@KimDotcom Zelensky cancels elections, again: “We must understand that now is the time for a battle on which the fate of the state depends. Now is not the time for elections.” The US Govt tells us the proxy war is about defending democracy. They know their puppet wouldn’t win re-election.

Two people in Southern California have come down with dengue fever without traveling outside the United States, where the mosquito-borne illness is rare, health officials said. A Pasadena resident was confirmed to have dengue last month but is recovering, officials said. “This is the first confirmed case of dengue in California not associated with travel and is instead an extremely rare case of local transmission in the continental United States,” the Pasadena Public Health Department announced. The case remains under investigation, but it appears that someone became infected with the dengue virus, returned home and was bitten by a mosquito...

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has said he does not regret saying the Israeli response to the 7 October Hamas attack was becoming “something more approaching revenge”. […] Asked if he regretted the use of the word when commenting on Israel’s actions in Gaza, and if it would hamper Irish diplomatic efforts, he said he did not regret its use. He later said: “When the Tánaiste [Micheál Martin] and I take the positions that we do, we do so because we think it’s the right thing. Ultimately, this is about civilians. Israeli civilians who died and were injured, and also Palestinians who...

Recruitment and retention challenges have led the U.S. Coast Guard into a system-wide service retreat. A 3500-person shortfall—a nearly 10% shortage in the enlisted ranks—is forcing the Coast Guard to take ten cutters out of service, transfer five tugs to seasonal activation, and shutter 29 boat stations. The moves, couched as a bland “AY 24 Force Alignment Initiative”, present an unprecedented loss of maritime capability at a time when the United States is facing an array of complex challenges at sea. But the Coast Guard simply “cannot maintain the same level of operations” going forward. Behind the scenes, the service...

Two analysts have noted that special counsel Jack Smith might be on shaky legal ground in his federal election-related case against former President Donald Trump.Neama Rahmani, a former federal prosecutor, said that the Trump charge of corruptly obstructing an official proceeding hasn't been "extensively litigated" over the past several decades, adding that a ruling could come on whether it is appropriate in the former president's case.Multiple defendants who were charged in connection to the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol breach have "argued that Congress certifying the electoral votes was not an 'official proceeding' and courts have universally rejected that argument," she...

Another flashing warning sign that China’s struggling economy may not be bouncing back as quickly as it has in the past. For the first time in about 25 years, China’s measure of foreign investment turned negative.Outflows of foreign direct investment in China have exceeded inflows for the first time as tensions with the U.S. over semiconductor technology and concerns about increased anti-spying activity heighten risks. The shift was reflected in balance-of-payments data for the July-September quarter released Friday by the State Administration of Foreign Exchange.FDI came to minus $11.8 billion, with more withdrawals and downsizing than new investments for factory construction...

This past August, as things were beginning to really heat up as far as inflationary and warranty pressures on wind farm developers like Ørsted and turbine manufacturers like Siemens Gamesa, most of the attention was focused on the whale killing sonar surveying off the New Jersey coast. Learning about profits disappearing because of extraordinary problems with deliveries, cables, blades – whatever their issues were – or the nitty gritty of duking it out over already signed contractual agreements for rates increases can cause your eyes to glaze over. But a leviathan washing up on a popular beach…and another and another...

JOHNSTOWN, Pennsylvania — Two months ago, 30,000 truckers at Yellow lost their jobs when one of the nation’s oldest and largest trucking companies filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. Last week, Convoy, the digital freight broker that was supposed to reinvent the wheel and disrupt the trucking industry in a positive way, also abruptly shuttered its doors. These kinds of closings by both freight carriers lay bare the uncertain state of trucking, an industry that is an indicator of the mood of the consumer and also the beating heart of our economy. “In my opinion, this industry is heading in...

The CDC just reported significant increases in both infant mortality (deaths of children less than a year old) and neonatal mortality (deaths of infants under one month old) that started in 2022 and continued in 2023. Rates have been declining over the last several years, but this marks the first year-to-year increase in more than two decades.Unbelievably, ABC News explains how unusual these increases are, but attributes them to “a lack or absence of maternity care — which limits the ability to care for infants properly.” and limiting of access to abortion, particularly following the Supreme Court decision of Dobbs...

Gaza might become an international protectorate after the war, the EU has said, adding that neither Palestinian group Hamas nor Israel should ever rule there again. “After the previous Gaza wars, Hamas immediately started rebuilding its arsenal and preparing for the next conflict. This cannot be the case any longer. Different ideas are being discussed on how this can be ensured, including an international peace force under UN mandate,” said European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen on Monday (6 November). “There can be no long-term Israeli security presence in Gaza. Gaza is an essential part of any future Palestinian...
