The convicted murderer who sexually assaulted a Bronx nurse and bludgeoned her to death some 40 years ago is up for parole in September — but the victim’s family is fighting his potential release, saying it “would be a sin.” “It’s [been] 39 years and every day is a nightmare,” Phyllis Meliota, 87, said of her daughter Barbara Meliota’s murder at the hands of maintenance worker Anthony Doyle in 1982. “You can never forgive somebody that does an evil thing like that.” On a spring morning that May, 24-year-old Barbara had arrived for her 7 a.m. shift at Montefiore Hospital...

Bethesda’s Pete Hines and Xbox’s Aaron Greenberg chatted about some past stories, including one Hines shared about a woman going into labor during the Skyrim reveal at Quakecon 2011. She stayed to watch the full reveal then left to have her baby. One of the folks interviewing Hines joked that the couple might have named their kid Dovahkiin after the main character from Skyrim. This didn’t happen, but Hines did point out that someone did just that and Bethesda gave them free Bethesda games for life. “I also ask that no one name their baby Game Pass,” said Greenberg. Everyone...

A brave mother fought off a mountain lion — with her bare hands — as it savagely attacked her 5-year-old son outside their California home last week, authorities said Saturday. The unnamed woman punched the 65-pound wild animal and wrestled it away from her child in the front yard of the family’s house in Calabasas on Thursday, authorities said. The mountain lion had dragged the child “about 45 yards” across the front lawn in the wild attack, said Capt. Patrick Foy, a spokesman with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.

The public school system in America is in crisis — the worst crisis since the forced bussing and integration issues of the 1970s. Simply put, parents and students have lost faith in the school system to educate. They doubt whether the schools have the best interests of their students at heart. This poisonous doubt is having a tangible effect on enrollment. Despite the fact that public education is free, parents are sending their children to private schools with more reliable, more predictable policies. Enrollment in public schools nationwide declined by 3 percent last year. But it was the numbers for...

Taliban fighters have access to a large amount of biometric data of persons who helped the US and their NATO allies or worked with Indian intelligence, several media reports said. This crucial data landed into their hands courtesy of the US, who left the embassy amid a chaotic evacuation. These reports come only days after it was found that US officials in Afghanistan had "naively" handed over a "kill list" comprising names of American citizens, green card holders and Afghan allies to the Taliban so they could be allowed to enter the Taliban-controlled perimeter around the Hamid Karzai International Airport....

Rents (surge) are about to impact PCE and CPI. A surge in PPI is flowing into CPI. History will record that during the present time the most used word was “inflation” and the second most used word was “temporary.” What isn’t in this life transitory? But if inflation lasts three years because of a demand shift caused by a zero-carbon emissions goal consensus, then call it what you will, we at The Bear Traps will allocate capital accordingly. It reminds us of Marty Zweig not caring if the down stock market was a correction or a bear market. Either way,...

Afghans are arriving in the United States despite having “no documents whatsoever” after having been screened and approved by President Joe Biden’s federal agencies, CNN reported. Sources with knowledge of Biden’s massive refugee resettlement operation out of Afghanistan to the U.S. told CNN that many Afghans are arriving at Dulles International Airport in Virginia without having any paperwork on them. CNN reported: The approach from the administration has been “get as many people on the plane as you can, and we’ll sort out the (immigration visa) stuff later,” the source added, pointing to the rush to get people out of...

*snip* The unelected operators, bureaucrats within the Department of State (DoS), make U.S. foreign policy from within the executive branch. There is a pretense promoted by media that the executive branch, specifically the President of the United States, is controlling the internal mechanism of the U.S. State Department, but that’s a ruse. If it were true, the State Department would act like they had accountability to someone or something; they do not. Team Obama, those in power over the Democrat political mechanisms, are using the Biden crew as useful and disposable idiots. Because Biden was installed, not elected, the Chicago...

ransomnote: the video starts by interspersing clips of 'celebrities' adverstising the 'vaccine' with clips of young people having seizures. For example, Morgan Freeman says he trusts science and, "if you trust me, you'll get the vaccine." That clip if followed by a horrific video of the driver of a car layed back and sideways into the passenger seat having a seizure, while her little boy is seen on the phone with 911, and the arm of another child is glimpsed seated next to her. Mom is horrified and begging for help and when 911 asks, "Has your mother ever had...

Explanation: Are asteroids dangerous? Some are, but the likelihood of a dangerous asteroid striking the Earth during any given year is low. Because some past mass extinction events have been linked to asteroid impacts, however, humanity has made it a priority to find and catalog those asteroids that may one day affect life on Earth. Pictured here are the orbits of the over 1,000 known Potentially Hazardous Asteroids (PHAs). These documented tumbling boulders of rock and ice are over 140 meters across and will pass within 7.5 million kilometers of Earth -- about 20 times the distance to the Moon....

A few days ago, it appeared that someone had hacked their way into a few Free Republic accounts, then commenced to post ridiculous, often obscene posts. As a matter of caution, I logged out for a few days. However, since I have returned to the fray, I see articles by headline as before, but nothing shows any text as it usually does. Now, I'm under the Nancy Pelosi rules of expectation in that: I have to open the post to see what's in it. I can deal with it. At least I can read what's "Hot" with other posts, or...

That’s what most of those have been," Chief Medical Officer for the City of Houston Dr. David Persse said. The Houston Health Department said the boy who died in July was between the ages of 10 and...
