American Federation of Teachers boss Randi Weingarten has been ripped as an “unhinged lunatic” after she delivered a wild, political rally-style speech suggesting that former President Donald Trump was an “existential threat” to democracy. The teachers’ union president screamed and shouted at her members as she warned of looming violence and fascism if Trump wins the 2024 election when she took the stage during the AFT’s annual convention in Houston, Texas, on Monday. “The November elections will determine which path we take as a nation. Progress is indeed possible, but so is the eradication of the rights and freedoms we...

Senator Chris Coons (D-DE) said Tuesday on “CNN This Morning” that what Democrats knew about President Joe Biden’s cognitive decline was not relevant. Host Kasie Hunt said, “We know that the one of the principle lines of attacks, and I’ve talked to sources who say the polling shows this is a serious vulnerability that Republicans are going to say that Kamala Harris knew that President Biden wasn’t up to four more years. I mean, they would say that about you, I think as well, and they’re going to allege a coverup. They’re going to say she knew she covered it...

Kamala Harris will likely be the next president of the United States – and that’s overall good news if you care about democracy, justice and equality. Joe Biden’s decision on Sunday to bow out of the presidential race clears the path for the country to elect its first woman and first woman of color as president. Even though the electoral fundamentals for this year’s election have always favored the Democrats – despite what numerous misleading polls have been showing (and with most of the news media reacting purely off those polls) – Harris’s selection will largely shore up the weaknesses...

Daily Readings from the USCCB“Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?” And stretching out his hand toward his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of my heavenly Father is my brother, and sister, and mother.” Matthew 12:48–50These questions of Jesus were posed by Him to a crowd of people who were inside a house where He was teaching. His mother and brothers arrived outside asking to speak to Him. First of all, it should be noted that the word “brothers” in ancient Hebrew, Aramaic and other languages did not necessarily...

An international team of researchers, including a chemist from Northwestern University, has discovered that metallic minerals on the deep-ocean floor can produce oxygen at depths of 13,000 feet. This finding challenges the traditional belief that only photosynthetic organisms, such as plants and algae, generate Earth's oxygen. The discovery suggests oxygen can also be produced at the seafloor, supporting aerobic sea life in complete darkness. The study will be published on Monday, July 22, in the journal Nature Geoscience. Andrew Sweetman from the Scottish Association for Marine Science (SAMS) discovered this "dark oxygen" during ship-based fieldwork in the Pacific Ocean. Franz...

Javier Milei’s triumph in the first round of the Argentine elections last year—the first of three that make up our tortuous process of electing a president—provoked not just shock, but confusion. Immediately, WhatsApp threads were bursting with different versions of the same question: Was he “far right”? Or was he something more bizarre—the first libertarian candidate in the world with a chance to win? The question was—and is—far from foolish. Milei presented himself as a central part of a new right-wing international, expressing solidarity with world leaders like Donald Trump and Brazil’s Jair Bolsonaro. Everyone was happy then: The global...

Joe Biden has endorsed Kamala Harris for president. This does NOT mean that Kamala Harris is the Democratic nominee. The official nominee will be declared at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago on August 19. Democrats should be livid that their party never offered them an alternative to Biden. They refused to permit any candidate to challenge Biden and ignored anyone who came forward. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. changed party affiliations for numerous reasons, but one major reason was that he simply was ignored in favor of the establishment’s selected candidate. Of course, Joe Biden had to appoint Kamala Harris....

This poll was...
