Three women have filed a class-action lawsuit against a Christian school and affiliated church in Canada, alleging that a former Sunday school teacher abused them in the 1990s and that administrator covered it up. The women claim that administrators at Christian Centre Academy and Saskatoon Christian Centre church, now known as Legacy Christian Academy and Mile Two Church, knew about alleged abuse that they claim was done to them by a former school employee, Nathan Schultz. Schultz is one of the over 20 defendants named in the proposed $25-million class-action lawsuit claiming that multiple officials at Christian Centre Academy and...

Col. Thomas Hansford was hanged “a loyal subject and a lover of my country” on this date in 1676 — America’s first executed political martyr, since that “country” was not England, but Virginia. Robert Beverly‘s 1705 History of Virginia recalls the genesis of that milestone dispute between settlers and mother England. The occasion of this rebellion is not easy to be discovered: but ’tis certain there were many things that concurred towards it. For it cannot be imagined, that upon the instigation of two or three traders only, who aimed at a monopoly of the Indian trade, as some pretend...

Former New York Gov. George Pataki (R) on Sunday said former President Trump is “tearing apart the Republican party” after the GOP failed to win control of the Senate and underperformed in races across the country. “The problem is Donald Trump. The sooner he goes away, the quicker we will have the new Republican Party,” Pataki told Eric Shawn on Fox News. “He’s had his time and now he is tearing apart the Republican Party since the election.”

Pennsylvania state Sen. Doug Mastriano (R) conceded to Gov.-elect Josh Shapiro (D) on Sunday in the state’s gubernatorial race, five days after news outlets called the race against him. “Difficult to accept as the results are, there is no right course but to concede, which I do, and I look to the challenges ahead. Josh Shapiro will be our next Governor, and I ask everyone to give him the opportunity to lead and pray that he leads well,” Mastriano said in a statement.

I believe this was actually announced a while back, but I really don't keep up on some things very well.I thought I'd share. From the Baen website: It is with a heavy heart that we share the news that Eric Flint has passed away. We were proud to publish Eric’s first novel, Mother of Demons, in 1997, and to continue publishing his many worlds, including the best-selling Ring of Fire series that started with 1632. There are several of Eric’s works already delivered and on the schedule. Eric was a tireless collaborator, and readers can also expect more of his...

The time has come to “move on” from President Joe Biden, according to a recent Salon piece that argues the president served as a “drag” on Democrats during last week’s midterm election and that Democrats won in the midterm elections “despite Biden, not because of him,” adding that a 2024 presidential run by Biden would be a complete “disaster.” The Saturday essay — titled “Biden was a drag on the Democrats in the midterms: He’d be a disaster in 2024” — was penned by frequent Salon contributor Norman Solomon, who founded the Institute for Public Accuracy (IPA), which is reportedly...

It's for an uninsulated hunting cabin with a hot water heater, indoor plumbing, etc. I was thinking one for the kitchen and one for the hot water heater. But I'm getting the impression they all shut off after a few hours. I need them to stay on all the time during extreme cold. To backup the propane heaters. thanx

It’s been hilarious watching the left have a meltdown about Elon Musk taking over Twitter and bringing in a lot of changes. One of the things that he seems intent on doing is making the company a more viable and efficient workplace. I wrote last month about how it was more like a spa at the headquarters than a work environment, where people could work remotely if they chose to but if they came in they had meditation rooms, yoga areas, free food, and red wine on tap. ... That’s likely one of the reasons that the company wasn’t making...

Lamenting the reality the Senate will remain in Democrats' control for the next two years, Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., is calling for an overhaul of the establishment Republican Party in Washington, D.C. "The old party is dead," Hawley tweeted Saturday night. "Time to bury it. Build something new." Hawley was reacting to the news Republican Adam Laxalt's votes have been overtaken by Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto, D-Nev., clinching the Senate majority for Democrats. "Washington Republicanism lost big Tuesday night," Hawley tweeted earlier this week. "When your 'agenda' is to cave to Big Pharma on insulin, cave to Schumer on gun...

In this post and its links, you can see footage of a man being punched by a police officer on the steps of Victoria's State Parliament until the man subdued the police officer with a headlock. Then another police officer comes in and assaults angry protestors with pepper spray. I believe that the violence was initiated by police. I think the primary problem here is corrupt leadership in both government and the police force and inexperience and lack of emotional control at times by a few protestors and a few police. But losing control in protesting is a right which...

Writing in The Atlantic on October 31, Brown University economist Emily Oster penned a pre-emptive plea for amnesty for Covid-policy hardliners. Why? Because they were all well-intentioned and their pronouncements rested on benign ignorance. Judging by the numerous responses in print and social media and online commentary, the viral article lit the fuse on widespread, simmering but still raw anger. To many it suggests the lockdown zealots are incapable of introspection, of accepting culpability. Instead, they just want to move on to the next excuse to unleash blanket authoritarian control all over again. Jessica Hockett has coined the word “Osterism”...

As FTX Digital Markets (FDM) chief Sam Bankman-Fried rang out a mea culpa chorus peppered with expletives to his followers, clients and investors through Twitter yesterday, the Securities Commission of The Bahamas (SCB) froze his company’s assets and appointed a provisional liquidator for the embattled FTX now making international headlines. The SCB released a statement late yesterday explaining that it became aware of public statements suggesting that the Bahamas-headquartered FTX mishandled client assets and “mismanaged and/or transferred (assets) to Alameda Research”, which is FTX’s supposed “sister” company in the United States. It said any of those actions would have been...

Earlier this month, former President Trump said that Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) should be impeached if he backs a plan for the debt ceiling to be eliminated over fears that House Republicans could cause the U.S. to default on the nation’s credit. When asked by conservative radio host John Fredericks about chatter surrounding the possibility of Congress effectively eliminating the debt limit, the former president lambasted the idea. On Sunday, following the Democrat’s win and maintaining Senate control, Trump went on the attack. “It’s Mitch McConnell’s fault. Spending money to defeat great Republican candidates instead of backing Blake...

All Is Well! You might remember that phrase as being yelled by Chip Diller of "Animal House" as utter chaos erupted around him. Well, the media critic Bill Goodykoontz of the Arizona Republic also sounds like Diller with his assurances that all is well with the very very slow vote count in Arizona while declaring the long delay is perfectly normal on Saturday in "No, national media, vote counting in Arizona isn't 'messy,' no matter what Kari Lake says." While assuring that a long delay in the vote count is quite normal, Goodykoontz also expresses frustration over why anyone would be...

Lara Trump issued a dark warning to Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis saying it would be “nicer” for him to stay out of the 2024 race for the GOP presidential nomination. The daughter-in-law of former President Donald Trump appeared on Sky News Australia to boost his prospective candidacy that’s expected to be announced on Tuesday. The announcement appears to be set to go ahead despite Mr Trump being urged by allies to delay his campaign start until after the Georgia Senate runoff on 6 December. “I think he's a smart enough guy to know that it would be great to...

Republicans on Sunday picked up one of several seats that they’ll need to secure in order to gain a majority in the House of Representatives, which is still not guaranteed five days after the midterm elections were held. Republican Lori Chavez-DeRemer bested Democrat Jamie McLeod-Skinner to take the House seat in Oregon’s 5th District. The win gave Republicans 212 seats in the House, still short of a minimum majority of 218 with 19 races that have not been called yet. But Republicans are not home free, and still must win most of the races where they’re leading in order to...
