People looking for ethical meat are inundated with reassuring labels. Those concerned about the treatment and conditions of animals might look for grass-fed or pasture-raised. Others might buy only antibiotics-free. Some focused on the environmental and climate effects of deforestation might buy local. But a shocking federal investigation has exposed an ethical concern for which there are no convenient labels: the treatment of workers doing the industry’s dirty, demanding and dangerous work. On May 12, the House’s select subcommittee on the coronavirus released a scathing report that outlined how several of the country’s largest meatpacking companies worked with political appointees...

With a lot of headlines warning of electrical blackouts this summer, I was looking for a reliable, decent, portable emergency radio. I've seen a number of them online, but I don't trust the reviews. Many of the reviews are praising a cheap unit, or whining why a $30 radio doesn't perform like a $1000 one. Any input or discussion would be appreciated. I did a search, but I didn't see this topic.

When Cedric Lewis came to Grove City College nine years ago, he was delighted to teach where his Christian worldview was expected, not just tolerated. The Christian College, along with Hillsdale College and a few others is a bastion of conservative education, even refusing any federal government aid for fear of their curriculum being compromised by coercive government mandates. But this year, as the Western Pennsylvania school became engulfed in a politicized dispute over critical race theory, Lewis worried its Christian identity could be at risk. “We are in a fight for the soul of this college,” Lewis, an African...

WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden’s economic troubles stand to get even worse as the sweeping Covid lockdowns in China begin to ripple through the U.S. economy. For Biden and Democrats looking to hold on to control of Congress, the upheaval in China adds one more economic pressure point ahead of the midterm elections, with voters saying the economy and inflation are their top concerns. What's more, officials in Washington fear it's a problem largely out of their control. While Biden has no control over China’s widespread lockdowns, Republicans plan to blame him for any worsening economic conditions ahead of the...

Despite the midterm election season looking increasingly grim for Democrats, Colorado Gov. Jared Polis (D) says his focus on the empowerment of individual voters has him in a good spot in a notoriously “purplish” state. “Colorado is a very independently minded, freedom-oriented state, and they don’t want Republicans or Democrats telling them what to do,” Polis told The Hill. “They value accurate information, they value facts, and people should be empowered to make their own decisions, whether that’s marijuana, whether it’s wearing a mask — we’re a state that values freedom.”

Since he started consolidating his rule in 1999, Putin has been always manufacturing conflicts artificially. Chechnya, Georgia, Syria. Each time he claimed he needs to defend "security" of Russia, which was difficult to object to. Everyone agrees Russia has the right to be secure The conflict in Ukraine is also artificial, manufactured. It started with the "little green men" taking over Crimea in 2014. It continued with FSB colonel crossing the border to launch the Russian insurgency. It continued with Russia funding and arming irredentists in Ukraine. It culminated with Russia launching the war of conquest in 2022. It's delusionary...

As a teacher, mother of an elementary school student in Texas, and someone who once carried a gun for a living and has been trained in situational awareness and firearm tactics, no one perhaps is more prepared than I to carry a gun in my classroom. But I would never want to. ...most teachers are not trained in situational awareness. It is not hard to learn to shoot a gun; teachers could learn this with a few days of training. What takes far longer, however, is learning to respond properly to an active shooter. As a former staff operations officer...
