A treatment designed to attack a common virus that hides in our bodies could ease the decline caused by multiple sclerosis (MS), according to new trial results. Excitingly, it may even reverse some of the symptoms. A phase 1 clinical trial by the California-based immunotherapy company Atara Biotherapeutics confirms latent Epstein-Barr (EBV) infections are viable targets for treating MS in at least some patients, reinforcing a curious link between the virus and a deadly illness that affects millions around the world. Out of the trial's 24 volunteers, 20 showed signs of either improvement or at least a halt in their...

It’s not a shock to you or me that CNN+ is crashing and burning. We could have told the CNN bosses this idea wouldn’t work… and we could have told Chris Wallace that his move to CNN+ would be an epic disaster. The writing was on the wall. But the left lives in a clueless, out-of-touch bubble, especially the beltway liberals. They are on a whole ‘nother astral plane of cluelessness. And now, as we suspected, the bottom is already falling out, and it was just rolled out. Here come the job cuts… Axios is reporting that investment and projections...

A French journalist who returned from Ukraine after arriving with volunteer fighters told broadcaster CNews that Americans are directly “in charge” of the war on the ground. The assertion was made by Le Figaro senior international correspondent Georges Malbrunot. Malbrunot said he had accompanied French volunteer fighters, two of whom had previously fought against ISIS. “I had the surprise, and so did they, to discover that to be able to enter the Ukrainian army, well it’s the Americans who are in charge,” said Malbrunot. French reporter returning from Ukraine “Americans are directly in charge of the war on the ground.”...

A few years ago, a book titled “The Permission Society” explained how the country’s ruling class had turned our God-given liberties into privileges granted by government. Is it possible that the U.S. has gone even beyond and become a nation of the ruled? There’s more evidence to support that proposition than there is to refute it. We’re reminded of this by a set of new rules to live by proposed by the Biden White House. Last month, the Energy Department announced it was taking public comments on efficiency standards for residential air conditioners and pool heaters that are intended to...

I have been researching the effectiveness of pistols when they are fired as a defense against bears for several years. The research started as an attempt to find cases where pistols were ineffective. In October of 2016, a poster on freerepublic.com claimed (post 28 at the link) that there were numerous failures when people attempted to use pistols as a defensive tool against bears. The author knew there were several cases where the use of a pistol resulted in an effective defense. Because access to handguns, bear spray, knives, rifles, and shotguns all involve similar problems, only cases where a...

A former adviser to the FDA commissioner who continues to serve in an oversight role says the agency is ignoring its requirement to disclose clear safety and efficacy problems with the COVID-19 vaccines.David Gortler – a pharmacologist, pharmacist, and an FDA and health policy fellow at the Ethics and Public Policy Center – wrote in a column for the Federalist that the FDA, the Centers for Disease Control, Pfizer and Moderna have all known from the beginning about myocarditis and pericarditis risks from the mRNA vaccines. While there are also many other adverse events reported in the tracking system run by...

LONDON/SINGAPORE, (Reuters) - China's top offshore oil and gas producer CNOOC Ltd. is preparing to exit its operations in Britain, Canada and the United States, because of concerns in Beijing the assets could become subject to Western sanctions, industry sources said. Ties between China and the West have long been strained by trade and human rights issues and the tension has grown following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, which China has refused to condemn. CNOOC has launched a global portfolio review ahead of its planned public listing in the Shanghai stock exchange later this month that is aimed primarily at tapping...

Laws that require charities to disclose their finances and activities to the public endanger the lives of activists, Black Lives Matter co-founder Patrisse Cullors said at a recent event. The embattled activist, who is facing renewed criticism following reports BLM Global Network Foundation, while under her control, purchased a $6 million Los Angeles mansion, said she gets triggered whenever she hears the term IRS Form 990, the document charities are required to file to the public every year disclosing their financial activities. "It is such a trip now to hear the term '990,'" Cullors said Friday during an event at...

