Russia is preparing its quadrennial Zapad 2021 military exercises along NATO’s eastern borders. The exercise is focused on potential armed conflicts with Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia. This extensive military drill in September will also involve troops from Belarus, one of Russia’s few remaining partners. Zapad 2021 is intended to demonstrate Russia’s military readiness and to simulate a clash with a neighboring state in which Moscow prevails. But with this year's exercises being conducted in the midst of the Russo-Ukrainian war and the social turmoil in Belarus, tensions are increased. Especially notable is the impact on the historic rivalry between...

While many other popular calibers, including 9mm, have risen in price during the great ammo shortage of 2021; .22 LR has increased but not nearly as significantly. It is now possible to find a box of 400 rounds (Browning HP 36 grains 1280 fps) for less than $140 – just about $0.03 a round according to a recent survey of offerings found on CheaperThanDirt.com. When compared to the 5.56 NATO or .223 cartridges for the AR-15, which can be well over a $1 per round, it is easy to see why some shooters are buying an AR chambered for .22...

Australian researchers have revealed how the bacterium Streptococcus pneumoniae (pneumococcus) obtains the essential nutrient, manganese, from our bodies, which could lead to better therapies to target what is a life-threatening, antibiotic-resistant pathogen. Pneumococcus is one of the world's deadliest organisms, responsible for more than one million deaths each year and is the leading infectious cause of mortality in children under five. It is the main cause of bacterial pneumonia, as well as a major cause of meningitis, sepsis and inner ear infections (otitis media). All organisms, including pathogens, need vitamins and minerals to survive. While researchers knew that manganese was...

What is the Shielding Approach? The shielding approach aims to reduce the number of severe COVID-19 cases by limiting contact between individuals at higher risk of developing severe disease (“high-risk”) and the general population (“low-risk”). With commercial traffic returning to pre-pandemic levels, the Pennsylvania Turnpike is increasing its spending on road improvements by nearly $200 million for the fiscal year that begins June 1. The turnpike commission Tuesday approved the capital spending increase to $660 million for the new year along with passing an operating budget of $417.3 million, about 2% lower than the current spending plan. Last year, the agency cut its capital spending from $606 million to $468 million as a result of losing more than $250 million in tolls due to reduced travel during the pandemic. Turnpike CEO Mark Compton said in...

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), often known as motor neurone disease, slowly kills off nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, causing paralysis and eventually death. Right now, there's no known cure – but we might have just gotten closer to finding one. In a new study, scientists were able to reverse one of the biological abnormalities that ALS introduces in cells. It's important to note this has only been achieved for one form of the disease so far, and only in lab samples, rather than in actual human beings. Even with those caveats, though, it's a significant step forward...

...”The variant has undeniably changed the terms of our engagement with this pandemic,” Kafoury said at a news conference Monday, where she was joined by public health officials, Portland Public Schools Superintendent Guadalupe Guerrero and leaders of local health care systems. “We know masks work,” she said. “They are tried and true, they are affordable and they’re an effective way to limit the spread of this virus and all its variants. Until enough of us are vaccinated all across Multnomah County, masks remain one of the best strategies to keep each other as safe as possible.”...

President Biden’s withdrawal from Afghanistan has left the country in shambles and the Taliban wasted no time in striking, now controlling large swaths of the country as the remaining Afghan forces give little resistance. The Taliban have begun releasing propaganda videos documenting their triumphs. ... Over 2,442 US troops dead and 20,666 wounded in the war since 2001, over $2.26 trillion spent, 20 years of fighting and what do we have to show for it? Our hostile elites got rich off the war contracts and bought themselves lavish palaces but the American people just got stuck with the bill and...

Greene said in the tweet that the Food and Drug Administration "should not approve the covid vaccines." "There are too many reports of infection & spread of #COVID19 among vaccinated people," Greene said. "These vaccines are failing and do not reduce the spread of the virus & neither do masks," she added. "Vaccine mandates & passports violate individual freedoms." The tweet was labeled by Twitter as "misleading." Users were not permitted to reply, share or like the post. Twitter has a five-strike policy on COVID-19 misinformation. The fourth strike is a seven-day account lock. Green was suspended from Twitter for...

The real feminist revolution has yet to happen.Does abortion harm women? The question is posed and answered in a brief filed by Advancing American Freedom (AAF) and other “friends of the Court” in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, the case in which the Supreme Court could revisit its rulings in Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey.Together, Roe and Casey hold that there is an (effectively unfettered) constitutional right to an abortion. AAF’s answer is that Roe and Casey have shown a “disregard for the value of human life” that has caused substantial harms to society, and...

On Monday’s broadcast of the Fox News Channel’s “Special Report,” Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm responded to a question on the Biden administration blocking the Keystone XL Pipeline and increasing regulations on domestic energy production while lifting sanctions on the Nord Stream 2 Pipeline by stating that the U.S. has to “go after” methane emissions and “pressure” Russia to do likewise.

Leave it to the Communist News Network to help a con artist con their own viewers. The progressive propagandists tried to pull at the heartstrings of their dwindling audience with an original story as well as a follow-up about Dasha Kelly and her three children. She had lost her job and they were facing eviction once the moratorium ended. It was an ideal story to help them show the side of the debate they wanted people to see. The segments framed Kelly seated with her three little girls and followed her as she showed her barren home after having to...
