This is an illustration of an asteroid. NASA/JPL-Caltech ===================================================================== I was cruising through the Google News science section this morning when a story popped out saying NASA has estimated a space rock the size of the Great Pyramid may hit our planet on May 6, and even that an impact is "likely." That's the kind of message that can get your adrenaline pumping. But don't fear. Asteroid 2009 JF1 won't be smacking into us. A quick peek around Twitter shows people expressing concern about the headlines, many of them asking the same question: Will it hit Earth? Fortunately, it will...

We noted Tuesday evening, D (for Diesel)-Day quickly approaches, though it might already be here as U.S. East Coast distillate inventories plunge to a record low, according to new government data. Weekly petroleum data from Energy Information Administration’s (EIA) Crude Oil Inventories show East Coast distillate inventories are at their lowest ever, dropping to just 22.4 million barrels. Total U.S. distillate inventories have sunk to levels not seen since the last financial crisis. One of the reasons for the drop is East Coast refinery capacity has plunged over the last decade, “leaving the region vulnerable to squeezes,” according to Bloomberg’s...

T Cells Attacking Cancer Cells 3D rendition of T cells attacking cancer cells. Credit: La Jolla Institute for Immunology ================================================================= Researchers uncover a new strategy to avoid cancer immunotherapy side effects. It’s not often that a failed clinical trial leads to a scientific breakthrough. When patients in the UK started experiencing negative side effects during a cancer immunotherapy trial, researchers at La Jolla Institute for Immunology (LJI) Center for Cancer Immunotherapy and University of Liverpool went back, examined the data, and worked with patient samples to determine what went wrong. Their findings, published today (May 4, 2022) in the journal...

Differences in Pitt-Hopkins Syndrome (right) and a control (left) organoid. (Papes et al., Nature Communications, 2022) ================================================================== Scientists have uncovered changes in neurological structure that could underlie the autism spectrum disorder known as Pitt Hopkins syndrome, thanks to the help of lab-grown brains developed from human cells. Furthermore, the researchers were able to recover lost genetic functions through the use of two different gene therapy strategies – hinting at the possibility of treatments that could one day give those with the condition new options in improving their quality of life. Pitt Hopkins syndrome is a neurodevelopmental condition stemming from a...

The Delaware computer repairman who alerted authorities to the existence of Hunter Biden’s laptop sued on Tuesday Democratic Representative Adam Schiff, CNN, the Daily Beast and Politico, claiming that he suffered financial and reputational damage after they alleged that the leak was Russian disinformation.Business owner John Paul Mac Isaac filed for the suit, he told the New York Post, because his livelihood was significantly disrupted by tech platforms, mainstream media, and Delaware locals after he turned in the laptop, which would eventually become the subject of a federal investigation. “After fighting to reveal the truth, all I want now is...

Joe Scarborough began today's Morning Joe with an act of repentance to the lords of the left, screaming, "what was I thinking?" after admitting he had been a Republican for years. He then argued that the likeliest scenario is that the draft Supreme Court opinion overturning Roe v. Wade was leaked by a "fanatical" person on the "hard right" who was trying to prevent any of the Justices who had signed onto the draft from drifting away from Alito's opinion. John Heilemann helpfully agreed with Scarborough, saying he would put money on Scarborough's take as the likely explanation. Get the...

When King David was right with the Lord and in good fellowship, none of his enemies could stand before him. When David sinned and became estranged from the Lord, his enemies grew bold and triumphed over him. After one of his greatest victories, David’s sin of adultery immediately followed. This great man of God, basking in the glory of a great victory, began to lust after Bathsheba. He killed her husband Uriah and committed adultery with her. “But the thing that David had done displeased the Lord” (2 Samuel 11:27, NKJV). The Lord sent the prophet Nathan to David. The...

If J.D. Vance follows his Tuesday night victory in Ohio’s Senate primary with a general election win in November he’ll arrive in a Washington filled with enemies and be seen as arguably the hardest-edged populist nationalist in the Senate GOP. Why it matters: The Republican establishment privately regards Vance with the same disgust many felt toward Donald Trump when he entered the White House on Jan. 20, 2017. The big picture: Vance’s victory deals a body blow to a small but noticeable resurgence of anti-Trump — or post-Trump — sentiment in the GOP.

