Disturbed gut flora during the first years of life is associated with diagnoses such as autism and ADHD later in life, according to a study. The study is part of the ABIS study. More than 16,000 children born in 1997–1999, representing the general population, have been followed from birth into their twenties. Of these, 1,197 children, corresponding to 7.3%, have been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, communication disorder or intellectual disability. Children who had repeated ear infections during their first year of life had an increased risk of being diagnosed with a developmental neurological disorder later in life. It...

This week, Karl Rove, the political genius who guided former President George W. Bush to two election victories, predicted that Trump's pledge to review all the cases of the January 6 defendants and pardon those who deserve clemency"will sink his campaign. There isn't an innocent person in the whole bunch. They illegally trespassed on government property while official proceedings were underway." Rove rejected claims that the mostly peaceful January 6 demonstrators should be treated the same way that those demonstrating against the death of George Floyd in 2020 while in the custody of Minneapolis police officers were, saying "none of...

A brazen Los Angeles cash heist on Easter weekend in which thieves cracked a safe and got away with as much as $30 million is believed to be one of the largest such heists in U.S. history. The heist has triggered rampant speculation among a public long infatuated with daring burglaries and hefty criminal paydays. L.A. police and the FBI were tight-lipped Friday about any new developments in their joint investigation, but police Cmdr. Elaine Morales told The Los Angeles Times, which broke news of the crime, that thieves were able to breach the money storage facility in the suburban...

On Friday, Joe Biden visited the site of the collapsed Francis Scott Key Bridge in Maryland — the same bridge he claimed he commuted over regularly via rail, even though it has no tracks — and he just couldn't help himself by invoking the death of his son Beau in order to play the empathy card. "Well, to all the families and loved ones who are grieving: I’ve come here to grieve with you. We all are," he said. "It’s not the same, but I know a little bit about what it’s like to lose a piece of your soul...

You are “killing people,” President Biden told social media companies a couple of years ago. He sought to shame executives into censoring more Americans. Biden has lashed out at disinformation by anti-vaxxers, “election deniers” and others. This month, those words were thrown back at Biden himself as a “genocide denier” by protesters who have labeled him “Genocide Joe” over his support for Israel. After years of supporting censorship and blacklisting of people with opposing views, politicians and academics are finding themselves the subjects of the very anti-free speech tactics that they helped foster.

(NEXSTAR) — Decades ago, buying a home for $100,000 or less was the norm. Today, you need to earn at least $100,000 just to afford a “typical” home, according to a new analysis. Data tracked by the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis shows the average sales price for homes sold in the U.S. was $492,300 last quarter, down from $552,600 a year prior. While there are signs of improvement, home sale prices are nowhere near where they were 40 years ago: in Q4 of 1984, the average sales price for houses sold nationwide was $97,800.

Police in the northern German port city of Kiel on Friday said they had discovered counterfeit cash worth more than $103 million. Officials think the haul of low-quality forgeries was part of a wider shipment operation for falsified bills from Turkey, through Germany, to the United States. How did police find the counterfeit notes? Investigators tracked the company locations of a suspect after US security authorities tipped off German federal police. State police in Schleswig-Holstein said they conducted "extensive searches" of an apartment and two company addresses, in both Schleswig-Holstein and neighboring Hamburg. Officers discovered and seized four pallets containing...

Four months into his tenure, new Argentine President Javier Milei has largely delivered on his promise to take a chainsaw to Argentina’s socialist government and bloated state bureaucracy. Now, he’s also hinted at plans to help build an international coalition of conservatives to counter the global left. In recent days, Milei laid off 15,000 more government bureaucrats, on top of the 9,000 he laid off late last year. Tens of thousands more layoffs are expected in the coming months. In addition, Milei has cut the number of state ministries in half, mandated in-person work for government employees, and dramatically reduced...

Is it all downhill from here? Powerball lottery winner Edwin Castro’s West Hollywood manse was narrowly missed by a landslide this week, aerial images showed — as the crumbling hillside buried half a neighboring home in dirt. Castro’s $25.5 million sprawl was just feet away from the landslide that crashed through the tony Hollywood Hills neighborhood following this week’s storm, according to images obtained by the US Sun.

Ask anyone on the street to name a Greek dish, and nine times out of 10 they'll likely say the gyro. The Greek wrap, whose name refers to the rotational cooking method it utilizes (think the gyroscope) consists of seasoned beef and lamb seared on a vertical spit. The broiled meat is then sliced into strips and stuffed in a pita along with tomatoes, lettuce, and a tangy cucumber yogurt sauce called tzatziki. While the street food emerged in New York during the 1970s, historians say the sandwich can be traced back to Ancient Greece, where it's believed Alexander...

Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and more than 30 House Democrats sent a letter to President Biden and Secretary of State Antony Blinken urging them to reconsider the recent authorization of weapons to Israel, just days after seven aid workers were killed. “In light of this incident, we strongly urge you to reconsider your recent decision to authorize the transfer of a new arms package to Israel, and to withhold this and any future offensive arms transfers until a full investigation into the airstrike is completed,” the letter said, obtained and first reported by NBC News.

Francis’s False Peace Depends Upon Eclipsing the True FaithAccording to Francis, all religions (other than unadulterated Catholicism) are worthwhile and can contribute to the common good and the promotion of peace. “The desire for peace is certainly harbored in every breast, and there is no one who does not ardently invoke it. But to want peace without God is an absurdity, seeing that where God is absent thence too justice flies, and when justice is taken away it is vain to cherish the hope of peace. ‘Peace is the work of justice’ (Is. xxii., 17).” (St. Pius X, E Supremi,...

On Friday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “Inside with Jen Psaki,” Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) stated that the military operation to build a pier to help deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza is a mission where “we knew” that the American troops in charge of the mission, “might be in harm’s way from Hamas. But after the events of this week, anybody doing humanitarian aid is going to wonder if they’re in harm’s way from the IDF. And so, we’ve got to see a dramatic uptake in Israel allowing humanitarian aid to suffering people.”

President Volodymyr Zelensky’s chief of staff said this week that there will be no “compromises” with Russia despite fears that Moscow will seek to capture more territory after the failures of the counteroffensive last year. Andriy Yermak, one of the most powerful figures in the Zelensky government, told POLITICO that Kyiv will not accept any terms in which the lines of conflict are frozen and that Ukraine will not accept any agreement that infringes upon its borders.

Our justice system is a goner. The writing was on the wall the moment Douglass Mackey got a federal prison slot for posting an anti-Hillary meme. Then, seeing J6 patriots branded as domestic terrorists and political prisoners sealed the deal. And when they threw a parade of sham indictments at President Trump, also known as “election interference,” well, that was the cherry on top. However, if anyone’s still thinking our system might have a shred of fairness left, this latest saga ought to flip that switch for you and prove once and for all that the US Government is the...
