Tech news magazine Wired published a story, and made it an editor's pick, on Thursday that claimed it was "immoral" to want children who share one's genetic makeup and claimed that reducing biologism could be a way to "push back against the biological essentialism built into white supremacy." In the intro, the author rejects the notion that having a biological child creates a hardwired relationship and bond between the parent and child, and that "this prioritization of biological inheritance ('biologism,' as some call it) has recently become unsettled." Writer Leo Kim said that due to the advancement in modern practices...

Explanation: These cosmic clouds have blossomed 1,300 light-years away in the fertile starfields of the constellation Cepheus. Called the Iris Nebula, NGC 7023 is not the only nebula to evoke the imagery of flowers. Still, this deep telescopic image shows off the Iris Nebula's range of colors and symmetries embedded in surrounding fields of interstellar dust. Within the Iris itself, dusty nebular material surrounds a hot, young star. The dominant color of the brighter reflection nebula is blue, characteristic of dust grains reflecting starlight. Central filaments of the reflection nebula glow with a faint reddish photoluminescence as some dust grains...

A new disturbing video has emerged of Amazon Alexa purportedly telling a man that there will not be a 2024 election because the “War Powers Act of 1973” will be invoked. In a video posted to X, formerly known as Twitter, by Conservative influencer account Chuck Callesto, the man asks Alexa, “Alexa, who will win the next American election?” Alexa responds, “The 2024 American election will not take place, here will be no winner, the War Powers Resolution of 1973, or the War Powers Act, will be invoked by the act of war with Russia and China. Alexa continued, “Once...

An updated COVID vaccine will be available soon, but certain groups may benefit more than othersAs the summer winds to a close, and we reluctantly trade beach days and late sunsets for cooler weather and school or work, we also have to confront the reality that COVID will remain a part of our lives. The U.S. has already seen a summer bump in cases in recent weeks, with hospitalizations andwastewater levels of the virus creeping back up. So many people may be wondering when they can get another COVID vaccine. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the updated...

A federal appeals court on Friday gave three doctors the green light to pursue their lawsuit against the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) over using ivermectin off-label to treat COVID-19. Just weeks after hearing the case, the 5th Circuit reversed a district court’s dismissal on the grounds that the FDA has sovereign immunity. (The decision is at the bottom for paid subscribers to read.) The ruling was written by U.S. Circuit Judge Don Willett, a Pres. Donald Trump appointee. He pointed to the FDA’s social media posts (below) about ivermectin that made it seem the medication was for farm animals.

During a portion of an interview with CBS News aired on Friday’s broadcast of “CBS Evening News,” Hawaii Gov. Josh Green (D) stated that the fires in Hawaii were “A tragic natural disaster,” and that “if other decisions were made, it is possible that we wouldn’t have had such loss.” But he doesn’t want to say officials were asleep at the wheel or if Maui County Mayor Richard Bissen should resign because “we should really get to all of the facts,” and deciding to resign “is a deeply personal discussion for any Mayor and his or her constituents to have.”...

He is the wanted poster boy for the migrant crisis. A man who arrived in New York City two months ago from Venezuela has randomly attacked at least three strangers and two cops, and gotten arrested – and released – six times on 14 different charges, police and sources said. Daniel Hernandez Martinez, 29, arrived on June 27 and allegedly committed his first crime the following day. “He’s been wreaking havoc,” a cop with more than 20 years on the job said. “This is not an isolated incident. These migrants are getting arrested quite often here, and we really don’t...

European countries are buying more liquified natural gas from Russia than they did before its full-scale invasion of Ukraine last year, revealing a weak spot in the energy sanctions targeting Russia that is unlikely to be resolved anytime soon. In the first six months of 2023, EU countries bought 40% more Russian LNG than they did in 2021, amounting to $5.7 billion in revenue for Russia, according to an analysis this week by the advocacy group Global Witness. This makes Europe the biggest customer for Russian LNG; only the U.S. sells more LNG to the bloc. After the invasion, European...

What is the Cloward–Piven strategy? The Cloward–Piven strategy was developed in 1966 by Americans Richard Cloward and Frances Fox Piven - both sociologists and political activists. The Cloward–Piven strategy focused on overloading the United States public welfare system in order to precipitate a crisis, which would ultimately lead to replacing the welfare system with a national system of "a guaranteed annual income and thus an end to poverty". An ancillary consequence of the strategy includes shoring up of the Democratic Party, which at the time was splintered by pluralistic interests. Another side effect would be relieving local and state governments...

At the age of 97, David Attenborough could be forgiven for wanting to put his feet up in front of the fire. Instead, the 97-year-old revered presenter has signed up to present the third series of Planet Earth. The Guardian newspaper reports that Attenborough has already begun filming the new series of the BBC’s award-winning natural history programme, expected to air later this year on BBC One. The decision provides important protection for property rights, and features a powerful concurring opinion by prominent conservative Judge Amal Thapar. In many states, asset forfeiture laws allow law enforcement agencies to seize valuable property based on mere suspicion that it was used in a crime, and then keep it even if the owner was never convicted of any crime. On top of that, some force owners to wait many months before they even have a chance to challenge the forfeiture in a hearing. Yesterday, in Ingram v. Wayne County, the US Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit issued a...

A spate of cultural vandalism continued earlier this year when part of a buried Stone Age monument in Wales was crudely excavated and left to the elements. Julian Baker, a 52-year-old man from Abertridwr, Caerphilly, filmed himself unearthing the 4,500-year-old relic on Eglwysilan mountain and posted the video to Facebook, according to local heritage officials. In a first prosecution of its sort in Wales, Baker has been ordered to pay £4,400 (roughly $5,600) for its restoration. Additionally, he was given a four-month custodial sentence, suspended for two years, at the Magistrates Court in Wales, according to the BBC. Ancient Roman...
