TOKYO -- Prices for architectural steel in Japan have risen to the highest levels in more than a decade as Russia's invasion of Ukraine disrupts supply chains for a wide range of building materials, including wood and cement. Tokyo Steel Manufacturing on Tuesday raised the price of H-beams used in building construction to the most in more than 13 years, 121,000 yen ($1,000) per ton. Kyoei Steel announced a 7% price hike for steel rebar. With steel proving too hot to handle, companies are starting to postpone increasingly costly capital investments, which could have knock-on effects on the broader economy...

President Biden wants credit for nominating the first Black woman to the Supreme Court. But here is the shameful irony: As a senator, Biden warned President George W. Bush that if he nominated the first Black woman to serve on the Supreme Court, he would filibuster and kill her nomination. The story begins in 2003, when Bush nominated Judge Janice Rogers Brown to serve on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. The D.C. Circuit is considered the country’s second-most important court, and has produced more Supreme Court justices than any other federal court. Brown was...

Belarus granted refugee status to Capitol riot defendant Evan Neumann, according to Belarusian state-run media, which circulated a photo of him apparently holding country documents. “US citizen Evan Newman received refugee status in Belarus. The document was handed to him in the Department of Citizenship and Migration of the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Brest Regional Executive Committee on March 22, 2022,” the Belarusian Telegraph Agency reported on Twitter. In an interview with the state-run outlet, he said he had “mixed feelings” but thanked Belarus, which “took care of me,” CNN reported. "I am upset to find myself in a...

“‘Rejoice and be glad, for your reward in heaven is great; for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you’” (Matthew 5:12). The Christian’s response to persecution and affliction should not be to retreat and hide. Jesus told us we are the “salt of the earth” and the “light of the world” (Matt. 5:13–14). For our salt to flavor the earth and our light to lighten the world, we must be active in the world. The gospel is not given to be hidden but to enlighten. “Let your light shine before men in such a way...

The Covid vaccine experiment should be ended immediately. The conclusion is that they are abysmal at preventing Covid-19. If they offer any actual protection, it’s negligible at best. And despite the CDC spreading rumors that the jabs prevent people from getting symptoms, going to the hospital, or dying. That isn’t true, either. The experiment has failed. On the same day that White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki tested positive and started experiencing mild symptoms, so too has Hillary Clinton had the same experience despite being triple-vaxxed.

First there was supply-chain disruption brought on by the coronavirus, then war in Ukraine further rocked commodity markets. The next bout of inflation via raw material prices will be brought on by resource nationalism. While the cost pressures brought on by the difficulty in moving goods in a world in lockdown are fading, other factors are more enduring. For instance, the post-Cold War spread of e-commerce allowed companies to treat the world as both factory floor and marketplace. Comparative advantage, strategic partnerships and the success of globalization led to growth and prosperity. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine jarred that dynamic and...

In Calvary Chapel San Jose v. Cody, (ND CA, March 18, 2022), two churches and their pastors sued the state of California and Santa Clara County over their COVID orders. As explained by the court: Beginning in March 2020, both the State and the County issued emergency orders that instituted capacity limits for certain types of facilities, restricted the practice of certain activities (including singing and chanting), and required individuals to wear masks in many situations.... [Plaintiffs alleged] that the emergency orders imposed harsher restrictions on churches than on other institutions. When Calvary Chapel admittedly defied those orders, Plaintiffs allege...

ROME — Italian Archbishop Bruno Forte said Sunday that Vladimir Putin’s religious defense of his war of aggression on Ukraine is a “sacrilegious act.” “Putin no longer manages to find arguments to excuse the disaster he has caused,” Archbishop Forte told the Italian daily La Stampa. “His was a sacrilegious act, an instrumentalization of the gospel in an attempt to justify himself.” The archbishop was referring to a statement made Friday evening by Russian President Vladimir Putin during a pro-war rally in Moscow, in which he cited Jesus as saying: “Greater love has no man than this: to lay down...

Pro-life prelate orders priests not to preach anti-homosexuality homiliesPORTSMOUTH, England (ChurchMilitant.com) - A prominent pro-life prelate is scapegoating a Black traditionalist friar for preaching a sermon against the LGBTQ+ indoctrination of children in Catholic schools. Bp. Philip Egan with the Marian Franciscans in PortsmouthIn a letter to his clergymen, bishop of Portsmouth Philip Egan denounced Fr. Rosario M. Ebanks for causing "great offense to many," after the friar's homily, preached at St. Mary's and St. Columba's Church, Gosport, triggered LGBTQ+ activists. Military losses have mounted, progress has slowed, and a blame game has begun among some Russian supporters of the war. In January, the head of a group of serving and retired Russian military officers declared that invading Ukraine would be “pointless and extremely dangerous.” It would kill thousands, he said, make Russians and Ukrainians enemies for life, risk a war with NATO and threaten “the existence of Russia itself as a state.” To many Russians, that seemed like a far-fetched scenario, since few imagined that an invasion of Ukraine was really possible. But two months later, as Russia’s advance stalls...

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Westminster confirmed last week to The Sunday Times that it referred complaints about Mother General Marilla, superior at the historic Tyburn Convent, to the Vatican. Woke corporate CEOs seem to think they know better than voters what’s best for the country. These titans are throwing their companies’ clout and cash behind activists pushing gender-fluidity lessons for kindergarteners and other extreme political causes. Expect this corporate activism to backfire. Corporations should be serving their customers, not trying to override the democratic process, like thousand-pound gorillas undoing what the electorate—including their own customers—wants. Walt Disney Co. CEO Bob Chapek declared his opposition Friday to a Florida state bill that bans instruction for children in grades K-3 about choosing their sexual orientation. The bill also bars teachers from...

Animal rescuers have issued a desperate plea to find a puppy bizarrely stolen in a late-night raid by a thief wearing a clown mask. An intruder, wearing the strange disguise, entered the RSCPA Dakabin shelter, north of Brisbane, on Saturday around 2am. They allegedly cut open the cage with an angle grinder and ran off with the puppy. Cashew, the four-month old female Staffordshire Bull Terrier, was due to be picked up that day by her new adopted family.

Microsoft Corporation legal documents obtained by Project Veritas show that after a U.S. District Court Judge rejected the DOJ’s argument to ignore Project Veritas’ “journalistic privileges,” the DOJ went behind the judge’s back to obtain an extension on two sealed non-disclosure orders from a magistrate judge to conceal the fact they already had unsupervised and unfettered access to privileged emails and contacts of eight Project Veritas journalists. • Judge Torres had ruled that prosecutors must operate under the supervision of a Special Master to ensure first amendment protections are upheld for Project Veritas journalists and their source material. • These...
