Daily Readings from the USCCB“My heart is moved with pity for the crowd, because they have been with me now for three days and have nothing to eat. If I send them away hungry to their homes, they will collapse on the way, and some of them have come a great distance.” Mark 8:2–3Jesus’ primary mission was a spiritual one. He came to set us free from the effects of sin so that we could enter the glories of Heaven for all eternity. His life, death and resurrection destroyed death itself and opened the way for all who turn to...

"I thank my God in all my remembrance of you" (Phil. 1:3). A key to Christian joy is to recall the goodness of others. Though Paul was under house arrest in Rome when he wrote to the Philippians, his mind wasn't bound. Often he reflected on his experiences with the Philippian Christians. As he did, his thoughts turned to prayers of praise and thanksgiving for all that the Lord had done through them. I'm sure Paul remembered when he preached in Philippi and God opened Lydia's heart to believe the gospel (Acts 16:13-14). Subsequently everyone in her household was saved...

When Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, the Buzynov brothers, their mother, and Mykyta's girlfriend fled their home in Chernihiv in the north of the country to avoid the conflict. They went to the village of Mykhailo-Kotsiubynske, but by early March, Russian soldiers arrived there too. "We've come to liberate you from your government. Putin is cool," the soldiers exclaimed. Volodymyr says the soldiers searched the village, confiscating phones and accusing his family of sharing the location of the Russian army - something they all deny. Then, Volodymr says, the soldiers set up what sounded like a fake execution. "They...

A Kindergarten teacher who publicly questioned his school spending $250,000 on a 'Woke Kindergarten' curriculum for 'disrupting whiteness' amid plummeting numeracy and literacy rates has been suspended. Hayward Unified School District teacher Tiger Craven-Neeley said officials told him Thursday not to return to his classroom at Glassbrook Elementary until further notice. He said he was told the suspension was in place while the district investigates allegations of 'unprofessional conduct', after a tense meeting where one female colleague stuck her hand in his face and shrieked that he was 'a danger' to children.

A Kentucky transgender daycare worker reached a plea deal and avoided jail time after sexually-assaulting a baby while changing her diaper and bragging about it to a colleague. Maria Childers was arrested in February 2023 for inappropriately touching an infant and making inappropriate comments while changing the baby's diaper, reported WPSD Local 6. Investigators had received an anonymous tip that Childers had sexually abused a baby while working at Explore Learning Academy in Paducah in November 2022.

Underground Parking at the Palazzo At the 2024 SHOT Show, there was a significant change which was not widely announced. No more free self parking at the Venetian and Palazzo hotels, part of the Convention Center. For years, perhaps decades, the parking at the Venetian and Pallazzo was free. Parking is always something to be considered in busy downtown Las Vegas. When this correspondent first learned of the free parking, it was a tremendous improvement in covering the SHOT Show. From the free parking in the underground of the Palazzo, it wasn't far to an elevator which delivered you to...

A wooden tablet discovered on Easter Island may pre-date European colonization of the region, researchers revealed in early February. Less than 30 wooden tablets containing an undeciphered script called “Rongorongo” were found on the island of Rapa Nui (Easter Island), four of which were removed in 1869 by Catholic Missionaries, according to a study published in the journal Nature. Those wooden tablets were analyzed using radiocarbon dating, and one of them was found to pre-date European settlement on the island, the study said. Easter Island was “discovered” by Europeans in the 1720s, and absolutely decimated in the years following, the...

The head of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement says sanctuary cities are "inherently unsafe." That puts him at odds with the White House, which has repeatedly defended Democrat-controlled cities that harbor illegal aliens. "Sanctuary jurisdictions are inherently more unsafe because they’re letting these individuals out who have serious convictions," acting ICE director Patrick Lechleitner said in a Friday interview with Fox News. "Sanctuary jurisdiction" refers to any municipality whose leaders refuse to cooperate with immigration officials when an illegal alien under their jurisdiction commits an offense that would result in deportation. Lechleitner’s comments—a response to the Thursday arrest of four...

The Biden Administration has admitted to surveilling the private financial transactions of Americans for words including 'MAGA', 'Trump' and 'Kamala' following the January 6 riots. Federal investigators in the Treasury's Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) instructed banks to comb through records to look for 'extremists'. A letter from the Treasury Department, seen by Fox News, was sent to Senator Tim Scott on Friday which states 'Exchange events' began 'shortly after January 6 under the prior Administration'. It said it 'included terms such as "antifa," "MAGA," "Trump," "Biden," "Kamala," "Schumer," and "Pelosi."' The federal government was specifically 'watching' Trump supporters and...

I watched Tucker Carlson’s interview with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Putin is an amazing contrast to our 81-year old President with dementia who can barely speak while Putin was articulate. Not at all what Hillary Clinton was raving about (she is still furious about losing to Trump after losing to Obama). One thing that caught my attention was Putin talking about The Fed’s endless printing of money. Well, THAT is how the US grows GDP these days. Borrow and spend with the private sector as an after thought. Let’s revisit the HORRIBLE jobs report from December. Not only were all...

MSNBC host Rachel Maddow attempted to counter claims President Biden is too old to lead the White House by bringing up that he has the ability to ride a bike - despite the embarrassing stumble he suffered in June 2022. The issue of Biden's age shot back into focus this week following a damning special prosecutor conclusion that he mishandled classified materials, but was perceived as too old for a jury to convict. It said that a jury would probably conclude that he had 'diminished faculties' and was a 'well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.' In a discussion on...

... The Russian president argued that Poland was to blame for Hitler's decision to invade, claiming the Warsaw "went too far" by balking at the annexation of part of its territory. Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski suggested in a post to X, formerly Twitter, on Friday that Putin was "paranoid" and called it "shocking" that Carlson "enabled" the Russian president by giving him a platform to spread his false claims and rhetoric. Sikorski .. also noted that Hitler was joined in invading Poland by the Soviet Union, which was an ally to Nazi Germany for nearly the first two years...
