Neoliberalism is out and neo-mercantilism in as US decoupling from China abandons adherence to rules-based, free market trade Speaking at the Brookings Institution in April 2023, US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan declared national security and industrial policy as the guiding lights for US trade. Sullivan couched his prescriptions in soft tones and catchy phrases. “Decoupling” is out, “de-risking” is in. The goal is to “forge a new consensus” — something different to the market-oriented Washington Consensus of yesteryear. National security restrictions have their limits set in a “small yard, high fence.” US security is not trying to engage in...

Jen is quoted saying that the dollar suffered a “stunning collapse” in its market share as a reserve currency in 2022, “presumably due to its muscular use of sanctions.” He calculates that the dollar’s share of official global reserves fell to 47% last year, down from 55% in 2021 and a marked collapse from the 73% in 2001. Its loss of market share...

The next, the neighbor is calling the police because you are violating the lockdown.

Andre Smith, 55, described the situation in Chicago as a 'mess' and demanded that city officials temporarily pause the sanctuary status of the city, which has been overwhelmed with over 10,000 migrants since August. 'It's just a mess here,' he told Fox & Friends Weekend on Saturday. 'We have in Chicago $160 million that was spent for the migrants with no records, no plan. And now we're fixing to spend $51...

The New York Times is facing ridicule on Twitter after an article Sunday painted President Joe Biden’s old age in a positive light, describing the 80-year-old president as "sharp," "fit" and having "striking stamina." The Times article, written by White House reporters Peter Baker, Michael Shear, Katie Rogers and Zolan Kanno-Youngs, titled "Inside the Complicated Reality of Being America’s Oldest President," claimed Biden’s aides have been purposely limiting his exposure to the media to avoid any potential gaffes. "The two Joe Bidens coexist in the same octogenarian president: Sharp and wise at critical moments, the product of decades of seasoning,...

Recently, the White House decided that appointing an unqualified, politicized leader is perfect for tackling the complex issue of AI regulation. Kamala Harris, who has now become the AI czar, will likely lead America into a very gloomy future. The nation must correct this blunder before it’s too late. We can only solve a problem by asking the right questions and Harris and the polarized Congress are clearly unable to do so. The United States must replace her with an unbiased committee of experts who can protect and fully develop effective AI regulations. It should also shield decisions moving forward...

Beyond that, a strange powdery substance covering the area left them stumped...The team assumed, at first, the material was simply ash. After all, charred remnants of the building’s reed roof and wooden beams indicated it had met its end in a fire...The powder wasn’t ash, but wheat flour. They had unearthed an ancient bakery.Archaeologists estimate that the structure could have once held as much as 3.5 tons of...

A woman imprisoned for 20 years over the deaths of her four children was pardoned by Australia's New South Wales state on Monday (Jun 5) after a judicial review found there was reasonable doubt about the original convictions. Kathleen Megan Folbigg was convicted in 2003 for the murder of her three children and manslaughter of her fourth. Folbigg maintained her innocence and said the children had died of natural causes. An initial inquiry in 2019 found the evidence reinforced Folbigg's guilt. However a second inquiry led by former chief justice Thomas Bathurst revisited her convictions in 2022 after new evidence...
