Thune obviously gets a lot of credit for pulling the GOP Senators together and getting the job done. Senator Thune certainly has my respect, and I admire his approach, which is directly opposite of his nemisis, Chucky Schumer.

Did Obama officials force Pope Benedict’s resignation? Open letter calls for Trump investigationWe are asking for an investigation into the affairs of our own government. It is not unprecedented for a corrupt government to attempt to insert itself into the life of the Church.Shortly after the first inauguration of President Trump in 2017, an open letter was published in The Remnant Newspaper requesting an investigation into potential involvement by the Obama Administration in the affairs of the Catholic Church. Specifically, the authors asked whether the U.S. Government was involved in the sequence of events that resulted in the resignation of...

Scaremonger much, Jim Sciutto? On today's CNN This Morning, subbing for Kasie Hunt, Sciutto suggested that if Americans don't pay sufficient attention to Trump's handling of Ukraine, it could lead to another 9/11.Before making that baleful prophecy, Sciutto began by comparing Trump unfavorably to Neville Chamberlain and his failed attempt to appease Hitler. Sciutto approvingly quoted a post by David Frum noting that at least Chamberlain never parroted Nazi propaganda. Sciutto then observed: "Trump is amplifying the Kremlin propaganda here." Sciutto pulled the 9/11 redux alarm in response to a statement by panelist Edward-Isaac Dovere, a CNN reporter, that "foreign...

When are we Europeans going to stop being scandalised about Donald Trump and start helping him to end this war? Of course Ukraine didn’t start the war. You might as well say that America attacked Japan at Pearl Harbor. Of course a country undergoing a violent invasion should not be staging elections. There was no general election in the UK from 1935 to 1945. Of course Zelenskyy’s ratings are not 4%. They are actually about the same as Trump’s. Trump’s statements are not intended to be historically accurate but to shock Europeans into action. In particular the US can see...

The display of seismic activity has drawn numerous visitors, including Marco Bassot, a snowboarder. Several days ago, Bassot began sharing footage of climbing and riding the erupting volcano. The snowboarder in the videos cruised down patches of snow while, in the background, a river of lava bubbled. "This fracture started some days ago and created a huge, intense and impressive lava flow for more than 1.000 m, you can really feel the heat," Bassot wrote in a social media post. "I've seen many things in my 40 years of life but riding side by side of a flowing river of...

A scheduled purge of potentially thousands of Internal Revenue Service (IRS) employees scheduled to begin Thursday could “disrupt tax-filing season,” Politico reported on Wednesday evening. According to the outlet and others, employees who are relatively new to the agency are expected to be hit hard by staffing cuts days after Elon Musk’s DOGE sought access to IRS computers. When Isaac Newton inscribed onto parchment his now-famed laws of motion in 1687, he could have only hoped we'd be discussing them three centuries later. Writing in Latin, Newton outlined three universal principles describing how the motion of objects is governed in our Universe, which have been translated, transcribed, discussed and debated at length. But according to a philosopher of language and mathematics, we might have been interpreting Newton's precise wording of his first law of motion slightly wrong all along. Virginia Tech philosopher Daniel Hoek wanted to "set the record straight" after discovering what he describes as a "clumsy...
