It’s springtime, and that means it’s time for a fresh round of deceptive and destructive ballot initiatives. More often than not, these proposals are at odds with the principles of conservative governance, even if they don’t always sound that way. The exact ballot initiative process varies from state to state, but the idea is simple: if you collect enough signatures, you can bypass the state legislature to get a proposed change to state law or even the state constitution on the ballot. If enough people vote for the change, it goes into effect whether the state legislators like it or...

Ukraine's navy said in a statement published on Tuesday that Kyiv had "successfully destroyed" the Konstantin Olshansky, and the three other vessels it targeted since Saturday. In a later statement, Pletenchuk said the Ivan Khurs reconnaissance ship may have sustained damage. It was one of two of this type of reconnaissance vessel at Russia's disposal ... Ukraine used a home-grown Neptune anti-ship missile to strike the Konstantin Olshansky, which was being "prepared for use against Ukraine," Pletenchuk said. Pletenchuk said the attack on the Konstantin Olshansky landing ship had taken place on Saturday, the same day as the strikes on...

An illegal alien in Florida escaped prosecution for resisting arrest because he speaks no English…and now he’s suing the estate of the officer who collapsed while arresting him. If you’ve ever wondered how lost America is, I think this story tells the tale. I’ll limit my comments because the facts really do speak for themselves.

From Our Own Correspondent. NASHVILLE, Tenn., Saturday, March 19. The weather for the past four or five days has been decidedly cold and disagreeable. Business, however, and travel, all the time increase. Immediately in our midst, outside of the military, nothing is transpiring of moment. For the past few days there has been a considerable buzz around headquarters. and yesterday Lieut.-Gen. GRANT, Maj.-Gens. ROUSSEAU, DODGE, SHERMAN, and SHERRIDAN, and Brig.-Gens. GRANGER (BOB), GILLEM, BARRY, WEBSTER, RAWLINGS and MANSON -- quite a group of luminaries -- were assembled at one time. Gen. SHERMAN went to work immediately upon his arrival here,...

The day before yesterday on NBC News, former host of “Meet the Press” Chuck Todd castigated the management of his network during a live broadcast. Todd’s grouse? NBC’s hiring of former Republican National Committee chairwoman Ronna McDaniel: “Let me deal with the elephant in the room. I think our bosses owe you an apology for putting you in this situation,” whined the sanctimonious Todd as he launched into a minute-long rant. “Look, there’s a reason why there’s a lot of journalists at NBC News uncomfortable with this because many of our professional dealings with the RNC over the six years...

At the same time, Capchem...

Allegations of “social cleansing” have been made against organisers of the Paris Summer Olympic Games as homeless people, sex workers, and illegal migrants are being taken off the city’s streets and sent to regional France ahead of the event. Serge Grouard, the mayor of Orleans in central France, went public Monday with his complaints over the unannounced arrival of up to 500 homeless migrants in his town of 100,000 people, AFP reports. “It has been proved that every three weeks, a coach arrives in Orleans from Paris, with between 35-50 people on board,” he told reporters, adding it was to...

Perverse IncentivesI. IntroductionWe live in a world awash in perverse incentives.A perverse incentive is when the rules, structures, or practices of any system reward bad behavior or sociopathic outcomes.I had to come up with my own definition because all of the official definitions claim that perverse incentives are unintended. However, after the events of the last four years many of us have grown skeptical that the harms we experience from bad policy and bad law are unintentional. The cobra effect is a classic example of a perverse incentive. From Wikipedia:The term cobra effect was coined by economist Horst Siebert based on...

DARIEN GAP, Panama—The grind of heavy machinery breaks the silence of the Darién jungle, where the Pan American Highway ends at Yaviza in Panama. Construction workers have cleared towering trees to make way for a steel and concrete bridge mighty enough to withstand flooding from the Chucunaque River. An onsite worker for the construction company Cusa told The Epoch Times the construction project will cut 4 miles into the Darién jungle at a cost of $42 million and includes a second bridge crossing the Tuira River. That would leave some 55 miles to finish the Pan American Highway, also known...

The leftist MSNBC shills were not happy about the news that Donald Trump’s original bond for his fraud case had been reduced from $454 million to $175 million. In a video shared on X, MSBNC’s guest had a complete meltdown in response to this news. While the deadline for Trump to pay a nearly half-billion-dollar bond was Monday, an appeals court ruled he pays only a portion of it, allowing him ten days to come up with the $175 million. WATCH

On Monday’s edition of NBC’s “MTP Now,” Rep. Mike Quigley (D-IL) said that the only way to have success against Hamas is through diplomacy and “Hamas is much more than a military organization, it’s a movement. And the manner in which Israel has conducted this war is a recruiting tool for Hamas. So, they’re really not accomplishing what they want to do if the destruction occurs at the level it has so far. They need to be much more surgical and tactical.” Quigley stated, “[A]ny success there is going to be done diplomatically. So, those efforts to get a ceasefire...

Republican Rep. Tim Burchett of Tennessee isn’t holding back when it comes to the border. In remarks made on C-SPAN2 and posted by Townhall to X, the Tennessee representative impressed upon the American people the dire circumstances of the border crisis and the inaction by Congress. “When I first took office and this border issue was already an issue, I can remember we started talking then, and I said, ‘No border, no budget,'” he began his Monday remarks surrounded by Freedom Caucus members. “That’s how important it is to the American people,” he continued before starting in on the $1.2...

I suppose we're supposed to be happy that a New York appeals court reduced the amount of bond President Trump must post, just for the 'privilege' of appealing New York's outrageous, excessive, utterly vindictive, $454 million fine over a victimless crime from the state's little kangaroo court. According to Fox News:An appeals court slashed former President Trump's bond payment on Monday, saying Trump must pay $175 million within the next 10 days.Trump had previously faced a Monday deadline to pay a $454 million bond payment that came as a result of civil fraud allegations from New York Attorney General Letitia...

Rescue workers in Baltimore are working furiously in an attempt to save the lives of dozens of people who were plunged into the frigid waters of the Patapsco River when the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed after being hit by a container ship. On Monday 18 March, Israel arrested Al Jazeera ‘journalist’ Ismail Al Ghoul. As usual all was not as it seemed. Since October 7 we have witnessed a complete breakdown in the quality and honesty of western media coverage on Israel. The media lens has never treated Israeli fairly, but since the Hamas attack many of the world’s most famous media brands have reached a whole new level of toxicity . In fact, mainstream media outlets have been caught lying so many times they have started to defend themselves by blaming Israel – suggesting it is because Israel won’t let them...

At least eight states are planning to ban the sale of new gas-powered cars in the next decade - and others are considering joining them. Only zero-emission vehicles can be sold in participating states beginning from the 2035 model year, according to the Advanced Clean Cars II legislation. The rule, which was first adopted by California, means that automakers and dealerships would be banned from selling new gas cars in these states from that point onwards.

An old journalism axiom says that if everyone’s mad at you, you must be doing something right. Since NBC announced that it had hired Ronna McDaniel, the recently deposed chair of the Republican National Committee, as a paid contributor, everyone’s been mad. NBC executives are sure to be consoling themselves that they’re doing something right. It’s just hard to see what.
