Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, on Wednesday released an FBI document that House GOP members have long been seeking -- FBI Director Christopher Wray was even threatened with a contempt-of-Congress for not sharing it. The Federal Document 1023 was released Thursday only lightly redacted after Grassley acquired it through legally protected disclosures by Justice Department whistleblowers. "For the better part of a year, I've been pushing the Justice Department and FBI to provide details on its handling of very significant allegations from a trusted FBI informant implicating then-Vice President Biden in a criminal bribery scheme," Grassley wrote in a statement. "While...

Friends, in today’s Gospel, the Lord offers to relieve us of our burdens. He is identifying everyone who feels oppressed by the world: by sin, worries, suffering, injustice, the death of a relative or friend, the fear of death—whatever it may be.Relief comes when we submit to his kingship, his new way of ordering things. We are meant to imagine ourselves as pack animals who have been tied under a yoke and are under the command of a farmer. It seems rather demeaning, but this is what submission to Christ’s lordship looks like: we serve his purposes and go where...

Inflation fell again in June according to a Bureau of Labor Statistics’ report on July 12. That’s good news but more important for the country’s future is the Bureau of Economic Analysis release on June 29 of its monthly report on the Gross Domestic Product. Two data series in that report, both dealing with investment, should be getting more attention as inflation recedes because investment driven growth is what the country needs. The two BEA data series covering investment are 1) Gross Private Domestic Investment and 2) Government Gross Investment by the Federal, State, and local governments. They tell us...

Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) on Thursday denied making a promise to former President Trump that the House would vote to expunge his impeachments, shooting down a report that said the GOP leader pledged the vote as a way to temper tensions with the former president. “There’s no deal,” McCarthy told reporters Thursday, “but I’ve been very clear from long before when I voted against impeachments that they did it for purely political purposes.” “I support expungement but there’s no deal out there,” he added. Those comments contradict a Thursday morning report from Politico Playbook that McCarthy assured Trump that the...

[Catholic Caucus] Latin and Liturgical ParticipationWhen told his movie The Producers was vulgar, Mel Brooks quipped “It rises beneath vulgarity.” That anecdote came to mind in reference to one of the most telling attempts to defend the restrictions placed on the Tridentine Mass over the past two years—an attempt which rose beneath ignorance to reveal that the foundation of the anti-Tridentine position is incompatible with Catholic dogma. In their now-notorious series of articles, Father Thomas Weinandy, John Cavadini and Mary Healy gave the game away in two simple sentences: “Without the vernacular, the active, vocal, intelligible participation [making responses together with...

While just 7% of Americans are LGBTQ+, students at Ivy League universities are identifying as non-straight at rates as much as five times the general public. Brown University made headlines after a student poll revealed a whopping 38% of their student body is not straight. “Honestly I’m not surprised by that statistic,” an anonymous senior at Brown University told The Post. “At Brown, there’s no social pressure to fit into a box or hide your identity.” Other Ivies aren’t far behind. In fact, more than a third of students at Princeton and more than a quarter at Yale and Harvard...

As supporters of HD 4420 try to rally their fellow lawmakers behind a plan to hurriedly enact the sweeping gun control bill into law before the end of the month, Massachusetts’ Gun Owners Action League has released a detailed response to what its labeled the “Lawful Citizens Imprisonment Act.” In a sign of just how terrible this legislation truly is, GOAL’s markup of the bill stretches to nine pages, and the group acknowledges at the outset that it “by no means represents the entirety of the concerns of Gun Owners’ Action League or the Second Amendment community,” and is instead...

Qualified Immunity is a controversial legal principle that “protects a government official from lawsuits alleging that the official violated a plaintiff’s rights, only allowing suits where officials violated a ‘clearly established’ statutory or constitutional right.” The bottom line for those of us who believe in civil liberties is that Qualified Immunity makes it very difficult to hold public officials accountable, especially police officers even in cases of horrific brutality, and it’s grating to think that this doctrine was invented by the Supreme Court in 1967. There’s a tension between the Bill of Rights, especially the Second Amendment, and Qualified Immunity....

GOP LA Senator John Kennedy Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) stated that he thinks the Justice Department will do “whatever they can to make sure that President Trump is the nominee, because that’s who President Biden wants.” And Biden “thinks President Trump is the only person he can beat.” Kennedy said, “I don’t know what the facts are. I haven’t seen the indictment yet. I will say, in terms of the politics — and this is the cynical point of view — but I think some Americans are drawing this conclusion, that President Biden and President Trump have a co-dependency, President...

Pick up your favorite flavor to savor! #NationalLollipopDay Ever delightful and sweet, lollipops have satisfied generations of sweet tooths. And it’s possible they’ve been doing that for centuries. Rotterdam, New York – The ongoing migrant crisis brewing in New York State appears to have worsened after long-term residents and guests of a Super 8 motel were kicked from their rooms on Tuesday. The sudden evictions, according to a County official, were conducted to make room for “busloads” of third-world migrants being resettled from New York City. According to reports, the Super 8 Motel near Fort Hunter Park in Schenectady County, abruptly demanded that all its guests and long-term residents check out of their rooms, leaving some with little to no time to find a place to stay. The...
