Hundreds of prominent professors — including top names from CUNY, NYU, and Columbia — have signed a letter blasting the erosion of math rigor in grades K to 12. Arguing that curtailing advanced math programs puts American kids at a global disadvantage, the coalition called the movement “the height of irresponsibility.” A total of 746 math teachers and professors across the country signed the new missive, warning that enfeebled math curriculums would have dire consequences down the line. The teachers — including two CUNY professors, nine from Columbia University, and 13 from NYU — argued that kids need exposure to...

NEW YORK (AP) — A surprise year-end decree by New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio ordering virtually all businesses in his city to get workers vaccinated has sowed confusion and frustration — and could set off a mad holiday dash to force vaccine holdouts to choose between jabs or jobs. Tens of thousands of unvaccinated New Yorkers and their employers are now thrust into an unwelcome reckoning over the mandate, set to go into effect two days after Christmas. Francisco Marte, who employs 16 people at three bodegas across the Bronx, is in a precarious position: Force the shots...

On Sunday, a Facebook post from the Dallas Police Department went viral. It depicts a police dog, Ballentine, who is a member of the department's interdiction unit, operating out of Dallas' Love Field Airport. The caption praises Ballentine for sniffing out more than $100,000 in cash from a traveler's bag. What is left out of the description is what, if anything, the traveler did wrong. When contacted by Reason, Dallas police declined to give any specifics. The only comment provided was a statement that the squad "seized $106,829.00, from a 25-year-old female who is a resident of Chicago, IL., but...

Virginia Gov.-elect Glenn Youngkin (R) on Wednesday pledged to withdraw the state from a regional carbon market comprising 10 coastal and New England states. In a speech at the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce, Youngkin denounced the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) as a “carbon tax that is fully passed on to ratepayers” and said he would remove Virginia from the compact by executive order after taking office in January, according to a recording shared with The Hill. Youngkin specifically cited a request by the state’s primary electric utility, Dominion Energy, seeking to recover RGGI costs from customers.

You can support pre-K education and affordable child care and worry about climate change while understanding that policymakers need to get out of the way. =========================================================================== Should we ignore the costs of the "Build Back Better" bill and simply focus on the benefits? Wouldn't that be nice? Unfortunately, the most constructive criticisms of the legislation reveal why the magical thinking behind this monstrously expensive spending package will not improve American society. In urging us to focus less on costs, economist Alan Blinder asserts: "The House bill includes several real winners. Do you oppose universal pre-K education? You shouldn't; it works....

So, um, some people did something, and now CNN's Primetime slot is empty! Oh no! While we are extremely sad to see the brilliant and legendary Chris Cuomo go, there are a ton of great candidates out there who would do a great job filling his shoes! Here are the top ten possible replacements for Chris Cuomo: #1) Jussie Smollett: He has vast experience using fake news to gin up racial hatred. A perfect fit! #2) Ghislaine Maxwell: For her skill in protecting serial sex predators. #3) Luigi from Super Mario Brothers: The Primetime slot has been traditionally filled by...

CHICAGO—A Cook County jury is deliberating the case of actor Jussie Smollett, who is accused of lying to police about being attacked by two men using racist, antigay and pro-Trump language in the early morning hours of a frigid night nearly three years ago. Their task is sorting through hours of police work and weighing Mr. Smollett’s word against that of two brothers, who claim he enlisted them to stage the attack. The World Health Organization’s (WHO) Europe director on Tuesday said COVID-19 vaccine mandates are an “absolute last resort,” emphasizing that such a measure should only be enforced if all other strategies have been exhausted. “Mandates around vaccination are an absolute last resort and only applicable when all feasible options to improve vaccination uptake have been exhausted,” Hans Kluge told reporters, according to Reuters. He said the effectiveness of requiring vaccinations is “very context specific,” noting that public trust in authorities is an important factor that must be thought about. “What is acceptable in one society and community may not be...

Here are some of the Democrats most at risk if they vote for the bill. Mark Kelly — Arizona Kelly represents the same voters that Sinema does, and his head-to-head polling numbers are not promising. Early polls have Kelly leading between 4 and 9 points, never breaking above 44% of the vote. Arizona is considered a battleground state for 2022. Without Trump on the ticket, the winner of the crowded GOP primary has a great shot at victory. Kelly’s "aye" vote might be the nail in his coffin. Catherine Cortez Masto — Nevada Nevada is another state that Biden won...

We’re not hearing a lot about Nancy Pelosi’s January “9/11-style” committee to examine events of January 6, but rest assured, it’s still going on, and they are playing hardball. After all, they have domestic terrorism to combat! In fact, the chairman, Mississippi Rep. Bennie Thompson, made a shocking statement about how he intended to deal with a subpoenaed Trump supporter who worked at the Justice Department, Jeffrey Clark — someone who never entered the Capitol that day and has not been accused of any crime.“Our charge is to get to the facts,” he said on MSNBC. “Mr. Clark, through his...
