Moral equivalence has two purposes. One is to enable the morally confused to hide their confusion. The other is to enable the immoral to hide their immorality. Here are two examples as applied to the Israeli-Arab conflict: One is the assertion we hear regarding the latest Israel-Hamas war by members of the Western Left, by Muslim supporters of the Palestinians and even by a few individuals on the Right: “Palestinian babies are as precious as Israeli babies.” Professor Cornel West, a lifelong progressive running for president as a Democrat: “As I have said for the past 50 years, a precious...

The attack on Israel by the forces of the Muslim terrorist organization, Hamas, have once again summoned up the oldest gods in the universe; neither the Hebrew, Christian, nor Muslim gods, but the eternal Gods of the Copybook Headings, as limned by the British poet and novelist Rudyard Kipling in his eponymous poem. Antedating Yahweh, God the Father, and Allah, they are the gods of the eternal verities of human existence whose tenets no amount of liberalism or progressivism or wokism can gainsay…. … The lesson currently being relearned by Israel is that the leopard never changes his spots, and...

[Catholic Caucus] Francis admits to being a heretic in latest interview, again attacks the rigid Extracts from the interview with commentary- link to full interview belowAdmits to bearing a heretic- Is it hard being the representative of God on Earth, and at this time?- I’m going to do a heresy. We are all representatives of God. Every person who believes must testify to what they believe and, in this sense, we are all representatives of God. It is true that the Pope is a privileged representative of God (laughs), and I must testify to an inner coherence, to the truth...

Violent crime was up 3.7 percent in 2022 in California even as violent crime rates dropped across the country, according to new FBI crime data released this week.Nationally, violent crime was down slightly, by 1.7 percent to pre-pandemic levels, according to the 2022 Crime In the Nation report from the FBI. At the same time, property crimes — especially auto theft — rose considerably, by 7.1 percent nationally and 7.6 percent in California....The report comes with a caveat, however. In the past, the annual snapshot of crime in the United States has been criticized as missing data from some of...

it would be disingenuous for conservatives to celebrate without acknowledging the essential role McConnell has played in shaping today’s Court. The GOP Moderates-When the cards were down, the GOP moderates helped push Trump’s nominees through with razor-thin majorities. The Bush Family-While the Trump era Supreme Court nominees were essential to overturning Roe v. Wade, the Bush family was responsible for appointing two other conservatives: Justice Clarence Thomas and Justice Samuel Alito.

The Caleb Williams saga is going to be one that we're going to get tired of quickly. It's a unique situation. As long as Williams stays healthy and doesn't completely shit the bed, he will go number one in next year's draft. He's already got a Heisman Trophy, and now it seems like he's making demands. About a month back, it was reported that Williams would consider staying in college if the Cardinals ended up with the number one overall pick. I think that's such an insane thing to entertain. It was like the first week of the season, why...

There have been increasing exchanges of fire on Israel’s border with Lebanon, where Hezbollah has been firing at Israelis and Israel firing back. While several people have been killed on each side, it has not as of this writing broken out into a full war. That could change at any moment. If that happens, expect thousands of heavy and guilded missiles to be fired by Hezbollah at Israel, and heavy Israeli air and missile attacks on Hezbollah and the rest of Lebanon. Expect also a land invasion by Hezbollah, which has been very openly touting its capabilities to grab and...

Republican Jim Jordan gained momentum toward becoming the next speaker of the House on Monday, helped along by a strategy that has never before been used to win a leadership post in Congress. In a position usually decided behind closed doors, the Ohio congressman has instead invited public pressure on Republican lawmakers from right-wing media figures. It is “the threat of the conservative media ecosystem coming crashing down on them,” Brendan Buck, who was a top adviser to former Speaker Paul Ryan, told Yahoo News.Trepidation about that threat seemed on Monday to have helped Jordan get to the verge of winning the...

On this date in 1940, Hans Vollenweider became the last person executed in Switzerland. The Swiss had long experience with executions by beheading and, of course, with mechanical refinements, so adoption of the guillotine was a natural fit … especially after Napoleon overran Switzerland. Actually, Switzerland had experimented with guillotine-like machines centuries before the French introduced the device, but in the 19th century its Jacobin associations led to a running tug-of-war that saw some cantons abolish the guillotine (German link) in favor of a return to public beheading with a sword. At the same time, the pan-European move away from...

Hundreds rioted outside the Israeli embassy in Amman, Jordan this evening (Tuesday) following the explosion at a Gaza hospital that Hamas blamed on an Israeli airstrike. Dozens of rioters even attempted to storm the embassy. Hamas has claimed that 500 people were killed in the explosion. The IDF has stated that it is investigating the blast and reiterated that it does not deliberately strike hospitals. The possibility that the blast was caused by a misfired Hamas rocket, many of which have been known to fall short and land in Gaza, is being investigated. An Israeli source later confirmed that "unequivocally,...

To paraphrase Paul Revere And The Raiders, “Mortgages keep getting harder to find.” Mortgage applications decreased 6.9 percent from one week earlier, according to data from the Mortgage Bankers Association’s (MBA) Weekly Mortgage Applications Survey for the week ending October 13, 2023. Applications decreased to their lowest level since 1995, as the 30-year fixed mortgage rate increased for the sixth consecutive week to 7.70 percent – the highest level since November 2000.
