Let's file this one in the "you can't make this up" category. Down Mexico way, they are running out of farm workers. This is the story: For decades, Mexicans crossed the border to pick Americans’ lettuce, grapes and strawberries. Mexico had a seemingly inexhaustible supply of farmhands — tough, hard-working men who did the jobs most Americans didn’t want. But the country is running short of farmworkers. The workforce is graying; nearly three-quarters of Mexican campesinos are over 45. Young people are turning up their noses at farm jobs. And those willing to do migrant work have other options. Nearly 300,000...

President Joe Biden will announce Monday that student debt held by ten million Americans will transfer to taxpayers, White House officials told reporters Monday. The plan to convey student loan debt to taxpayers is widely seen as a political move to gain electoral traction among young voters, who largely do not approve of Biden’s leadership. Taxpayers can expect to absorb about $5,000 for each of the ten million students, according to the plan Biden is set to tout in Wisconsin. Overall, Biden intends to cut the amount that 23 million students owe on their loans, placing the burden on taxpayers...

Criticism of the judge overseeing former President Donald Trump’s classified documents case lacks a legal justification, experts told the Daily Caller News Foundation.Judge Aileen Cannon, who was appointed to the bench by Trump in 2020, has repeatedly come under fire by liberal commentators and legal analysts for decisions seen as favoring the former president and intentionally slow-walking the case. But legal experts who spoke with the DCNF said she’s simply being fair and following normal procedure.“Most of the partisan, left-wing criticism against Judge Cannon is not grounded in legal substance and instead is due to their personal dislike of the...

Back in the day, when such things were allowed, potboiler thrillers set in various benighted lands often included a scene in which the ooga-booga natives were interrupted in various exercises of stake-burning or incipient cannibalism by the claim of one of the intended victims that he could blot out the sun. Prove it! they shouted and -- armed with his European foreknowledge of an imminent solar eclipse in that very spot and at that very moment -- so he did. The indigenous peoples collapsed in fear and awe while the divinized interlopers made their getaway. Today, things have flipped. The...

What happens when one of the major political parties suggests the most modest of reforms to the benefits future Social Security beneficiaries will receive? The other major political party goes ballistic.Such were the atmospherics when the Republican Study Committee (RSC) played against the prevailing type with the GOP so far and issued a plan that included tweaking the retirement age.According to the RSC plan, the changes are intended to “prevent Biden's cuts to Social Security.” Setting aside who would be responsible for any future benefits cuts – which are all but assured if no one does anything now to avert them...

Hunter Biden’s attorney, Abbe Lowell, and a top aide for First Lady Jill Biden attended a White House event on December 11, 2023, two days before Hunter defied a congressional subpoena to appear before Congress, White House visitor logs show reported by New York Post’s Jon Levine. The attendance of Lowell and Biden’s aide, along with the timing of the appearances, raises questions about whether the White House and Hunter’s legal team are in coordination. The White House claimed the log entry related to a White House Hanukkah reception and that nobody discussed Hunter’s legal woes, Levine reported.

President Joe Biden has made student loan forgiveness a top priority after young voters elected him by large margins in 2020. Ahead of another matchup with former President Donald Trump, the voting bloc might just abandon him, anyway. Despite Biden’s continued efforts to cancel massive amounts of student loans for millions of Americans, along with various other left-wing policy achievements, polling indicates his lead among young voters has dropped significantly since last cycle. The loss in support is partially attributable to Biden’s support of Israel following the Oct. 7 Hamas terrorist attack, as young individuals largely express support for Palestinians...

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) broke with former President Trump on Monday over Trump’s decision to back away from endorsing a national 15-week abortion ban, declaring that leaving the issue entirely to the states “runs contrary to an American consensus that would limit late-term abortions.” “I respectfully disagree with President Trump’s statement that abortion is a states’ rights issue,” he said in a statement responding to Trump. Trump on Monday reversed course on his plan to support a 15-week or 16-week national abortion ban amid pushback from top Republicans, who warned it would put the issue of abortion rights at the...

They remain one of the most elusive groups of humans to have walked on earth. Evidence from the DNA traces left by Denisovans shows they lived on the Tibetan plateau, probably travelled to the Philippines and Laos in south Asia and might have made their way to northern China more than 100,000 years ago. They also interbred with modern humans...Their DNA, which was first found in samples from the Denisova cave in Siberia in 2010, provides most of our information about their existence. But recently scientists have pinpointed a strong candidate for the species to which the Denisovans might have belonged....
