The Fremont Police Department said Monday that it shut down a recycling company buying stolen catalytic converters, putting an end to a “major pathway for criminal activity.” After a year-long investigation, the department established that the Arrow Recovery recycling company at 46025 Warm Springs Blvd. was buying stolen catalytic converters, the department said in a news release. To confirm the operation was illegal, an undercover officer sold cut catalytic converters to Arrow Recovery marked or etched with "stolen" or other markings suggesting they had been illegally obtained and the company repeatedly purchased the stolen devices. Catalytic converters have increasingly become...

It's estimated that more than 107,000 people in the United States died due to opioid overdoses in 2021. Washington Post journalist Scott Higham notes it's "the equivalent of a 737 Boeing crashing and burning and killing everybody on board every single day." In the new book, American Cartel, Higham and co-author Sari Horwitz make the case that the pharmaceutical industry operated like a drug cartel, with manufacturers at the top; wholesalers in the middle; and pharmacies at the level of "street dealers." What's more, Higham says, the companies collaborated with each other — and with lawyers and lobbyists — to...

Researchers demonstrated positive effects on the formation of new heart muscle cells (cardiomyogenesis) in aged mice and investigated the underlying cellular and molecular mechanisms. The heart of adult mammals has a very limited ability to generate new cardiomyocytes. With aging, this capacity continues to decrease, while at the same time the risk of cardiovascular disease increases. Dr. Carolin Lerchenmüller and her team have found evidence that physical activity stimulates the new formation of heart muscle cells in aging mice. "In previous work, we have already demonstrated that regular exercise effectively stimulates cardiomyogenesis in younger mice. Now we have investigated the...

Whatever excuse the Justice Department and FBI have for raiding the home of former President Donald Trump, there can be no doubt about the ultimate implication. The Far Left, which sprung to life in opposition to the Trump administration, is determined to use the power of government to remove those who challenge its power. Were the FBI agents looking for mishandled classified documents taken from the White House? That would be a laugh. As president, Trump could have declassified anything he wanted and needn’t have told anyone since he was the chief executive of the executive branch and commander in...

One day after the search at Trump’s home, the FBI has taken the personal cell phone of Rep. Scott Perry, a Republican from Pennsylvania. Rep. Perry gave an exclusive statement to Fox News about what happened.“This morning, while traveling with my family, 3 FBI agents visited me and seized my cell phone. They made no attempt to contact my lawyer, who would have made arrangements for them to have my phone if that was their wish. I’m outraged — though not surprised — that the FBI under the direction of Merrick Garland’s DOJ, would seize the phone of a sitting...

During Tuesday’s White House briefing, Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre confirmed formerly anonymous claims that the White House had not been briefed about Monday’s FBI raid at Donald Trump’s home, Mar-a-Lago, and that they learned about the hours-long action the way everybody else did. After her initial presentation, Jean-Pierre was asked (by a reporter who stumbled over the words “served a search warrant” several times, grasping for the politispeak phrase for “raid”):On a different topic, the FBI served a search warrant on the former president’s residence in Florida. Was the President or anyone at the White House aware of that search warrant,...

The “Inflation Reduction Act,” which as we’ve pointed out is unlikely to tame inflation, contains $80 billion in funding for the Internal Revenue Service to hire a staggering 87,000 new agents to slog through the financial affairs of Americans. The allocation is a 600 percent increase over the agency’s 2021 budget of $12.6 billion. The bill cleared the Senate Sunday and now heads to the House, where it’s expected to pass. It would more than double the agency’s current staffing, bringing it up eventually to 165,000 people. That’s more than the population of Tempe, Arizona. The Washington Free Beacon reports that the...

Research involving patients in intensive care has highlighted that propofol, an anesthetic drug commonly used to facilitate invasive mechanical ventilation, increases cardiovascular complications risk in the critically ill. Dr. John Laffey led a team investigating the causes and impact of peri-intubation cardiovascular instability in critically ill patients. This research is part of the International Observational Study to Understand the Impact and Best Practices of Airway Management in Critically Ill Patients (INTUBE) which is investigating tracheal intubation in patients. The investigators identified important modifiable, previously poorly understood risk factors that increase the risk of critically ill patients developing shock and cardiovascular...

There’s an interesting angle given the revelation that Judge Bruce Reinhart signed-off on the sketchy FBI search warrant for the residence of President Trump in Florida. .... Snip..... Considering the FBI predicate for the raid on Trump’s home, as currently identified, is exceptionally weak; and considering the profile of the raid would have landed upon an ordinarily reluctant judicial desk; what if the FBI had leverage over Bruce Reinhart as an outcome of the case against Epstein’s enabler, Ghislane Maxwell. The prosecutor in the New York case against Maxwell was former FBI Director James Comey’s daughter. The client files of...

A new analysis shows that a combination of two anti-platelets drugs can benefit patients after the most common type of cardiac surgery—while also increasing the risk of potentially dangerous bleeding. This double-edged finding from investigators suggests physicians should carefully weigh the use of these medications after this procedure. Dr. Mario Gaudino examined grafts in which surgeons use a piece of vein taken from the leg to circumvent blocked coronary arteries. Sometimes, however, blood clots form within the grafted vein, obstructing blood flow. Typically, patients are given aspirin; however, some evidence suggests that aspirin along with a prescription strength anti-platelet agent,...

A man arrested as the prime suspect in the serial killing of four Muslim men in Albuquerque is believed to be a Sunni Muslim himself, it has been reported.
