Imagine Earth's surface is like a stack of pancakes. The pancakes, or layers of soil and rocks, may appear fairly evenly stacked and fluffy. Over time though, the stack can become compressed, thinner and shorter. Scientists observe this downward motion of land, called land subsidence, across the planet. While some regions of land experience uplift, many parts of Earth's surface are sinking - fast. Scientists are especially concerned for sinking locations near the coast, which are at a higher risk for flooding as sea levels rise in a warming world. Hurricanes and extreme rainfall events can also bring more damage...

Archaeologists in Jordan and Saudi Arabia have found what they believe to be by far the world’s oldest to-scale architectural renditions. The stone engravings, which were made between 7,000 and 9,000 years ago, represent “desert kites,” landscape-scale traps built by early humans to hunt herd animals. The engravings show the Neolithic structures, which the authors say were probably crucially important to the societies that built them, with the kind of precision that would normally only be possible from the air. Both objects were found in 2015 and a study of them was published this month in the journal PLoS ONE....

The legion was centrally involved in the Great Jewish Revolt (AD 66–73), the first of three major rebellions by the Jews against the Roman Empire. Around AD 70, most of Roman rule was restored in Judea except for several fortresses and Jerusalem. After several battles, Jerusalem and the Second Temple was destroyed, with contemporary historian, Titus Flavius Josephus,...

Inmate voting, noncitizen voting, and even mandatory voting have been among the initiatives pushed in Democrat-led jurisdictions this year to expand their voting base. “The Left wants to normalize voter classes that nobody took seriously a generation ago—criminals, foreigners—to help them win elections,” J. Christian Adams, president of the Public Interest Legal Foundation, an election integrity group, told The Daily Signal. As I noted in my book “The Myth of Voter Suppression,” Democrats long have sought to change election laws to gain a political advantage. The nation’s capital, the District of Columbia, adopted noncitizen voting this year for local elections...

Some masking and testing precautions are back in place at the State Capitol Building as positive COVID-19 cases escalate. Going forward, all visitors and guests must mask up in the common areas on the third floor of the State Capitol and in the Senate Gallery....

VIDEOThis is not meant to be a criticism of comedian Tyler Fischer since I am a big fan of his stuff. However, he should have skipped trying to a parody of the recent North Face commercial. Why? Because it is IMPOSSIBLE to parody since it is so over the top that any attempt to parody it falls flat in comparison. The best material for parody is taking absurd situations in which someone attempts to be serious. A great example was the ad for Viagra that Bob Dole did in 1998. Somehow there is something inherently HILARIOUS about a prominent Republican...

ABC legal analyst Sunny Hostin told her co-hosts Tuesday on ABC’s “The View” that white female Republicans “fall in line” to “protect the patriarchy.” Hostin said, “I have a similar theory. it’s born out when you look at the studies, read books like a book that came out a long time ago about she owned property as well, meaning white women owned slaves as well. I think that women, white women in particular, want to protect this patriarchy here, because it’s to their benefit. They want to make sure their husbands do well. They want to make sure their sons...
