The U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) released key data from June on Friday, and the news isn't good. The Federal Reserve's preferred inflation gauge showed the personal consumption expenditures (PCE) price index "increased 4.0 percent from one year ago, reflecting increases in both goods and services" as "energy prices increased 24.2 percent while food prices increased 0.9 percent." When calculated without food and energy, "the PCE price index for June increased 3.5 percent from one year ago" according to the BEA, and that jump is raising eyebrows as the index's biggest move since 1991.

State data shows there are only 13 intensive care unit beds available in the 11-county Austin region. That means more than 98% of all ICU beds in the area are currently occupied... On Thursday, more than 6,300 new confirmed cases were reported in the state. With the increased transmissibility of the delta variant, hospitals in the area say the surge in cases is “putting extraordinary pressure on [their] hospitals, emergency departments and healthcare professionals.”

So It’s wall-to-wall “Delta Variant” right now, and it’s ideally named to appeal to our Deviant Variant governing class. U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee was arrested at the U.S. Capitol on Thursday for engaging in civil disobedience in support of a federal voting rights bill. “Yes I engaged in civil disobedience today in front of the Hart Building in Washington, D.C., and I was arrested,” the Houston Democrat said in a video posted on Twitter. It was unclear what Jackson Lee was doing at the building to spur the arrest.

On Tuesday, the chairman of the Capitol riot committee, Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.), claimed that “the rioters came dangerously close to succeeding” in their effort to “upend American democracy.” That statement is, quite frankly, ludicrous, but there are serious threats to American representative democracy at work today, and we need to fight against them. While the Capitol riot was a national disgrace, it did not represent a serious threat to America’s constitutional system of government. Rioters broke through the strangely weak police lines and breached the Capitol, but the senators and congressmen evacuated safely. Vice President Mike Pence did not...

Whether or not a religious belief is sincerely held by an applicant or employee is rarely at issue in most religious discrimination lawsuits. With both the EEOC and DFEH guidance requiring employers to accommodate an employee who has a sincerely held religious belief that prevents an employee from receiving any of the COVID-19 vaccinations, the issue of what is a “sincerely held religious belief” has become more important in employment law. This is particularly true for those employers that decide to mandate the COVID-19 vaccination as a condition of employment or condition of receiving certain employment benefits.

A recent Gallup poll found that the number of Americans identifying as LGBTQ has risen sharply, up from 4.5 percent in 2017 to 5.6 percent in 2021, a 24% increase in just four years. Well, knock me over with a feather boa.Several lesbian feminists were troubled by the survey results, as the number of Americans identifying as lesbian remained roughly the same, while the number identifying as bisexual or transgender skyrocketed. They believe that many young people who would have identified as lesbian in days of yore are now coming out as nonbinary or transgender. Egad! The belief is that many...

Attorney Rogge Dunn, longtime labor attorney with the Rogge Dunn Group of Dallas, said it is perfectly legal for an employer to require employees to get a vaccine. “There are two exceptions," he said. "One is a sincerely held religious belief and two is if someone has a disability such that they would have an adverse reaction to a vaccine." Dunn said employers can fire someone for not getting the COVID shot if those exceptions aren’t met. He points to the case of more than 100 workers at Houston Methodist who sued over the hospital’s COVID vaccine mandate. “They lost,”...

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - Sarah Nafziger, M.D., vice president of UAB Hospital Clinical Services, said Thursday that Alabama now has the highest COVID positivity rate in the country. Nafziger said the reasons are the Delta variant and Alabama’s low vaccination rate. According to the Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH), Alabama’s percent positive rate is 21.5% as of July 29, 2021. The statewide percentage of Nucleic Acid Amplification Tests (NAATs) that were positive during the past seven days was 21.5. According to ADPH, 49,661 COVID-19 tests were performed in the past 7 days in Alabama. The percent positive number is...

A recent trend you might have noticed is states passing laws that make them Second Amendment sanctuaries. The idea behind these laws is that local law enforcement or governmental agencies won’t be allowed to enforce federal gun laws that are stricter than state and local laws. If local law enforcement does attempt to enforce such laws, they could face fines and penalties. But the more states declare themselves Second Amendment sanctuaries, the more they’re being challenged. Now it looks like the Department of Justice (“DOJ”) has decided to try to make Missouri an example for others. How It StartedOn...

Covenanter David Hackston was drawn and quartered at the Tolbooth on this date in 1680, for participating in the assassination of the hated (by Covenanters) Episcopalian Archbishop James Sharp a year before. This primate of a landowning family of centuries vintage was a Cameronian — that is, a follower of Richard Cameron. Cameronians were the most prominent radical faction of Covenanters — Scottish Presbyterians who insisted upon the terms of the Covenant made by Presbyterians to support the restoration of the Stuart monarchy after the beheading of King Charles I. At the time of that covenant, 1650, the executed king’s...

The CDC’s own math proves just how stupid and anti-science CDC director Dr. Rochelle Walensky’s (AKA Dr. Hot Mess) new mask mandates are for those of us who are vaccinated. These numbers also show how absurd the fascist left’s rolling vaccine mandates are. [cut] Listen, if you’re not willing to take a 0.0037 percent risk, I’m not going to laugh at you. It’s your life. Live it however you want. Put on ten masks. Bathe in bleach. Godspeed. But when the government uses percentages like 0.0037 and 0.00071 to push us around, that’s naked tyranny. When the media manufacture fear...

BRETT GIROIR: Anyone who’s not vaccinated and who did not have COVID previously, the Delta variant is so contagious that you’re going to get it. It is just a matter of time. If you have prior immunity you do have some protection, but more and more data are telling us that that protection is not so good against Delta. Remember, you can get the Flu every year. It’s not because your immunity isn’t good. It’s because the Flu changes and Delta is really a new strain that is different than everything we’ve seen. So, I am really concerned that natural...

When school facilities closed for in-person learning in early March 2020, the assumption was that the shutdown and pandemic would be temporary blips in the memory of our students. Some 16 months later, school facilities are finally preparing to re-open for in-person learning. We could go about business as usual, but after the devastation of the pandemic, and the increasingly widespread climate-change-linked weather disasters, it’s obvious we should not. Emerging from the crisis of COVID-19 gives us an opportunity to rethink our public schools, to simultaneously the structural inequalities that pervade the system, and prepare it for the climate emergency...

With hopes pinned on mass vaccination programs seeing an eventual end to the COVID-19 pandemic, citizens around the world are lining up for a jab. So far, efforts to curb the outbreak by spreading immunity this way seem to be working - but according to new research, right now might also be the worst time to let down our guard. A team of scientists led by researchers from the Institute of Science and Technology Austria calculated the risk of a vaccine-resistant strain emerging under different scenarios according to a modified model of SARS-CoV-2 transmission. Central to each scenario was the...
