MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Milwaukee moved another step closer to hosting the 2024 Republican National Convention on Friday when a site selection committee unanimously recommended the event be held there rather than Nashville, Tennessee. The Republican National Committee would still need to approve the location at its meeting Aug. 2-5 in Chicago. Nashville could still be the winner, but that city’s chances hit a roadblock earlier this month when opposition led proponents to withdraw a proposed agreement about how to host the event.

A May response "allowed" a weekly Mass in one parish and a monthly Mass in three other parishes but only "until May 20, 2023."The Mass in Savannah Cathedral will be cancelled in August. Pope Francis' "acceleration" on the liturgyAn acceleration. That's the word some of the pope's aides use when they look back on the past year.Since last summer, Francis, who has not resumed his pre-pandemic pace of travel, has issued a lot more "motu proprios", made numerous symbolic appointments and signed a number of rescripts. He also published the long-awaited apostolic constitution on the reformed Roman Curia in March. And he's entered more decisively into an area he's been relatively reluctant to get involved with up until now – the liturgy.Last July's publication of the "motu proprio" Traditionis custodes was only the first of...

Paramount and Skydance’s Top Gun: Maverick has passed $1.2 billion at the worldwide box office, including $605.5 million domestic and $602.5 million overseas sans a single penny from China and Russia. This makes the film, already Paramount’s biggest (sans inflation) domestic grosser behind Titanic ($600 million in 1997/1998 and $659 million counting the 2012 3-D reissue), Paramount’s biggest global grosser. It has passed the $1.105 billion gross of Transformers: Age of Extinction, which was the top grossing film of 2014 and sits behind James Cameron’s Titanic. However, the Kate Winslet/Leonardo DiCaprio romantic melodrama (which has grossed $2.2 billion global) was...

As the all-important midterm elections of 2022 get closer, it’s more pressing than ever for the GOP to prepare for whatever shenanigans-laden curveballs the Dems are sure to throw at them. One would hope that the Republicans are finally aware that it’s always a matter of “when” and not “if” the Democrats will try to underhandedly game an election, especially after the debacle of 2020. During the Obama years, I used to say that any GOP candidate had to make sure that he or she was “outside the margin of ACORN.” I’ve updated that to “outside the margin of magic...

[Catholic Caucus] ACTION ITEM: Prayer to avert a serious act of persecution – UPDATEDIt seems that, again, there are those who cannot keep things to themselves. I had hoped to build a prayerful barrage regarding this really bad news, in the hope that, perhaps, there were still some chances that, behind the scenes, things could be worked out in a better way without the public eye on everything, thus to allow the Archdiocese to “save face” and not have to “dig in”.You might respond that, given the Archdiocese in question, that was an act of the greatest optimism, even naivete.I...

Former Trump administration White House officials courting left-wing and partisan Democrat news media follow a particular formula, filmmaker and political observer Amanda Milius said on Tuesday’s edition of the Breitbart News Daily podcast with host Alex Marlow.Milius highlighted Alyssa Farah Griffin and Stephanie Grisham, both former communications officials with the Trump administration, as illustrative of how former White House employees under Republican presidents partake in self-aggrandizement within the leftist media ecosystem.“Alyssa Farah [has] become like the classic ‘I left the Trump administration, completely changed my politics, everybody’s an extremist but me, and I got the TV money and I injected...

California’s white lieutenant governor calls Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas a “Saudi Arabian father.” The Supreme Court’s 6-3 takedown of Roe v. Wade on Friday set off a Krakatoa of hatred not seen from the Left since the election of Donald Trump as president of the United States in 2016. As California’s Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis demonstrates, Trump Derangement Syndrome now joins forces with Thomas Derangement Syndrome. “Who is Clarence Thomas?
