On Wednesday’s broadcast of CNN’s “AC360,” House Majority Whip Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC) stated that during the 2020 Democratic primaries, he urged then-candidate Joe Biden to raise the issue of nominating a black woman to the Supreme Court because “he had lost three primary campaigns in New Hampshire, Iowa, and Nevada and everybody was saying that his campaign was over” and Clyburn thought “the South Carolina primary could be a turning point in the campaign and I thought that one way to do that was to address this issue, and he did and addressed it many, many times since.”

Steve Bannon, ex-adviser to Donald Trump, has claimed that President Joe Biden will be impeached in November over his administration's handling of the U.S.-Mexico border. "You have stood down ICE and you've stood down Border Patrol, and guess what? That's the impeachment hearing I want to hear," Bannon, the former White House chief strategist under former President Donald Trump, said during a recent episode of his War Room: Pandemic podcast. SEATTLE — A long-time Seattle business owner is sounding off after he said his business has been "hit" by crime seven times in the past three months alone. This past weekend, Jay Ashberg, the owner of Seattle Shirt Company, said there were back-to-back burglaries at his store. The Seattle Shirt Company is located on the corner of First Avenue and Pike Street. Ashberg is still in shock of how far he believes Seattle has fallen. "This city is unrecognizable to what it was even five years ago, between the homeless and the lack of police, the whole defund the police,...

Mayor Lori Lightfoot got the go-ahead Wednesday to sign emergency contracts valued at up to $1 million without City Council approval, but only until the end of the year. Last month, Lightfoot’s most outspoken Council critics used a parliamentary maneuver to delay the vote. That prompted the mayor to sign an executive order giving herself expanded emergency contracting authority to deal with supply chain disruptions and inflationary price increases that threaten to leave the city without the water purification chemicals and other products needed to protect public safety. Budget Committee Chairman Pat Dowell (3rd) used her own parliamentary maneuver at...

Yesterday morning I received a bleak text message. It was from the chairman of a local business association near my home in the Auckland suburb of Newmarket and contained a photograph of my local train station, usually a busy commuter route full of hustle and bustle. It was completely devoid of life. That snapshot spoke a thousand words: as we surpass the two-year anniversary of the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, something close to normality has finally resumed for many across the globe. But here in our far-flung corner of the Southern Hemisphere, isolated behind our still-sealed border, we endlessly...

Lawyers for Prince Andrew have written to a US judge to demand a jury trial in a civil lawsuit brought by a woman who has accused him of sexual assault. Virginia Giuffre, 38, alleges that he sexually assaulted her when she was a teenager at the homes of Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell. The Duke of York has consistently denied all the allegations against him. A US lawyer called the latest legal filings a "PR move", saying Ms Giuffre had already asked for a jury trial. Lisa Bloom, who represents a number of Maxwell's and Epstein's accusers, said Prince Andrew's...

The Supreme Court agreed this week to hear a case brought by two Idaho residents who have fought the Environmental Protection Agency for years over a wetland on their property. This isn’t just a simple case of some long-suffering landowners, though; it’s one that is backed by industry interests. And with the Court in an ultra-conservative phase, the case could totally reshape how waterways across the U.S. are protected from pollution. “There’s a range of outcomes [to the case], all of which are bad,” said Dave Owen, a professor of environmental law at the University of Califonia, Hastings. The case...

Pfizer-Vatican connectionA mini-investigation by the National Catholic Register reveals private meetings in the Vatican of Pfizer's CEO, while the Secretary of State, Cardinal Parolin, singles out the Pfizer vaccine for exclusion from possible conscientious objection. This contradicts the famous Note of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. In a few days’ time, on 31 January, it will no longer be possible to enter the Vatican City State unless one has been vaccinated with all three doses (the only exception being for recently recovered patients). The Vatican State thus confirms itself as one of the most rigid in applying the...
