Rep Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) said on Sunday that former Vice President Mike Pence was a hero on Jan 6, 2021, for resisting pressure to overturn the 2020 election from former President Trump and his allies. During an appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” moderator Chuck Todd asked Raskin, a member of the select House panel investigating Jan. 6, if he considers Pence a hero for defying Trump’s orders. “Well, you know, in a time of absolutely scandalous betrayal of people’s oaths of office and crimes being committed all over the place, somebody who does their job and sticks to the...

European natural gas prices rose after rallying 43% last week as Russia’s steep supply cuts put governments on high alert amid a mounting possibility of rationing. Benchmark futures rose as much as 8.1%, with shipments via the Nord Stream remaining at just 40% of capacity. Supply is likely to remain curbed with Gazprom PJSC’s chief Alexey Miller warning there’s no solution for now for issues with the gas turbines essential for the functioning of the pipeline. That’s forcing major European consumers to withdraw gas from the reserves they have been building for the winter when demand typically peaks. The government...

Gazprom in mid-June announced gas flows from Russia to Germany through the key pipeline Nord Stream would be reduced by about 40 percent, arguing that German engineering company Siemens had failed to provide the equipment needed to carry out repairs. Production cuts due to gas shortages could disproportionately affect producers of energy-intensive basic materials like chemicals, steel, fertilizers or glass. Some industrial installations would be permanently damaged if they have to be turned off for an extended period of time. Company leaders have therefore warned against “dramatic” consequences of a domino effect in supply chains that could set in if...

I know that video clip going around looks awful, but let me give some context here. There has been extreme heat and humidity in Western Kansas and cattle have died. This is normal, and 10,000 head total statewide is not a “mass die-off that will cripple the beef supply.” Not even close. There are roughly six million cattle in Kansas. Of those, over two million are “on feed” in confinement feedlots in the western half of the state. In the former United States, something like 125,000 head of cattle are slaughtered per day, Monday through Friday, with a reduced kill...

Can the West still provide the arsenal of democracy? The war in Ukraine has proven that the age of industrial warfare is still here. The massive consumption of equipment, vehicles and ammunition requires a large-scale industrial base for resupply – quantity still has a quality of its own. The mass scale combat has pitted 250,000 Ukrainian soldiers, together with 450,000 recently mobilised citizen soldiers against about 200,000 Russian and separatist troops. The effort to arm, feed and supply these armies is a monumental task. Ammunition resupply is particularly onerous. For Ukraine, compounding this task are Russian deep fires capabilities, which target...

Time for some real talk. There are a lot of Republicans with doubts about President Trump running again in 2024, and you hear it often when conservatives gather together. They worry that him going Grover Cleveland could spoil a sure thing, but that’s not necessarily so. Whether you love Donald Trump, or whether you doubt him – if you hate him, shut up and go back to the Bulwark offices with the other losers – you need to look hard at the facts. We’re not progressives who let our feelz control us, and we must ruthlessly assess our own potential...

For any men wanting to donate blood, make sure you’re medically self-aware. For example, you should be adequately informed as to whether you’ve been impregnated.Such was a lesson reportedly learned by Leslie Sinclair this month. The central Scotland resident had hoped to give life-sustaining fluid to others in need. Sadly, the effort encountered coagulation.According to the Daily Mail, the 66-year-old was handed a form asking if he was currently pregnant. Furthermore, the facility needed to know if he’d been knocked up within the last half-year.The inquiry left him less than impressed:When he complained that as a man in his 60s...
