Each has played a critical, if unconventional part, in a freer, more democratic 21st century<.h4> At first glance, one might not see the connections between the Gipper, Ronald Reagan, Justice Clarence Thomas, President Donald Trump, and Soviet President Vladimir Putin. Yet over a 40-year period, these four have combined to radically transform the world, ensure—-over time—-greater prosperity, re-establish national sovereignty, and elevate life and family. I. RONALD REAGANRonald Reagan came into office in 1981 with the two-fold mission of restoring the American economy from the pre-Joe Biteme, the hapless Jesus Carter. In just four years, Carter took a bad economy...

Scientists have finally rediscovered a lost fossil site in Brazil, after the researchers who originally discovered it 70 years ago were unable to retrace their steps to the remote location...The rediscovered site, which is known as Cerro Chato, is located near Brazil’s border with Uruguay in the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul. Around 260 million years ago, towards the end of the Permian period (299 million to 251 million years ago) conditions at the site were ideal for trapping and preserving dead organisms. As a result, multiple rocky layers at Cerro Chato are chock-full of delicate fossils —...

Putin has called an obese general out of retirement to take command of forces in Ukraine after yet another round of purges of top commanders has left him 'scraping the barrel'. The 20 stone General Pavel, 67, has been summoned from his comfortable life in the Moscow suburbs and told to don his specially-made army fatigues and go to the front lines of eastern Ukraine. He will now take charge of Russian special forces operating in the region after the unit's former commander was seriously injured in an artillery strike. A veteran of the Soviet Union's ill-fated invasion of Afghanistan...

The oldest known shipwreck in the Indian Ocean has been sitting on the seafloor off the southern coast of Sri Lanka for some 2,000 years...The wreck lies 110 feet (33 meters) below the ocean's surface, just off the fishing village of Godavaya, where German archaeologists in the 1990s found a harbor that was an important port along the maritime Silk Road during the second century A.D..."Everything's pretty broken," said Deborah Carlson, president of the Institute of Nautical Archaeology at Texas A&M University, who is leading the expedition to the Godavaya wreck with colleagues from the United States, Sri Lanka and...

The vast majority of Pro-Choice advocates are shockingly unaware of what precisely happens during an abortion procedure. And when they are made aware, most are shocked and horrified about the truth of abortion. To this end, please consider downloading these animations of the various abortion procedures to your phones. Please be very mindful that even though these are only animations, they are extremely disturbing and difficult to watch. When appropriate — and only if the situation seems appropriate to you — consider showing these animations to your Pro-Choice friends (I never show them to minors without one of their parents...

MANILA, Philippines -- A U.S. Navy destroyer that engaged a superior Japanese fleet in the largest sea battle of World War II in the Philippines has become the deepest wreck to be discovered, according to explorers. The USS Samuel B. Roberts, popularly known as the “Sammy B," was identified on Wednesday broken into two pieces on a slope at a depth of 6,985 meters (22,916 feet). That puts it 426 meters (1,400 feet) deeper than the USS Johnson, the previous deepest wreck discovered last year in the Philippine Sea also by American explorer Victor Vescovo, founder of Dallas-based Caladan Oceanic...

Common sense is like deodorant. The people who need it the most never use it. My tolerance for idiots is extremely low these days. I used to have some immunity built up, but obviously there's a new strain out there. It’s not my age that bothers me; it’s the side effects. I’m not saying I’m old and worn out, but I make sure I’m nowhere near the curb on trash day. As I watch this generation try and rewrite our history, I'm sure of one thing: It will be misspelled and have no punctuation. As I’ve gotten older, people think...

Last December, Amy Wax, the Robert Mundheim Professor of Law at the University of Pennsylvania Law School, raised hackles on the Left when she appeared on Glenn Loury’s podcast to discuss the topic of American identity in an age of mass immigration from non-Western countries. Professor Wax’s comments prompted a round of denunciations and demands that she be suspended from her duties at the University of Pennsylvania. The following is a lightly-edited transcript of a conversation between Amy Wax and Alexander Riley from February of this year.

On this date in 1621, Christenze (or Christence) Kruckow was beheaded as a witch — the only known noblewoman to suffer that fate in Danish history. Kruckow first came under the witchsmeller’s nose in the 1590s. As a young woman, she lived in the household of a man named Eiler Brockenhuus — common practice at the time in Danish high society. The supposition is that when the lady of the house died in 1582, Kruckow might have aspired to make a permanent move. Instead, the position of wife no. 2 went to another woman named Anne Brille. From the sound...

Based on a casual reading of the polls, Donald Trump looks to have smooth sailing to the Republican presidential nomination in 2024 and the chance to erase the stink of losing to Joe Biden that he so covets. But if that’s the case, why does Trump seem so panicky these days? Simple: Trump is in trouble, and — when you dig into the numbers — his grip on the GOP nomination is getting more tenuous. It is Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) who has all the momentum.

ELMAU, Germany (AP) — President Joe Biden and western allies opened a three-day summit in the Bavarian Alps on Sunday intent on keeping economic fallout from the war in Ukraine from fracturing the global coalition working to punish Russia’s aggression. Britain’s Boris Johnson warned the leaders not to give in to “fatigue” even as Russia lobbed new missiles at Kyiv. The leaders were set to announce new bans on imports of Russian gold, the latest in a series of sanctions the club of democracies hopes will further isolate Russia economically. They also were looking at possible price caps on energy meant...

One of the nation’s largest vertically integrated chicken producers will be shutting down one of its plants in Campbell County, Tennessee. George’s Inc. announced it would be closing its Caryville food processing plant, WVLT-TV reported. The move would jeopardize the livelihoods of around 200 of the company’s employees during a time of record-high inflation and soaring gas prices, according to the news station. Campbell County Mayor E.L Morton told WLVT-TV that he was working to ensure the plant would remain open, so the closure would not hurt employees’ livelihoods. “I have contacted the Tennessee Economic and Community Development staff to...

The newest car model unveiled by Russia's biggest auto manufacturer earlier this month is generating buzz, but not necessarily for the right reasons. The buzz about AvtoVAZ's Lada Granta Classic -- priced to sell at 678,300 rubles ($12,500) -- is about what it doesn't have: No airbags. No antilock brakes. No electronic stability system. No pretensioners to make the seat belts work properly. No GPS. An engine that complies with emissions standards from 26 years ago. The reason for all this? Western sanctions, imposed to punish Russia for its invasion of Ukraine, that have disrupted imports and roiled supply chains...
