Denver Newsroom, Jul 5, 2022 / 16:00 pm A Catholic priest overseeing missionaries serving in Hong Kong reportedly told the missionaries that they should prepare for a much more difficult future, as the Chinese government tightens control over the exercise of religion in Hong Kong. Sen. John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) on Sunday cast doubt that Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) could prevail in the state’s primary because “there are not enough Democrats” to propel her to victory. In an interview on “Fox News Sunday,” Barrasso referred to Cheney’s outspoken rhetoric against the Jan. 6, 2021, storming of the U.S. Capitol and her position as vice chairwoman on the House panel investigating the riot as potential trouble in the race ahead of the Aug. 16 primary election. “Wyoming politics is very personal. It’s face to face. It’s town to town,” Barrasso told host Mike Emanuel. “The travel that...

Explanation: Three thousand light-years away, a dying star throws off shells of glowing gas. This image from the Hubble Space Telescope reveals the Cat's Eye Nebula (NGC 6543), to be one of the most complex planetary nebulae known. Spanning half a light-year, the features seen in the Cat's Eye are so complex that astronomers suspect the bright central object may actually be a binary star system. The term planetary nebula, used to describe this general class of objects, is misleading. Although these objects may appear round and planet-like in small telescopes, high resolution images with large telescopes reveal them to...

[Catholic Caucus] Desiderio Desideravi: Desires of a Delusional TailorLike most of his writings, Bergoglio’s recent apostolic letter, Desiderio Desideravi, is so full of pseudo-Catholic gaslighting that it should be avoided by almost every Catholic wishing to preserve peace of soul. In it, he attempts to convince his “dearest sisters and brothers” that his great love for the Mass prompts him to call all souls to be spiritually nourished through its faithful celebration. One almost forgets that he is writing the letter to justify his vicious persecution of those who actually seek to make the Tridentine Mass the center of their...

Former President Trump during an event in Alaska late Saturday called Tesla CEO Elon Musk a “bullsh*t artist” for supporting the former president’s opponents in 2016 and 2020. “He said the other day, ‘Oh, I’ve never voted for a Republican,’” Trump said at a rally. “I said, ‘I didn’t know that,’” Trump continued. “He told me he voted for me, so he’s another bullsh*t artist.” Last month, Musk tweeted that he voted for a Republican for the first time in Mayra Flores, who flipped a traditionally Democratic House seat in a Texas special election. The Tesla CEO donated to Hillary...

After some early hesitation over concerns the systems could be used by Ukrainian forces against Russian territory, reluctantly drawing the U.S. into the fight, Washington said it would initially send four Himars to Ukraine, and train Ukrainian forces to use them. These advanced systems are mobile launchers capable of striking targets from a maximum distance ranging from about 60 kilometers to nearly 500 kilometers depending on the type of ammunition used. “We needed to persuade them, to show them proof,” said Mr. Reznikov. “In the Izyum case, we were precise [in targeting] a Russian command center for aerial operations. It...

Add one more critical shortage to the world's swollen list. Countries for months have been hoarding fertilizer - and now they are weaponizing it, making sales in return for geopolitical favors. Last July, China's National Development and Reform Commission stopped major companies from exporting fertilizer. In September, Beijing imposed a prohibition on exports of phosphates, a primary fertilizer ingredient, until at least the middle of this year. In October, Chinese officials added inspection requirements to aid enforcement of the bans. The moves were a reaction to rising prices in China and elsewhere. China's fertilizer bans created shortages. The country's traditional...

Russian and Ukrainian diplomats held four rounds of talks to try to resolve the crisis in February and March, but stopped meeting after Kiev pulled out of negotiations as US and European officials announced that the conflict must be decided on the battlefield, and sent tens of billions of dollars-worth of military hardware and economic aid to Kiev. The United States and its European allies are conducting “secret consultations” aimed at ending the Ukrainian crisis, Germany’s Welt newspaper has indicated. Marine engineer George Johnson Armstrong on this date in 1941 was hanged at Wandsworth Prison … attaining an unenviable distinction as the first of five Britons executed under the Treachery Act of 1940. One of the very first laws enacted by the incoming wartime government of Winston Churchill as the Wehrmacht overran France, the Treachery Act anticipated two potential difficulties in punishing various forms of aid that folk might thereafter attempt to extend to the Third Reich. We’ll let all about those difficulties: if we rely upon the Treason Act — the main Act, as I have said, is an...
