COVID is not something to be trivialized but news outlets are competing with one another to see who can gin COVID up the most and create the biggest panic. To wit: Covid-19 surge is 'unprecedented' (msn.com)The new year is starting with a massive influx of Covid-19 that's different from any other during this pandemic, doctors say. The title of this essay takes the form of a question that many people are sometimes forced to ask themselves, "Should I Evacuate?". I'll go on here but let me get right to the point and say that if you're in a situation where you're wondering if you need to evacuate then GO. It is time to get out. What if you're wrong? Well, then you can go back to wherever you were after you feel safe to do so. But don't be worried that you might be wrong when you're in the moment, just act appropriately for your safety...

Nearly 80 percent of deaths from type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) are associated with thrombosis, a condition that occurs when blood clots block a vein or artery. Traditionally, it's been thought that proteins released by damaged blood vessels may lead to inappropriate blood clotting, but a new study points to another trigger and a new mechanism that may underlie thrombosis. Beginning with samples from patients, investigators identified the new mechanism that activated PIEZO1, a major mechanosensory ion channel. In the lab, the team examined its effects and its potential as a therapeutic target for preventing thrombosis or identifying people at...

In Atlanta, Mr. Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris will lay a wreath at the crypt of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. before delivering a speech on voting rights, cementing the issue at the forefront of...

Among all the ways that COVID-19 affects our lives, the pandemic confronts us with a profound moral dilemma: How should we react to the deaths of the unvaccinated? On the one hand, a hallmark of civilized thought is the sense that every life is precious. On the other, those who have deliberately flouted sober medical advice by refusing a vaccine known to reduce the risk of serious disease from the virus, including the risk to others, and end up in the hospital or the grave can be viewed as receiving their just deserts. That’s even more true of those who...

If at first you don’t succeed, try again eight years later. Singer-songwriter Clay Aiken, best known for finishing second on “American Idol” nearly two decades ago, announced Monday that he would run for Congress as a Democrat for a second time after being soundly beaten in a 2014 House race. In a video announcing his candidacy that was posted on his Twitter account, Aiken told potential voters that “these days, my life looks a lot like yours than Justin Bieber’s, that I can promise you.” “But one thing that’s never changed for me is how much I love my home...

Elected in 2006, Perlmutter will be the 26th Democrat deciding not to seek reelection in the upcoming midterm elections. Although he only made the decision to retire this year, this is not the first time Perlmutter has considered leaving the House. In 2017 there was speculation that Perlmutter would retire from Congress after a brief but unsuccessful attempt to become the Democratic nominee for Colorado's governor. On Monday, Perlmutter explained that the reason for his departure this year is that...

Since so many people stopped listening to AOC’s voice, she shrewdly decided to print Democrat talking points on her hiney. It worked so well, the Democrat National Committee embraced the innovative tactic and looked for more people to wear their slogans. And, boy, did they hit the jackpot. In less than a day, Hillary “The Billboard” Clinton was born. “We can never say she’s useless again,” CNN’s Jake Tapper commented. “The amount of raw real estate we have to work with is astounding. Her left thigh alone lays out a comprehensive guide for implementing Cap-and-Trade. Don’t get me started on...

The LGBT movement, if it is successful in its campaign to persuade governments to restrict what is said about the same-sex agenda, eventually will target even the gospel of Jesus Christ as told in the Bible, warns a key Christian leader. “Let's just state the obvious. If the government can tell you it is illegal to teach biblical truth on the issue of human sexuality, the array of LGBT issues, understand two things. Number one, it won't stop with LGBT and understand, eventually it means the criminalization of whatever Christian speech is no longer politically attractive. And that eventually will...

NBC News wants you to believe there is “little scientific evidence” that biological males have an advantage in women’s sports. Don’t believe your lying eyes or any facts and buy into this, or you’re a bigot. A reporter would have to be pretty stupid to believe it or expect us to. If it were the case, wouldn’t transmen be dominating men’s sports? The women’s world record in the 100 meters is 10.49 seconds and has stood since 1988. The boys’ high school record is 10.0 seconds. Why is U of Penn student Lia Thomas crushing every swimming record? People aren’t...

The Supreme Court on Monday issued a revised transcript of oral arguments over a Biden administration vaccine rule that clarified a statement Justice Neil Gorsuch made about the number of annual flu deaths. The original, uncorrected transcript quotes Gorsuch as saying he believes the flu kills "hundreds of thousands of people every year." This erroneous transcription prompted legions of tweets and at least one media report that tut-tutted Gorsuch and pointed out the actual number of annual flu deaths, according to a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimate, is between 12,000 and 52,000 - well below the hundreds of thousands...
