Survey on Religious Attitudes and Practices

More than three-quarters of weekly Massgoing U.S. Catholics trust Catholic bishops to deal honestly and transparently with sex abuse in the Catholic Church. On the whole, Catholics who practice the faith with regularity are far more likely to report trusting both local and national leaders in the Church. And trust in Pope Francis is high among both Catholics who regularly practice the faith and those who do not.

Those results are part of The Pillar’s Survey on Religious Attitudes and Practices, which aims to better understand the religious perspectives, identities, and perspectives of American adults. We’re reporting the results of that survey this week in a series of special reports.

The same survey also found that older weekly Massgoers are more likely to believe in the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist than younger ones.

In part one of this series, The Pillar looked at America’s changing religious landscape. In part two, we look at what factors influence lifelong Catholic religious practice, and why people say they leave the Church. In part three, we took a look at what can be learned about religiously disaffiliated Americans. In part four, we looked at how the pandemic has reshaped parish life.

In this installment, we look at the attitudes among Catholics on some current issues in the Church’s life, including the Extraordinary Form of the Mass, the Synod on Synodality, and the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist.

The Jesuits, being the communist clowns they are, have cornered and destroyed the Catholic Church.

They have strayed so far from the Holy Scriptures to the point of being unrecognizable as a true symbol of Jesus Christ, His plan for mankind’s Salvation, and His Divine teachings.

They have not destroyed the Church; His Church will prevail.

Well, they certainly are tearing it to pieces.

Systematically, the Jesuits encouraged the abolishment of the Latin Mass. Their hierarchy also have communicated support for homosexual “civil unions,” and declared Satan is not real.

No Christian in his right mind can stand idly by in the face of such backwards ideology.

They are a rogue influence, especially with the rogue-in-chief being one of them. But their numbers are not high, and their influence with the laity minimal.

Well, absolute rebellion against the Jesuits and their backwards conduct is certainly in good order.

I sense the Divine power and fire of the Holy Spirit would certainly compel such a Righteous rebellion.

Oh, they have perpetrated much evil, but they cannot destroy His Church.

The Jesuits - the instigators and leaders of the counter-reformation.

I will just let that hang in the air ...

They have not destroyed the Church; His Church will prevail.

Because it isn’t the Roman one.

And trust in Pope Francis is high among both Catholics who regularly practice the faith and those who do not.

They must have only interviewed novus ordo Catholics: the modernists.

On the 14th of this month, I traveled a good distance, in the company of two of my sisters, to Harrisburg, PA, to attend Latin Mass.

In addition to being blessed with a deep religious experience, we were witness to the truly encouraging sight of seeing a church filled with young families.

I am a boomer, and these 2 sisters are older. We saw nobody in the church as old as we are! There were two people who appeared to be about 10 years younger than I, but all of the others were younger. And most were couples with 3, 4, or more children. It made my heart sing.

I wish that church was much closer to where I live in Maryland. Would go there every Sunday.
