The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) said it had voted unanimously to revoke authorisation for the company's American unit to operate in the US. FCC chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel said: "There has been mounting evidence - and with it, a growing concern - that Chinese state-owned carriers pose a real threat to the security of our telecommunications networks." China Unicom told the BBC its American unit "has a good record of...

Scientists have found that antibiotic use may increase the risk of developing colon cancer, potentially more so among younger people. The study compared antibiotic use and lifestyle factors of those who had colorectal cancer and those who didn’t. Antibiotic use was found to be associated with the development of colon cancer. The researchers also found antibiotic use was linked with an estimated 50 percent higher risk of colon cancer in people aged under 50, and an estimated 9 percent higher risk in those 50 and over. Sarah Perrott adds: "We found antibiotic exposure was associated with colon cancer among all...

Still stinging from their loss of Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s seat, Democrats aren’t about to let it happen again. Eighty-three-year-old Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer, a Bill Clinton appointee, is being forcibly retired by bloodthirsty partisans after nearly 28 years on the High Court. The timing is odd, though, in that Breyer doesn’t plan to step down until early summer, at the end of the current term. The lack of an official announcement yesterday from the Court itself is remarkable, and it tells us a great deal — namely, that Breyer himself wasn’t ready to make the announcement. In a faux...

The Omicron surge has forced businesses to again delay a date for a return to the office. And that means a delay to an inevitable showdown: between workers and managers over remote or office-based work. To a degree, every business will have by now adapted to the reality of a hybrid workplace and the fact some staff will remain home-based while others will come back to the office. Any business that cannot offer a hybrid workplace will face problems in recruitment during this worker shortage. And problems in developing in-house, the skills of managing a modern workforce.HOME MONITORSFor work at...

“Jesus’ Word Possesses Authority” (Luke 4:31-44) In last week’s Gospel, from the first half of Luke chapter 4, we heard Jesus say what he was anointed and sent to do. He quoted these words from the book of the prophet Isaiah: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” Now in this week’s Gospel, from...

Penzey's Spices, the Milwaukee-based company that held "Republicans are Racist Weekend" sale on Martin Luther King, Jr. Weekend earlier this month, is now dealing with a massive loss of customers and is now all but begging for new business. "After starting the year with All Republicans are Republicans and following up with Republicans are Racists we’ve set a nice little Boycott Penzeys! surge in motion," Penzey's CEO Bill Penzey said in an email to customers Friday. "It certainly wasn’t unexpected, but if it’s within your means, you picking up a small stack of Gift Cards would help." Penzey admitted that...

Sarah was in the fertilized egg business. She had several hundred young pullets (a young hen) and ten roosters to fertilize the eggs. She kept records and any rooster not performing went into the soup pot and was replaced. This took a lot of time, so she bought some tiny bells and attached them to her roosters. Each bell had a different tone, so she could tell from a distance which rooster was performing. Now, she could sit on the porch and fill out an efficiency report by just listening to the bells. Sarah's favorite rooster, old Butch, was a...

Directions Special equipment: a 3.5-quart air fryer Spray the basket of a 3.5-quart air fryer with cooking spray and set aside. Pat the chicken wings dry and sprinkle generously with salt. Set the air fryer to 360 degrees F and cook for 12 minutes, then flip the wings with tongs and cook for 12 minutes more. Flip the wings again, increase the heat to 390 degrees F and cook until the outsides are extra-crispy, about...

A large study involving almost 160,000 people has suggested that low testosterone in older men has a link to dementia and Alzheimer's disease. The researchers did not find a causal link, so the nature of this relationship is not known, but the paper is one of the sturdiest pieces of evidence that has highlighted this connection yet. The research was recently published in the journal Alzheimer’s and Dementia. Scientists led by the University of Western Australia in Perth sifted through data from the UK Biobank, an open-access biomedical database containing in-depth genetic and health information from half a million people...

During an appearance on FNC’s “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” Freedom Convoy 2022 spokesman Benjamin Dichter highlighted protests in Canada against vaccine mandates led by the nation’s trucking industry. Dichter warned this effort by Canada’s Trudeau government could be something coming to the United States. “It’s simple,” he explained. “I mean, we’ve seen Canada go from a country of Justin Trudeau’s promises of sunny ways into dark, authoritarian oppression and control. We want to do — we want two things. We want to get rid of the vaccine mandates, and the passports and the passports is — that’s really the concerning one....

Even with his own low approval numbers, President Joe Biden is leading both former President Donald Trump and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in a pair of direct match-ups long ahead of the 2024 election. Biden leads Trump by 10 percentage points – 43 to 33 – in a new Marquette Law School poll released Thursday. That poll has 16 percent backing 'someone else.' It comes even as Trump has been hammering Biden throughout his presidency, and stepping up his own activity with a rally last week in Arizona and another planned for Texas this coming Saturday. Biden's lead over DeSantis,...

Last fall, we learned that DC Comics’ new incarnation of Superman, Jon Kent (the son of Clark Kent and Lois Lane), would be less a superhero and more a social warrior, leaving the battling of supervillains to others while he tackled climate change. And in Superman: Son of Kal-El #5, it would be revealed he had a boyfriend. "The idea of replacing Clark Kent with another straight white savior felt like a missed opportunity,” Tom Taylor, the writer of the new comic, said. So instead, Taylor revealed that the new Superman “had to have new fights — real world problems...
