In 1918, Scotus settled the issue of WWI conscription v. the 13th Amendment’s ban on involuntary servitude. Borrowing from Vattel, the court majority wrote in the Selective Draft Law Cases:The highest duty of the citizen is to bear arms at the call of the nation. This duty is inherent in citizenship; without it and the correlative power of the State to compel its performance, society could not be maintained. It is a contradiction in terms to say that the United States is a sovereign and yet lacks this power of self-defense.So, the Scotus boldly defended the survival of society and...

Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) offered a blistering rebuke on Monday night of a draft ruling to overturn the landmark 1973 decision in Roe v. Wade. The draft ruling, published by Politico, was authored by Justice Samuel Alito and concludes by declaring that Roe and the court’s 1992 decision in Planned Parenthood v. Casey have no grounding in the Constitution. The court is expected to issue an actual ruling in the case in the next two months.

By Ray Starmann Lions, Tigers and Kangaroos…Long haired Jody and a commie too… US Navy SEAL cadence Across the world our enemies are emboldened. Ukrainian cities are a smoldering ruin, while that nation’s army puts up a heroic fight worthy of ‘The Few’ in 1940. The Chinese fly aircraft over Taiwan every day in a 24/7 non-stop air show, while fortifying artificial islands in the South China Sea. The highest inflation prints in four decades have forced some Americans to flood food banks and pantries (again). WSJ reports that Forgotten Harvest in Detroit has experienced a dramatic increase in demand. Since December, demand at the food bank has increased from 25% to 45%. In March alone, when energy and food prices soared, demand jumped 30% over the prior month. Christopher Ivey, a spokesman for the Detroit food bank, said, “the need is growing quickly, as gas prices are continuing to rise.” “As you know, there are shortages in the grocery store and the costs of the commodity...

Former President Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama issued a strong statement criticizing the draft Supreme Court opinion knocking down the Roe v. Wade decision, saying it would limit U.S. freedoms just like other past actions by the court. “Today, millions of Americans woke up fearing that their essential freedoms under the Constitution were at risk,” the couple said in the joint statement on Tuesday.

Elevated levels of an enzyme called PHGDH in the blood of older adults could be an early warning sign of Alzheimer's disease, and a study provides new evidence to support this claim. In analyzing brain tissue, researchers observed a trend consistent with their previous findings in blood samples: expression levels of the gene coding for PHGDH were consistently higher in adults with different stages of Alzheimer's disease, even the early stages before cognitive symptoms manifested. The findings also prompt caution against the use of dietary supplements that contain the amino acid serine as a remedy for Alzheimer's disease. Because PHGDH...

The wife of never-Trump Ohio Senate candidate Matt Dolan asked Democrats to vote for him in Tuesday’s Republican primary. “ANYONE can vote tomorrow! Just walk into your polling place and ask for a Republican ballot. Fill in the bubble for Matt and walk out,” Jessica Maggard Hart wrote Monday on Facebook. “I‘d prefer to keep FB to horse and dog photos and funny posts, but sometimes things are truly important,” the candidate’s wife continued. “Matt wants to move Ohio FORWARD. Every other candidate wants to look back to 2020. If you want Ohio to be THE focus of this campaign,...

Global manufacturing growth has started to decelerate as supply chain problems, the rising cost of energy and raw materials, and the conflict between Russia and Ukraine take their toll. Slower growth in manufacturing output and freight transport is inevitable after the recovery from the pandemic, when consumer spending shifted to merchandise from services. As quarantines and other social-distancing restrictions are lifted, spending is being redirected back towards services such as transport, tourism and hospitality, sapping some of the demand for goods. Slower manufacturing and freight growth will be quietly welcomed by policymakers since it is likely to ease supply chain...

(CNN)Some of the nation's biggest brands including Coca-Cola (CCEP), Disney (DIS) and Kraft (KHC) are facing calls to boycott Twitter if the company's soon-to-be owner, billionaire Elon Musk, rolls back content moderation policies limiting hate speech and election misinformation. Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski said on Tuesday that her "confidence" in the Supreme Court has been rocked after a leaked draft opinion suggests that the constitutional right to abortion would be overturned by conservative justices on the court — two of whom she voted to approve. Apparently, the Supreme Court leaker did not only leak secret case developments with Politico. CNN reportedly has more details on the Supreme Court’s discussion on the upcoming Roe v. Wade decision. Chief Justice Roberts, who reportedly joined the liberal judges on the court in the upcoming decision, was trying to barter with the conservative judges in their negotiations. Roberts is reportedly willing to uphold the Mississippi law that would ban abortion at 15 weeks of pregnancy. HotAir reported — With an apparent 5-3 lineup set to overturn Roe based on Justice Samuel Alito’s draft majority opinion in Dobbs, Chief Justice...

On Tuesday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “MTP Daily,” Rep. Judy Chu (D-CA) stated that she hopes the leak of the Supreme Court’s draft opinion on Roe v. Wade “would ensure that some justices change their minds.” And that while she believes we need to know how the leak happened, “the information was important for us to know,” and “I am at least glad that this came to light.” Host Kristen Welker asked, “This is a draft decision, but do you think — and do you think part of the purpose of this leak was to try to build momentum to change...
