Some people may say you never know what the left will get angry about, but in truth, they're pretty predictable. For instance, if you see something wholesome that involves a homogeneously racial family...get ready. Case in point: Some McDonald's ads out of Japan have been causing some on the left to absolutely lose it. The ads are relatively wholesome and, for the most part, are receiving wide praise from American audiences for their focus on sweet emotions and solid animation. Take this one, for instance: This commercial features a girl and a chair that had come to life. The girl...

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was left unimpressed by the bright color pallet used in the design of the UN General Assembly’s meeting hall, suggesting that it looked too similar to the LGBTQ rainbow pride flag. “One of the issues that bothers me the most ... is that when entering the United Nations General Assembly, you see the LGBT colors on steps and other places,” Erdogan told journalists at the Turkish House in New York on Friday, as quoted by the newspaper Duvar. “How many LGBT [people] are there in the world right now? However, much right they have on...

Horror can make us blind to doubt. For years I angrily scorned Chris Mullin's campaign for the release of the Birmingham Six, Irishmen wrongly convicted of the 1974 IRA bombings in that city. I was so furious about the filthy cruelty of the crime that I could not see straight about the weakness of the prosecution. I apologise to Mr Mullin, and learned from him that our justice system is not as good as we like to think. So now I must ask: What if Lucy Letby is not guilty? Actually I very much wish somebody else in the national...

The East Village has gone south. Residents and retailers in the liberal Manhattan bastion are fed up with its ever-growing population of unhinged vagrants, random street crime — and the city’s laissez-faire attitude toward both. The Ninth Precinct, which spans from East 14th Street to Houston Street, has seen an 17% spike in felony assault, an 7% jump in rape, and a 7% increase in grand larceny auto so far this year when compared 2022’s year-to-date numbers, police data shows.

Climate change alarmist and former United States Vice President Al Gore has blasted the fossil fuel industry, accusing oil and gas companies of “using the atmosphere as an open sewer.” Mr. Gore, whose climate rants have grown progressively more unhinged, said this week that fossil fuel companies are “digging and drilling and pumping up the fossilized remains of dead animals and plants and burning them in ways that use the atmosphere as an open sewer, threatening the future of humanity.”

Luke 8:4-15 Friends, in today’s Gospel, Jesus explains the purpose of the parables: “Knowledge of the mysteries of the Kingdom of God has been granted to you; but to the rest, they are made known through parables so that they may look but not see, and hear but not understand.”The use of the word “para” in the New Testament signals the failure to see at various levels. The great metaphor here is the blindness of the Jews, a blindness which is identified with disobedience. The parables of Christ are meant to highlight and point out this blindness, this willful refusal to...

The American Dream Mall, New Jersey’s behemoth shopping destination located in the Meadowlands, saw its losses quadruple in 2022 to $245 million as it struggled to attract retail tenants amid sagging customer traffic and expenses soared amid a heavy debt load, according to recent filings. In the years since its opening just five months before the pandemic struck in 2020, the 3.5 million-square-foot mall — which is home to an indoor ski slope, the Nickelodeon Universe Theme Park, and a whopping 450-plus stores — hasn’t caught a break. Aside from coronavirus-driven shutdowns and construction delays, the mall has been slammed...

Early morning on Sunday, Sept. 24, the OSIRIS-REx spacecraft’s sample capsule will come face-to-face with Earth’s atmosphere for the first time since the mission’s 2016 launch. On board are an estimated 8.8 ounces, or 250 grams, of rocky material collected from the surface of Bennu in 2020 – NASA’s first asteroid sample and the largest ever collected in space. When it approaches Earth, the OSIRIS-REx spacecraft won’t slow down as it makes its sample drop-off. Instead, when it reaches 63,000 miles (or 102,000 kilometers) above Earth’s surface – about one-third the distance from Earth to the Moon – a message...

ON PRAYER The Sacred Scriptures urge us to pray always. That seems impossible at first sight; you can't spend your life on your knees. But people pray in many ways. Physical positions and movements, the lotus position for Buddhists, kneeling and folding hands for many Christian faith groups are prayer. Any attention paid to God is prayer. Whether or not any words are spoken, the actions themselves express awareness of, and communication with, God. As St. Teresa of Avila put it, way back in the 16th century, "For though we are always in the presence of God, it seems...

In an apparent example of interspecies compassion, a group of crocodiles appeared to usher a dog to safety after it fell into a dangerous river. The dog, believed to be a stray, was being chased by a pack of other feral canines when it jumped into the River Savirtri in India out of harm’s way, or so it thought. But the river was infested by local mugger crocodiles, and three of them were floating near the stray. This should have been the end of the helpless pup, with the crocs being “well within the striking range,” according to a report...

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said Saturday he will not remove funding for Ukraine from a Pentagon spending package, contradicting his stance from the day before. McCarthy told reporters at the Capitol that he made the decision to keep the $300 million of Ukraine aid in the bill after recognizing that another spending measure set to come up next week that funds the State Department and Foreign Operations, also includes funds for Ukraine, according to The Hill. The package has already twice failed in a procedural vote due to internal Republican opposition. McCarthy explained that removing the Ukraine aid out of...

A leaked Department of Veteran Affairs video showed efforts to promote abortions and more "medically accurate" terminology such as "person who is pregnant" over pregnant women. A "Reproductive Health Training" video from April 2023 advised staffers on how to counsel veterans considering abortion. Before discussing counseling procedures, the video began with a "note" on language that clarified, "Not all people who seek abortions identify as women." Another note read, "’Person who is pregnant’ is inclusive and preferred to ‘pregnant woman.’" "When ‘women’ is used in this presentation series, it’s because the studies cited only included ciswomen," the video also stated....

This summer, the Daughters of the American Revolution changed its bylaws to allow men who identify as women to join the all-female historical society, angering some of its members. DAR leaders passed an amendment stating that membership cannot be denied due to “[characteristics] protected by applicable law,” according to Newsweek. DAR president general Pamela Wright clarified during the organization’s annual meeting in June that men who have their birth certificates altered to indicate that they are female are eligible for membership. The new amendment also revoked the right of local chapters to decide if an applicant is “personally acceptable” for...
