All current Republican senators apparently support Utah Sen. Mike Lee’s bid for reelection, except one. Sen. Mitt Romney’s name is noticeably absent from the list of 48 senators Lee posted on his campaign Twitter account Friday. “I am grateful for the support of my Senate colleagues. Together, we will continue the fight for the American people. The failures of the Biden Administration and Democrats have damaged our nation for long enough,” Lee tweeted.

In an age of mindful drinking, the low-ABV spirit is an easy hero. The Martini can be whatever you'd like it to be: vodka or gin. Stirred or shaken. Ice-cold and served up, or frosty and sitting on a large rock. Olives? Absolutely. Lemon twist? Yes! Splashed with sherry, yellow chartreuse, or pasta water? Martinis contain multitudes. As of lately, they're even low-ABV, thanks to a new school of low-proof vodkas and gins that are making martinis surprisingly sessionable. There's no agreement on what constitutes a lower-alcohol spirit, but a good rule of thumb is that one can sit anywhere...

Presidentish Joe Biden shared the good news about the economy (maybe he’s off his meds) on Friday and very nearly held something like a brief press conference immediately afterward — and I’m here to briefly tell you what happened in order to spare you from having to watch the thing. Before we begin, a brief spoiler: It was really a short campaign speech about how Republicans will ruin all the good works Biden has performed (seriously, he must be off his meds) in front of an adoring press who kept the questions strictly beanbag. You’d probably guessed that already, hadn’t...

Mealworms and crickets are edging closer to EU plates following the latest round of approvals, as commercialization of alternative products containing protein-packed insects is on the horizon in Europe. According to the insect umbrella organization backing the burgeoning industry, products could be available as soon as next year, unlocking a whole ranch of nutritional, sustainable food. The International Platform of Insects for Food and Feed (IPIFF) welcomes the European Union Member States authorities’ green light to the draft implementing regulations from the European Commission, aiming to authorize the commercialization of frozen and freeze-dried formulations of the lesser mealworm (Alphitobius diaperinus)...

America’s shelves are stocked and packages mailed because of truckers—and there’s an earthquake coming to the world of American diesel. During COVID, trucking in America slowed, leaving many shelves empty. However, no matter the madness, there were enough truckers hitting the road for Americans to have food in their stomachs, gas in their cars, and clothes on their backs. However, in less than a month, it’s entirely possible that trucking will become too expensive for many truckers. Why? Because the real emergency isn’t rising fuel prices; it’s rising diesel prices. This is a story that’s been on the periphery of...

Normally, when I write pieces on Joe Biden’s brain going on the fritz, I’m heavy on the snark and jokes about the White House not getting his drug cocktail right. But a newly released MSNBC interview with the president took things to a place where that doesn’t seem appropriate. In the first clip, Biden appeared to have a physical issue when asked about running in 2024. You have to watch the clip to get the full effect, but the president not only goes silent, but his eyes droop down and he looks like he’s about to fall over for a...

Redfin projects mortgage rates may not fall until early to mid-2023 ... Red-hot mortgage rates are giving home buyers and sellers cold feet. About 17% of homes that went under contract with real estate brokerage Redfin last month were called off. The technology-powered real estate firm reported that approximately 60,000 deals fell through in September, marking the "highest share on record aside from March 2020," the same month the World Health Organization declared the coronavirus pandemic. Redfin Economics Research Lead Chen Zhao said the housing market is at "another standstill" although it's completely different from the early days of the...

A Federal Court of Appeals has put in place a temporary block on President Joe Biden's student debt forgiveness program after granting a stay Friday evening. The 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals sided with six Republican-led states that sued the administration. The court temporarily halted the program, which would have forgiven up to up $10,000 in debt for eligible non-Pell Grant recipients, until consideration of an injunction is completed. The administration has until Monday, Oct. 24 at 6 p.m. ET to file an appeal for the injunction. The Court of Appeals decision comes a day after U.S. District Judge...

The senior economist who earned the nickname “Dr. Doom” after correctly predicting the 2008 financial crisis has ridiculed transplanted New Yorkers for “stupidly” relocating to Sun Belt states during the pandemic. Nouriel Roubini, the New York University economics professor and the CEO of the consultancy firm Roubini Macro Associates, thinks those who fled the Big Apple for Florida or Texas would have been wiser to instead relocate to the Midwest. “A lot of real estate is going to be stranded because of global climate change,” Roubini told the “Odd Lots” podcast on Bloomberg. “People have stupidly moved from New York...

We’ve seen a lot of climate change protesters in this country. They’re usually incredibly annoying, doing things like blocking traffic by linking themselves together on the highway or gluing their hands to something. Last week as we reported, we saw these two people throw soup at Van Gogh’s Sunflowers and glue themselves to the wall. Context pic.twitter.com/GCLHATIdW7 — spicymayo (@spicymayo18) October 14, 2022 The young woman with pink hair is bordering on hysterical as she tries to convince people of the importance of their actions. The usual reaction to people like this has been to cut them loose or free...

[Catholic Caucus] An Evil Edict from Pope FrancisAn Evil Edict from Pope FrancisBISHOP ROB MUTSAERTS Auxiliary Bishop of ‘s-Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands Pope Francis promotes synodality: everyone should be able to talk, everyone should be heard. This was hardly the case with his recently published motu proprio Traditionis Custodes, an ukase [imperial edict] that must put an immediate termination on the traditional Latin Mass. In so doing, Francis puts a big bold line through Summorum Pontificum, Pope Benedict’s motu proprio that gave ample scope to the old Mass. The fact that Francis here uses the word of power without any consultation indicates...

So Markle just did her podcast and complained about being "objectified" on "Deal Or no Deal" show, but then said nothing about how 2 years later, she had no problem giving sloppy top 3000 to some dude in a car in the 90210 TV series in her role. Worth watching.

President Biden claimed Friday that three universities reached out to gauge his interest in their top jobs after he left office as vice president in 2017, but that his wife Jill strongly objected. Biden told the story at Delaware State University while speaking about his cancellation of about $400 billion in student debt — saying it was a “true story.” “True story: When I left the vice presidency, after Beau died, I wasn’t going to get involved in politics anymore. So I became a full professor at the University of Pennsylvania,” he said.

MSNBC personality Joe Scarborough slammed progressives on Friday as being alarmingly out of touch with voters’ concerns about rising crime rates ahead of critical midterm elections next month. The “Morning Joe” co-anchor targeted Democrats after the left-leaning network aired a segment with a focus group of black voters in Philadelphia. The voters, all Democrats, identified crime as their biggest concern and expressed frustration that lawmakers haven’t adequately addressed the crisis. “That is so jarring and we hear it everywhere,” Scarborough said after watching the focus group’s responses. “We hear it from Philadelphia to New York to San Francisco. In an...

In the race to be senator from Pennsylvania, voters must decide between Dr. Mehmet Oz . . . or Gisele Barreto Fetterman. Oh, Gisele isn’t on the ballot. But considering how much she runs interference for her candidate husband, John Fetterman, we should wonder who actually will be running the show. Fetterman had a severe stroke earlier this year, leaving him with speech and cognitive problems. There have been numerous examples of Gisele Fetterman running interference for her husband, keeping the press away or answering questions for him.