The latest push by Democrats and the establishment media to repair President Joe Biden’s standing with the American public on economic issues improbably attempts to crown the president with the laurel of fiscal responsibility. In remarks at the White House Wednesday, Biden plans to claim credit for deficit reduction and pat himself on the back because the federal government will likely shrink the national debt this quarter. That will be the first quarter in six years the government has paid down some debt. This is part of the scramble to create some positive economic news ahead of the midterm elections.

“‘Therefore you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect’” (Matthew 5:48). These words embody all the truths Jesus teaches in the Sermon on the Mount—in fact, they are the apex of all He teaches in the gospels. The ultimate goal of our redemption and the sincere, strong yearning of God’s heart is for all who would trust in His Son to be like Him. The word translated “perfect” essentially means arriving at an intended end or realizing a completion of something. The word elsewhere in the New Testament is often rendered “mature” (cf. 1 Cor. 2:6; 14:20;...

Is it too apples-and-oranges to compare their online haul yesterday to their haul the day after Ginsburg died in September 2020? That was six weeks before a presidential election, at a moment of high civic engagement when liberals were already shelling out money hand over fist to try to push Trump and the GOP out of power. Whereas yesterday was just a spring day, six months out from a midterm election, when the news was dominated by a leak that may or may not portend the imminent demise of Roe v. Wade. Look at it this way, I guess. Had...

Musk replied, wanting to know who was behind the 26 groups signing the...

Chechen warlord Ramzan Kadyrov has slammed Vladimir Putin for 'going soft' on his war targets in Ukraine. The powerful regional leader - believed to be Russia's second-wealthiest politician - is getting increasingly exasperated by the Kremlin leader as he wants him to use overwhelming firepower to take control of Ukraine’s major cities. Kadyrov, who is seen as part of a military and security bloc, believes the Russian forces have been fighting with their hands tied, resulting in repeated humiliations. The general in the Russian national guard as well as head of oil-rich Chechnya said in a video message to Moscow:...

A new nationally representative study found hearing impairment and vision impairment to be independently associated with cognitive impairment. After considering sex, age and other socio-demographic characteristics, older adults with hearing impairment had more than double the odds of cognitive impairment, while those with vision impairment had more than triple the odds of cognitive impairment. When an older adult experienced both hearing impairment and vision impairment, the odds of cognitive impairment were eight-fold. Approximately one half of adults aged 65 and older with both hearing and vision impairment also had cognitive impairment. There have been several studies in the past decade...

All 22 candidates in Ohio and Indiana endorsed by former President Donald J. Trump completed a clean sweep of Tuesday’s primaries, indicating the strength of a Trump endorsement is as mighty as it has ever been. Former White House political director Brian Jack exclusively tells Breitbart News: What we saw in Texas earlier this year was confirmed yet again tonight: President Trump’s endorsement is the most important endorsement in politics. His endorsed candidates are a combined 55-0 in 2022 primaries, a continuation of the historic endorsement streak of success that started during his time at The White House. Populist candidate...

Russian Chief Rabbi Berel Lazar has criticized remarks by his country’s foreign minister, who suggested that some of the worst antisemites were Jewish and that Adolf Hitler had Jewish ancestry. Lazar’s criticism of Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov’s remarks Sunday — he called them “shocking” and said he wished Lavrov would apologize — is unusual in Russia, where other clergy have been supportive of the war in Ukraine and where dissent has largely been made illegal. Widely viewed as having close ties with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Lazar and the organization he leads, the Chabad Lubavitch-affiliated Federation of Jewish Communities of...

I'm watching the insane, radical feminist left go bonkers knowing that there is a possibility that fewer unborn children will get slaughtered in the womb.I just saw a video of Fauxcahontas kicking garden shrubs and yelling in her shrill war-path tone about the 'assault on women's rights'.We're all too familiar with the retaliatory nature of the unhinged left; I'm beginning to worry that more and more of these radicals will support forced institutionalization of Republican men across the country. On top of that, I can see a massive effort to force vasectomies on Republican men. The left thinks pro-life policy...
