Napping on a regular basis is associated with higher risks for high blood pressure and stroke, according to research. Researchers examined whether frequent naps could be a potential causal risk factor for high blood pressure and/or stroke. This is the first study to use both observational analysis of participants over a long period of time and Mendelian randomization—a genetic risk validation. Wang's group excluded records of people who had already had a stroke or had high blood pressure before the start of the stufy. The study found: - A higher percentage of usual-nappers were men, had lower education and income...

IPray For The Peace of JerusalemGenesis 4747 Joseph went and told Pharaoh, “My father and brothers, with their flocks and herds and everything they own, have come from the land of Canaan and are now in Goshen.” 2 He chose five of his brothers and presented them before Pharaoh. 3 Pharaoh asked the brothers, “What is your occupation?” “Your servants are shepherds,” they replied to Pharaoh, “just as our fathers were.” 4 They also said to him, “We have come to live here for a while, because the famine is severe in Canaan and your servants’ flocks have no pasture....

Why my friends and I had more wisdom when we were 12 than college students and faculty have today. The average 12-year-old student at a yeshiva has more wisdom than almost any student at Harvard or most other universities. (A yeshiva is an Orthodox Jewish school with an emphasis on religious studies. About half the school day is devoted to religious studies—taught from the original Hebrew sources.) This is probably true for many 12-year-olds in traditional Christian schools as well. College students do have more knowledge than almost any 12-year-old in religious school. But they have much less wisdom. I...

Here it is. Fox News carried Pence's speech, NOT Trump's, a former president. Think about that! Pence's was nothing more than a hard-boiled regurgitation of nonsense, defeatism and dispair. Please listen to this great man, who humbly speaks of where we were and where we should be going. He gives concrete ideas, and objectives. He numbers them. It's very uplifting. This is a must watch, folks!!!! This is still a great country.

European gas prices rose 9%, trading close to its earlier all-time high after Russia invaded Ukraine. Critics accuse the Russian government of using gas as a political weapon. Russia has been cutting flows through the Nord Stream 1 pipeline to Germany, with it now operating at less than a fifth of its normal capacity. Germany imports 55% of its gas from Russia and most of it comes through Nord Stream 1 - with the rest coming from land-based pipelines. Russian energy firm Gazprom has sought to justify the latest cut by saying it was needed to allow maintenance work on...

Connecticut is a small state, so you may not be paying sufficient attention to its heroic efforts to save the planet. Count on the Manhattan Contrarian to bring you up to date on the latest developments. On Friday (July 22) Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont signed the just-passed bipartisan Clean Air Act for the state. Lamont and other state officials gathered in New Haven in 90+ degree heat to celebrate the great accomplishment. A State Senator named Will Haskell, who is a member of the legislature’s Transportation Committee, took the occasion to make the main point: We cannot wait for Washington...

A study finds following a time-restricted eating (TRE) protocol, which limits food to a 10-hour window, shows promising beneficial metabolic effects in adults with type 2 diabetes (T2D). TRE is a strategy for improving metabolic health and is intended to counteract the detrimental effects of eating throughout the day by limiting the duration of food intake (typically 12 hours or less) and restore the cycle of daytime eating and prolonged fasting during the evening and night. Previous studies show that TRE leads to promising metabolic changes in people with overweight or obesity, including increased fat burning, decreased blood sugar levels...

Time for the LGBTQ+s to show what they’re made of. The question:If refraining from sexual contact for three-to-eight weeks could save lives and put a stop to suffering in your community, would you do it? The history:Monkeypox is an animal virus that can be transmitted to and between humans. In 1970, the first human case of monkeypox was identified in a child in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It has appeared since then mostly in tropical African countries. The 2003 outbreak in the U.S. was via infected prairie dog pets that had been housed with infected animals imported from...

America First Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene posed the question as to how children are becoming infected with the sexually transmitted monkeypox virus after the CDC announced that it had confirmed America’s first two childhood cases of the disease. Monkeypox, an African virus reported to cause painful lesions on the genitals of those infected, has been almost unheard of in the Western World but began spreading through Europe, the United States, and other Western nations after it was widely transmitted at a pair of gay sex parties.

Fox News declined to air former President Donald Trump’s Tuesday speech at the America First Policy Institute (AFPI) summit, despite airing a speech by Vice President Mike Pence hours earlier. Although the network skipped Trump’s speech, Fox News aired former Vice President Mike Pence’s speech at the Young Americas Foundation’s national student conference just hours before Trump spoke. Trump’s speech at the AFPI summit, organized by former senior officials in his administration, marked the first time the former president had been in Washington D.C. since President Joe Biden took office in January 2021.

Several Democrats who are seeking election or re-election in states around the country refused to provide a definition for the word "woman" or offer their thoughts on whether men have the capacity to become pregnant. Raphael Warnock, D-Ga., Catherine Cortez Masto, D-Nev., Mark Kelly, D-Ariz., and Maggie Hassan, D-N.H., and Senate nominees John Fetterman of Pennsylvania, Tim Ryan of Ohio, and Cheri Beasley of North Carolina. The publication of the papers, which underwent five months of peer review and revisions by the authors, is unlikely to quell the rancorous debate about how the pandemic began and whether the virus emerged from a Chinese laboratory..."Everything upstream of this — which animals, where did they come from, how it's all connected — is completely unknown at this stage," Kristian Andersen, an immunologist at Scripps Research, said in a media briefing Tuesday.

On July 26, the Russian occupiers shelled their own positions with friendly fire, and then destroyed their own Ka-52 helicopter. This was reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Censor.NET reports. "Gesture of goodwill" from the occupiers. Yesterday, three Russian Ka-52s in the Kherson region intended to attack our units, but... struck their own. Returning, the occupiers' helicopters came under the "friendly" fire of the frightened air defense calculations of the Russian troops. Russian air defense has never been distinguished by accuracy, so the invaders shot down only one of their Ka-52 strike out of three....