TUCSON, AZ — Snakes are starting to play a big role in COVID-19 research. Scientists from the University of Arizona have discovered an enzyme, similar to one found in rattlesnake venom, that could be driving COVID-19 deaths."We found evidence that there was an enzyme, a snake-like enzyme, in the blood of people who were in extraordinarily high levels,” says Dr. Floyd Chilton, the senior author of the study with the University of Arizona, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.Scientists have worked on this study for the past year and a half. It was recently published in the Journal of Clinical...

Another day, another chance to read the Jerusalem Post with my morning tea only to open page 3 and see the almost half page ad with four familiar faces of women who are being celebrated as “The Wonderful Women in the World,” in honor of Women’s Day. They are Greta Thunberg, Angela Merkel, Kamala Harris and Michelle Obama. It is their faces which are intended to sell English-speaking women to sign up for a variety of Hebrew magazine and digital services offered by the Jerusalem Post. My first thought was, “Who chose these four as the most inspiring, the most...

Comedian and HBO late-night host Bill Maher said Democrats have moved so far to the left by departing from basic common sense they will get their “ass kicked” in the mid-term this coming November. During an appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience, Maher observed Americans have a hunger for common sense and blasted the left for becoming “goofier” over the past decade by endorsing riots, pouring trillions of dollars into the pandemic economy, and saying men can get pregnant.

A report by the Labor Department that inflation in March rose by 8.5 percent compared to a year ago is setting off new alarm among Democrats that their Senate majority is in serious trouble. The bad news for Democrats is that inflation is projected to be a problem for the rest of this year, there’s not much they can do about it in the short term and it is souring Americans’ view of the economy.

As New Yorkers confront the latest in what seems like an unceasing stream of increasingly gruesome and brutal crimes (unfolding during the opening months of former NYPD Captain and newly inaugurated Mayor Eric Adams, who has promised to combat crime), law enforcement is facing up to the realization that the suspect (as is tragically common in mass shootings and other incidents of ‘terrorism’ extreme violence) had previously set off flags that probably should have warranted a closer look. It started yesterday with Newsweek reporting that the suspect (still at large) in the shooting – Frank James – had been investigated...

Sytnyk has headed NABU since its inception I met with Artem Sytnyk in 2015 as the new head of the Ukrainian ‘National Anti-Corruption Bureau’ (NABU) in Kyiv. At the time I was a national security columnist for The Washington Times. Sytnyk gave me a song and dance about fighting corruption in Ukraine. Sometime later, the New York Times published the infamous ‘black ledger’ allegedly showing ‘off-the-books’ payments to Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort. I called NABU the next morning and asked about the origin of the ‘black ledger’, that was reportedly released by NABU to the press. I was told...

The Federal Reserve’s two goals of price stability and maximum sustainable employment are known collectively as the “dual mandate.” Unfortunately, inflation is running away (bad) from employment gains (good). Sort of like “The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.” But just the Good and The Ugly combine to create the Misery Index. Here is the Atlanta Fed’s CORE flexible CPI YoY for March. The good news? Flexible Core CPI YoY was a little lower than the historic high reading in February. The bad news? We are still talking about 21.82%+ rise in prices (down from 23.56% in February). If I...

Who wants to live in a city like this?” a Sunset Park man asked a TV reporter Tuesday, then answered his own question: “Nobody wants to live like this.” Indeed. Nobody wants to live in the city New York is becoming. Another nail in the coffin — that’s what the Brooklyn subway attack was. Crime, crime nd more crime, and now this. Subway terror is the stuff of nightmares — and a banner day for the owners of moving companies. Helping people get out of Dodge already is a booming business, and nothing spreads the determination to escape New York...

On Friday, Gov. Glenn Youngkin signed into law a bill that will require schools to notify parents when their children are assigned books or other materials with “sexually explicit content.” Further, it requires school districts to adopt the state guidelines for enforcing this law when they are announced this summer.
