Democrats in the state of California continue to double down on their support for transgenderism, and have now introduced legislation that would forbid parents from even seeing their child if they do not support the child’s “gender identity.” As reported by the Washington Free Beacon, Democrats in the state legislature have introduced two new bills, both of which would change California family law by making “gender affirmation” a part of children’s health, safety, and welfare. The first bill would grant judges the authority to take away custody from parents who do not “affirm” their child’s gender identity, while the second...

Teachers in Portland, Ore., are on track to strike if their school district refuses to provide subsidized housing for poor public school students and lobby for expanded rent control, an approach that has led to school shutdowns in other liberal cities as powerful teachers' unions pursue left-wing priorities. After months of negotiations with Portland Public Schools, the Portland Association of Teachers on August 22 warned its members they "may be heading towards a strike," citing the district's failure to agree on a "transformative contract." Included in the impasse is a union proposal to create a district-led subsidized housing initiative, which...

In the year 2000, Sun Microsystems cofounder Bill Joy wrote an essay provocatively titled “Why the Future Doesn’t Need Us.” Despite being published April 1, it was no joke; and despite its 11,000-word length, it would go viral. The reason why was encapsulated in its subhead. To wit:“Our most powerful 21st-century technologies — robotics, genetic engineering, and nanotech — are threatening to make humans an endangered species.”

Don’t look now, but Hillary Clinton is still lurking in the weeds, waiting for Joe Biden to stumble. Literally. The former Secretary of State insists she’s not running for president again, but has offered only a tepid endorsement of Biden while raising questions about his age. “I obviously hope he stays very focused and is able to compete in the election,” Clinton said condescendingly of the 80-year-old President. “Because I think he can be re-elected and that’s what we should all hope for.” But Clinton even agreed that falling is a potential health risk for Biden, and did not dismiss...

Second Judicial District Attorney Sam Bregman said the justice system’s current approach to prosecuting shoplifting cases isn’t working, so his office is going to change its approach. Bregman on Tuesday announced that his office has started prosecuting all shoplifting cases, including misdemeanors, which began at the start of the month. With these attorneys now handling shoplifting cases, the plan will free up more officers who were previously having to prosecute shoplifting cases themselves. According to a news release from Bregman’s office, 40 to 70 misdemeanor shoplifting cases are going go through Metropolitan Court every month. “Residents of Bernalillo County have...

Bank of China (BOC), one of China's four biggest state-owned commercial banks, opened its first branch in Riyadh, capital of Saudi Arabia, which will further expand the use of the yuan in finance and trade. Experts noted that since the BRICS Summit, members of the bloc have been accelerating the use of local currency settlements in cross-border trade to reduce reliance on the US dollar. The Chinese currency is playing an increasingly important role in facilitating trade and improving efficiency among the BRICS countries, they said. According to an announcement published by the BOC on Wednesday, the bank opened the...

If you are an infectious disease expert and you feel ill what should you do?Most of us who aren’t infectious disease experts would call in sick, brew a cup of tea, heat up some chicken soup, and do whatever the 21st-century equivalent is of watching game shows on TV.But if you are Kent Sepkowitz, an infectious disease expert at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, you desperately search for a COVID antigen test at home, and when you can’t find one you go on a trek to multiple drug stores to gather up multiples of them to serially...

President Joe Biden presents retired Army Capt. Larry Taylor with the Medal of Honor. September 5, 2023 A long overdue ceremony was held yesterday for retired Army Captain Larry Taylor, a Vietnam war veteran who earned the Medal of Honor. He received his award yesterday from President Joe Biden, but as with most normal functions of the White House during this presidency, the event didn’t go off without a few hitches and controversies. The first of these was the fact that First Lady Jill Biden tested positive for COVID yesterday for the third time, despite having received all of...

A national Jewish advocacy organization is calling for the removal of a monument to Nazi collaborators in Montgomery County, just outside of Philadelphia, that until recently went largely unnoticed for decades. The large stone cross, which was the subject of an Inquirer article published Sunday, was erected about 30 years ago at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery in Elkins Park in honor of the 14th Waffen Grenadier Division of the Schutzstaffel — the Nazi military branch often referred to simply as “the SS.” The unit, known also as the “1st Galician” or “SS Galizien,” was formed in 1943. It was...

The Bidens have always maintained they did not coordinate, mix or discuss personal and government business activities, but evidence in the Archives conflicts with that claim. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ House Oversight and Accountability Chairman James Comer pressed Wednesday for deeper access to records in the Biden family probe held by the National Archives, while pointedly warning that America's historical agency is threatening to withhold some evidence as "personal." Comer made the revelation in a letter to Archivist Colleen Shogan that requested unrestricted access to a collection of memos the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) has released in redacted form titled “Records...

Ukrainian first lady Olena Zelenska is warning of the world growing complacent as her country presses on in its fight against Russian invaders. Zelenska sat down for an interview with ABC News and said she was concerned global attention is turning away from Ukraine. “We see that sometimes people become reluctant,” Zelenska said. “People talk about ‘Ukraine fatigue.’ This is talk of our existence. We can’t stop fighting for ourselves.” “So my message is: Please don’t stop to help us fight,” she continued. Asked whether she feels the world’s focus is drifting elsewhere, Zelenska said, “I’m afraid of it, but...

KEY POINTS:* Moderna’s new Covid vaccine generated a strong immune response against BA.2.86, a highly mutated omicron variant that health officials are watching closely, according to clinical trial data the biotech company released Wednesday. *Moderna, Pfizer and Novavax are slated to roll out new vaccines targeting another omicron strain, pending potential approvals from the FDA. * Moderna’s new trial results suggest that the company’s jab will still be effective against newer variants of the virus, even as XBB.1.5 declines nationwide. The online job search company Indeed is offering transgender employees and their families who want to relocate for access to sex-change procedures and drugs $10,000 to cover expenses. The policy applies to U.S. employees and immediate family members seeking sex-mutilating surgeries, cross-sex hormones, and puberty blockers but who live in states with laws that criminalize or restrict such procedures. The policy also applies to those who live in places that protect children...

proclaimed Marxist lesbian CUNY librarian who was elected president of the American Library Association? Remember, too, how the editor-in-chief of a Montana newspaper chided Drabinski’s critics, saying they assume her political beliefs will “guide her every action”? Well, last week an intrepid independent journalist attended “Socialism 2023,” the “largest socialist conference in the country,” and discovered that’s just what Drabinski wishes to do. She said so herself. According to Karlyn Borysenko at Actively Unwoke, Drabinski was scheduled to give a talk at the conference (pictured), but due to apparent ongoing controversies over her Marxist leanings it was “quietly canceled.” Nevertheless,...

You might be surprised to learn that Mississippi, the poorest state in the US, is now wealthier than Britain. Mississippi’s GDP per capita last year was $47,190, slightly above the UK’s approximately $45,000, though still well below the overall American average of $70,000. While the UK’s per capita GDP has stagnated for the past 15 years, Mississippi’s has been rising rapidly to the point that it has just overtaken us.
