The governors of four states announced plans Monday to lift statewide mask requirements in schools a month or two from now, citing the rapid easing of COVID-19′s omicron surge. The decisions in Connecticut, Delaware, New Jersey and Oregon were announced as state and local governments grapple with which COVID-19 restrictions to jettison and which ones to keep in place. Even thinking of Governor DeSantis in Florida who said, his guiding principle throughout the pandemic wasn’t science, wasn’t the lives of Floridians, it was freedom.”

Great news, everyone! The surge in U.S. COVID-19 cases caused by the omicron variant has peaked and is rapidly sliding back down to pre-omicron levels.A chart posted by Our World in Data shows quite clearly that omicron is in the rearview mirror.
