“‘Everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. . . . Everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand’” (Matthew 7:24, 26). An important way to discern between true believers and those who merely profess faith in Christ is to consider Jesus’ illustration of the hearers and builders. The crucial element to understand is the foundations upon which people build hopes. While there are clear...

BIDEN HOPS ON THE RAPE BANDWAGON I wrote here about the sensational story of a 10-year-old rape victim in Ohio who had to travel to Indiana for an abortion. The story, phoned into an Indiana newspaper by an abortionist who seems to spend most of her time promulgating pro-abortion propaganda in the press, spread around the world almost instantaneously. But there is little reason to believe it is true. No one, including Snopes, has been able to verify it, there is no sign of any criminal investigation or prosecution of the supposed rapist, and the abortionist who originally peddled the...

Injections of hyaluronic acid (known as viscosupplementation) to treat knee osteoarthritis make almost no difference to pain and might raise risk of adverse events, suggests research. Knee osteoarthritis is a chronic disease that involves inflammation and structural changes of the joints, resulting in joint pain and limitations to physical movement. It is a leading cause of disability among older people. National and international guidelines vary in their recommendations, but most advise against the use of viscosupplementation. In England, guidelines recommend against its use, but health care systems in other countries including the U.S. still offer it to patients. An international...

Copper exposure in the environment and the protein alpha-synuclein in the human brain could play an important role in the pathogenesis of Parkinson's disease. A team from was able to show how the protein forms into an unusual shape when exposed to large amounts of copper ions. Researchers have now taken a closer look at the abnormal shape of these alpha-synucleins in the form of protein rings. In doing so, they were also able to visualize at the nanoscale the connection with environmental pollution by copper. The researchers are targeting a protein that is involved in several molecular processes in...

Republican James E. Risch (Idaho) was in Ukraine, touring the country. He was escorted by Ukrainian forces because the State Department refused to provide him security once he crossed the Ukrainian border. He met with Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv, and came away with the conclusion that the current U.S. strategy has not properly adjusted to the latest phase of the fighting.Russian forces are pummeling Ukrainian civilian and military targets in the Donbas with their superior artillery. Ukrainian forces are still not receiving enough of the weapons that might give them the advantage — including long-range air defenses, longer-range artillery, heavy...

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre fended off criticisms from Fox News' Peter Doocy and the Heritage Foundation's John Cooper that runaway inflation is hurting the economy. Cooper pointed out that "inflation is at a 40-year high, gas prices are averaging $5 a gallon nationwide, we still haven't gotten back all the jobs we lost from the pandemic, and wages aren't keeping pace with inflation." Doocy suggested that "do you think it's possible that your plan to raise the cost of living just is not popular with the American people right now?" The Press Secretary called these objections "evidence of...

Patriarch Bartholomew officially opened the church during a visit to the U.S. in November. The new church is envisioned as “a place for everyone who comes to the Sacred Ground at the World Trade Center to imagine and envision a world where mercy is inevitable, reconciliation is desirable and forgiveness is...

Washington D.C., Jul 8, 2022 / 12:53 pm President Joe Biden signed an executive order Friday aimed at protecting abortion access in response to the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Soldiers stationed in Alaska will soon ditch the 25th Infantry Division's "Tropic Lightning" patch and be redesignated the 11th Airborne Division, in what could be an important step in the Army's recent focus on Arctic warfare. Army Secretary Christine Wormuth told lawmakers that the move will give units in the state a clear identity. Soldiers there currently fall under the command of U.S. Army Alaska and wear the 25th Infantry Division patch. But that division is mostly associated with units in Hawaii that train for combat in the jungle, the opposite of Alaska's mission and something leaders and junior soldiers...
