The Biden administration Thursday said it would rescind religious-freedom protections granted to child welfare agencies and require them to place children with LGBTQ families and to people of other faiths. The move will “further civil rights and equal opportunity for all people, irrespective of their sexual orientation, gender identity, and religion,” according to a press statement from the Department of Health and Human Services. The waivers — granted under President Trump to the states of Michigan, South Carolina, and Texas and to select child welfare agencies in those states — had dropped nondiscrimination requirements based on religious objections, HHS said.

Lawmakers are working to fix cryptocurrency tax reporting requirements included in the bipartisan infrastructure bill. The Infrastructure Investment And Jobs Act signed into law by President Joe Biden on Monday contains several digital asset reporting provisions opposed by the cryptocurrency industry and advocates of the technology, who view them as unworkable and stifling. The first provision creates new reporting requirements for any entity deemed to be a broker, which is defined as “any person who is responsible for regularly providing any service effectuating transfers of digital assets on behalf of another person.” This means “brokers” have to collect and report...

WELLINGTON, New Zealand — New Zealand’s bishops said they will ensure that people who have not been vaccinated against COVID-19 can safely attend Mass under a new system, while warning that unvaccinated priests will be limited in their ministry. Under the government’s orange and green traffic-light settings that will soon be in place, all parishes will be asked to provide Mass for people with the proof of vaccination required for unrestricted gatherings, the New Zealand Catholic Bishops’ Conference said in a Nov. 18 statement. Parishes should also provide the opportunity for people to attend a separate numbers-restricted Mass without providing...

WASHINGTON — A divided House moved toward passage Thursday of Democrats’ expansive social and environment bill as new cost estimates from Congress’ top fiscal analyst suggested that moderate lawmakers’ spending and deficit worries would be calmed, moving President Joe Biden closer to a badly needed victory. While significant Senate changes are likely due to cost-cutting demands by moderate Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., House passage would edge Biden closer to winning more of his domestic priorities at a time when his public approval is faltering badly. The 2,100-page bill would bolster child care assistance, create free preschool, curb seniors’ prescription drug...

Former President Donald Trump is endorsing Rep. Paul Gosar, one day after the Arizona Republican was censured by the House of Representatives for posting a violent cartoon video that depicted a character with his face killing one with New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s. Trump, in a statement, hailed Gosar as “a loyal supporter of our America First agenda” and “highly respected in Arizona,” and said he “has my Complete and Total Endorsement!” The statement made no mention of the House’s rare rebuke — just the fourth in nearly 40 years — which also stripped Gosar of his two committee assignments,...

And trust in Pope Francis is high among both Catholics who regularly practice the faith and those who do not. Those results are part of The Pillar’s Survey on Religious Attitudes and Practices, which aims to better understand the religious perspectives, identities, and perspectives of American adults....

The head of the Women’s Tennis Association cast doubt Wednesday on the veracity of an email attributed to Peng Shuai, the Chinese athlete who hasn’t been seen publicly since a post on her social media account made allegations of sexual assault against a former top official in the Chinese Communist Party. Association chairman Steve Simon said in a statement that the email, which was sent to his organization and published by a verified Twitter feed of China’s state-owned English-language satellite news channel, only raised his “concerns about her safety and whereabouts.”

A 20-minute video shot by a bespectacled young man who calls himself Guanguan appears to confirm reports of China’s vast network of concentration camps used to persecute Uyghurs and other Muslim minorities in Xinjiang. Guanguan says in the video that he traveled previously to China’s far western region in 2019 but went back in 2020 after reading an article from the U.S. news outlet BuzzFeed that indicated the locations of some of the camps there. “But due to the Chinese government’s restrictions, foreign journalists can hardly gain access to Xinjiang to conduct interviews,” he says on the video, which includes...

This timeless warfighter’s aphorism used to be the motto of many a US Military Brigade and Battalion prior to our woke transformation. I am not sure if this quote is currently allowed in our new military of pronouns, experimental vaccines, transgender surgery, and Critical Race Theory. The quote is often attributed to General George S Patton, however if you analyze it deeper, the statement goes back much further. It is a corollary of the Roman aphorism, “Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum” which translates to, “To secure peace, prepare for war”. Yet even the Roman Axiom is merely a corollary to Sun...
