Pregnant persons should dim the lights in their home and turn off or at least dim their screens (computer monitors and smartphones) a few hours before bedtime to reduce the risk of gestational diabetes mellitus, a new study shows. Women who developed gestational diabetes mellitus in the multi-site study had greater light exposure in the three hours before sleep onset. They did not differ in their light exposure during daytime or sleep or in their activity levels compared to those who did not develop it. The Federal Reserve is some hard thinking to do. Inflation came in hotter than expected, so raise rates to fight inflation or lower rates to prevent bank contagion. Similar to Kevin Malone’s “Double fudge brownies or Angela” debate. While headline inflation (CPI) came in a 6% (considerably higher than The Fed’s 2% target), core inflation came in at 5.5% year-over-year (YoY), which was expected. The truly nasty number is today’s inflation report is that weekly earnings YoY remained the same at a terrible -1.9%. Meaning that inflation is higher than nominal wage growth. This is the 23rd straight month of...

Additionally, it could lead to better treatment options for other types of cancer, including those affecting the breast, skin, and pancreas. By inhibiting one enzyme, scientists from Sanford Burnham Prebys can kill prostate cancer cells when other treatments can’t. For the first time, researchers have discovered that prostate cancer can be killed by targeting a single enzyme, called PI5P4Kα. The findings, published recently in...

(Daily readings from the USCCB)Peter approached Jesus and asked him, “Lord, if my brother sins against me, how often must I forgive him? As many as seven times?” Jesus answered, “I say to you, not seven times but seventy-seven times.” Matthew 18:21–22Forgiveness of another is difficult. It’s much easier to remain angry.
